Here's chapter 27 everybody.

Chapter 27: Nuclear Attack.

At the skies over the Osean state of North Osea, or South Belka as the local Belkans would called, an Osean Air Defense Force B-2 bomber squadron is approaching an alien City Destroyer, which is starting to settle over the city of Sudentor, located at the border within the two regions of North and South Belka at the foot of the Waldreich Mountains. Sudentor is a well known North Osean city because the former headquarters of the defunct weapons manufacturing company North Osea GrĂ¼nder Industries, formerly the South Belka Munitions Factory, is located there. It's also the same city where the legendary Razgriz Squadron fought against the forces of the Belkan Grey Men terrorist group, with the help of an joint Osean-Yuktobanian force, to destroy the SOLG control system near the end of the Circum-Pacific War 10 years ago, and it's the same city that the legendary mercenary Galm Team were supposed to go on the very day the Belkans drop seven nuclear weapons on their own soil during the Belkan War 25 years ago. Anyway, the B-2s are airborne and are approaching the City Destroyer where they are planning to destroy the alien ship with a nuclear strike. Prior to this, Wilford had informed Osea's allies and former adversaries of his decision in order to prevent other nuclear states from firing their missiles in the rapidly losing battle until the results of the attack were clear. The bombers are communicating with Area 95.

"Command, this is Retel Op. The squadron is in the air. We are on station and awaiting instructions." the bomber pilot said.

"Roger... Break formation, head to target." the radar officer ordered.

With that, the bombers break formation.

"Sir...they're breaking formation." the radar officer informed.

"Mr. President, we're initiating sequence code." Shepherd said.

"Verification, Alpha Zulu 6-8-9er." the radar officer said.

"Which city will be reached first?" Wilford asked.

"Uh...Sudentor, North Osea." the second radar officer replied.

"ETA six minutes and counting down." the first radar officer said.

"Sudentor." Wilford muttered.

"The major cities have been deserted. Civilian casualties should be down to a minimum." Shepherd said.

Meanwhile, near the outskirts of Sudentor, an Osean army recon tank is positioning itself so that it can give intel and information to Area 95.

"Command, this is Neighborhood Watch. We are in position. Tracking monitors are locked on. We are going to visual recon." the tank commander said.

"Roger that, TCW." the second tank commander said on the comlink.

Back at Area 95, Major Lincoln is helping with the operation.

"They have confirmation." Lincoln said.

"Launch code confirmed. Alpha Zulu 6-8-9er. Standing by." the second radar officer said to the bomber squadron leader as the bombers are approaching the target.

"Laser targeting. Locked on." the bomber pilot said.

"We're locked on, sir. Do you wish to deploy?" the radar officer asked.

Wilford didn't reply. He continues to watch the screen as the bomber is approaching the outskirts of Sudentor.

"Mr. President, if you wish to deploy, the time is now." Shepherd said.

Wilford however continued to be silent.

"Mr. President." Hurley said.

"Deploy." Wilford ordered.

"That's a go. Alpha Zulu 6-8-9er, that's a go." the radar officer said.

Back in Sudentor, the bomber pilot has heard the order to go ahead and deploy the nuclear weapon.

"Here we go." the bomber pilot said.

With that, the bomber fires a nuclear missile. The missile fires and heads towards the City Destroyer as the bomber turns around to avoid getting caught in the blast.

"Bird's away." Lincoln said.

Meanwhile, the operators in the recon tank have a visual on the nuclear missile.

"We have visual confirmation of the missile. It's on target...approaching..." the tank commander said.

"May our children forgive us." Wilford said solemnly.

"5 seconds to impact. 3...2...1..." the tank commander said.

At that moment, the missile strikes the ship, setting off a massive nuclear explosion, lighting the night sky and destroying the city of Sudentor in the process. Everyone sees the explosion on their monitors.

"Oh, yeah, it's a hit!" Hurley said as Wilford just gave a sigh.

Meanwhile, at the tank, the operators are trying to make sure they lock the tank down for they don't want to get thrown into the air by the shockwave.

"Lock it down! I said lock it down!" an tank operator said.

Back at Area 95, Wilford wants to know if the nuclear strike destroyed the ship.

"Can I confirm that the target was destroyed?" Wilford asked.

"Get the tank commander on the line. I want confirmation that the target was destroyed." the radar officer ordered.

"Yes Arrow Alpha 9er 7-2-3, can you read?" the radar officer said, trying to contact the tank but gets static. "Repeat, Commander, you're breaking up."

"We have lost visual." the tank commander said.

"Roger that. We're looking for confirmation." the radar officer said.

The tank commander looks through his scope to see Sudentor in ruins, but no ship. The scopes camera is monitored back at Area 95.

"We got the bastards." Hurley said. "Good job, everyone. Congratulations."

Some Osean officers cheered while others, including Wilford, Lincoln, and Shepherd just stood in silence while the radar officer continued to contact the tank.

"Commander, do you have visual? I repeat, we need visual confirmation. Has the target been destroyed?" the radar officer asked.

Back at the tank, the tank commander looks through his scope again. This time, he gets a surprise. The City Destroyer is still intact and moving.

"Negative. Target remains. I repeat...target remains." the tank commander said.

Everyone stood in silence as they couldn't believe it. Nuclear weapons can't even get through the alien's defensive shields and the mission is a failure.

"Call the other planes back." Wilford ordered.

"One of the bombers might have more luck. Sir, we shouldn't just give up on this!" Hurley argued.

"I said call them back!" Wilford ordered.

"Abort." Shepherd ordered.

"All right, abort mission. Issue the abort codes right away. This is an abort. Full abort!" the radar officer ordered.

With that, the surviving Osean government contacts all other surviving governments worldwide to inform them of their failed mission and to not conduct any planned nuclear strikes of their own.

And that's the end of the chapter. Well, nukes once again used in what was once Belka. I guess you can say Osea nuked themselves since it's useless against the alien's shields. So, now what? Anyway, what happens when Laila and the first lady is finally rescued? Find out next time n the next chapter. Please review. :)
