"In other news, the trial of Jonathan Cooper for the murder of Meredith Harper-Castle began. Let's take a look at the coverage." The newscaster said.
"Detective, do you have a comment?" The reporter asked.
"Yah," Kate replied, " get this media circus out of here; this is a trial, not the Ball dropping in Times Square on New Year's Eve. Give us some privacy."
"But…." The reporter started.
"I don't care that he's a famous writer; today he's just a man asking for justice. Now, get out of here before we have you arrested." Kate strode up the steps and disappeared inside the courthouse.
"And now we will proceed into the courtroom."
"You ripped my family apart like a raccoon looking for garbage at a campsite. I wonder how you'd feel if someone took your wife away from you and your child. Did you ever think of that? A little boy or girl growing up without his or her mother is a crime that should never take place. I hope you can live with what you've done, you no good SOB! That's probably why you did this to me, to my little girl. You had an unhappy childhood and wanted to cause another family some grief. I hope you rot in the level of Hell reserved for molesters and people who talk at the movie theater." Johanna turned off the television and confronted her daughter.
" "Katherine Houghton Beckett, I cannot believe you said that to the press!" Johanna scolded.
"Mom, I had to say something or they wouldn't leave things alone, but they got in there anyway. Seriously, would you want someone you're defending to be the subject of a media field day?" Kate slid onto the kitchen chair.
"I know, sweetie, and I told you so. And you're not a lawyer."
"I was making a point. And no, I am not in love with him. His books maybe, but not him. "
"Oh, you're falling for him alright." Her sister walked into the kitchen.
"Lisa, what are you doing here?" Kate got up and hugged her.
"I had vacation. Don't change the subject, Katie. You've been in love with him since you picked up In a Hail of Bullets."
"For the sake of argument, what if I am? His wife just died, and the media would be all over it. And then I couldn't go undercover when I need to. "
"Excuses." Lisa said. "You know I can read you like one of his books."
"He's mystery novelist, not a romance author. "
"Call him!"

"Admit it, darling, you love her." Martha said.
"Mother," Rick said, "Meredith's barely in the ground, just avenged and you're suggesting…"
"Don't deny how you feel, kiddo. The press might have a field day, but I know you two will end up together some day. Why not make it sooner rather than later. Think of Alexis. She needs a mother. And you were about to get divorced soon anyway. Her car's in her parents' driveway; go over and talk to her. "
"But…."
"She wouldn't have helped you so much if she didn't feel the same way about you as you feel about her. Don't hide behind your typewriter. Go over there!"
He walked across the yard and knocked on the back door."
"Hi." He said.
"Hi," Kate responded.
"Can I come in?" He asked.
"Sure." She led him inside and up the stairs to her old bedroom. "We'll have a little more privacy here." She said.
