Kate moseyed back to her parents' house and let herself in. Johanna noticed the dreamy look in her daughter's eyes.

"You look happy tonight." Johanna commented.

"Did you two?" Johanna started.

"MOM! No. We're waiting… for our wedding night."

"He proposed? Let me see the ring." Kate brought her hand closer.

"He has really good taste. And I told you so! Right from the beginning."

"What's all this racket about?" Jim entered the room.

"Should we tell him?" Johanna asked Kate.

"I think he can figure it out. Just give him a minute." Kate replied and softly hummed the The Wedding March and casually brought her left hand into sight.

"He gave you jewelry?" Jim asked.

"Yes…." Kate encouraged.

"Fourth finger…. He proposed. I already knew. He came over a few days ago to ask my permission. A bit old fashioned, but I appreciated it. And I couldn't think of anyone better for you." He hugged her.

"You knew and you didn't tell me?" Johanna accused.

"I know you can't keep that kind of secret, Jo. "

As soon as she returned to her apartment, Kate picked up the phone and dialed. "Lanie," she began, "You will never guess what happened tonight."

"Dish, girl, dish!" Lanie urged.

"Well, you know Alexis keeps calling me Mama….."

"Yes."

"And we've been getting closer."

"Oh my llama, you're engaged. Congrats, girl!"

"So, what about you and Javi? I've seen how you two watch each other. "

"Oh, nothing. We just started dating, that's all. Now, enough about that how did it happen?"

"We had a romantic dinner, then he took me to the swing set, you know the one we always take Alexis to, and he proposed. " She heard silence on the other end of the call. "Lanie?"

"There's a ton of things we have to do, get your dress, book everything….."

"Lanie, slow down; it just happened tonight. And I do have a question to ask you."

"Shoot."

"Really? You had to say that? Anyway, will you be my maid of honor?"

"YES!" She squealed.

"So, how'd it go?" Martha asked.

"She said yes. "

"Congratulations, kiddo. I think there's someone else we need to tell."

Rick climbed the stairs and went into Alexis' bedroom. The little girl woke up and looked at him.

"You're one lucky kid," he said, " Mama's staying for good."

"Mama?" She asked.

"No, Mama had to stay with Grandma and Grandpa. "

"Mama." She said and fell back asleep.
