There is no doubt that Isabelle is the mother hen of the group. She fussed over them, helped with chores, laid down the rules and sometimes, was a shoulder to lean on.
She also laid down the law, whatever she says goes and whenever something was done wrong, they have to answer to her. Such as the situation now.
There was a missing bottle of 20 year old whiskey that was only drunk at special occasions. So, the two rodents were sitting on opposite ends of a table, while Isabelle sat in the middle.
"So, do you guys know anything about this?"
They both shook their heads, with Isabelle watching them.
"Is there anything I need to know?" she asked.
"Well, actually…" Ratigan said, getting her attention, "Basil has used up all of that mint hot chocolate you love so much."
"HE'S LYING!"
Ratigan and Isabelle both jumped at the outburst and then looked at Basil in surprise, seeing the normally composed detective flustered.
"Uh, guys."
They all looked to the side and saw Lily at the doorway.
"Izzy, I took the liquor. I was celebrating with my publisher."
Isabelle let out a huff of indignation.
"You know I would have liked to know that before I started this inquest."
AN: Here is Mama Isabelle laying down the law, and don't the boys know it. The part with Basil is actually a scene from Everybody Loves Raymond with Robert screaming "He's Lying!". It's really funny to imagine Basil yelling like that.
