Sirius dropped to his knees. The colour drained off his face. He couldn't believe what he saw. His daughter couldn't be dead! She was just six! "No, no, no, no!" Sirius whispered. He took Liana cold hand and cradled her upper body in his arms. Tears threatened to spill from his eyes. He couldn't deal with this alone. He felt numb. He knew he had to tell Remus. "Expecto Patronum," he muttered. It didn't work. He tried and tried for a few minutes before he could conjured a corporeal Patronus that could deliver his message. He spoke in whisper, "Rem, I need you here. Please come soon. Don't tell Harry or the kids." The Patronus trotted away and disappeared.
Remus was at Grimmauld Place, just reading a book while Harry and the Weasley kids hung out in Harry's temporary room.
Suddenly, Sirius's Patronus trotted in and spoke in his voice, "Rem, I need you here. Please come soon. Don't tell Harry or the kids." Remus immediately feared the worst. He Dissaparated directly to the address Sirius had given him the day before.
Remus just Apparated in and ran inside the house to see Sirius on his knees, crying, with a pale, limp form of Liana cradling in his arms. His voice choked, "S-Siri..." he managed to say. He dropped down and side hugged his lover. Sirius sobbed, he was heartbroken. "She was six, Rem. Six!" He blurted, his voice cracking.
Remus tucked a lock of Sirius's hair behind his ear and allowed Sirius to bury his face in Remus's chest. "This is all my fault. I thought she would be safe," Sirius said in a very muffled voice. "No it isn't. They were Muggles. Why would you suspect anything happening here?" Remus comforted.
"I think Sirius that we should take L-Liana to Grimmauld Place. This place is not safe anymore." Sirius nodded shakily. He stood up with his daughter in his arms. Remus put his arm around Sirius's shoulders and they Dissaparated to the second step of Grimmauld Place. The duo quietly went inside not wanting to alert the teenagers.
They went into Sirius's room and laid the unbreathing body of the child on the bed. Sirius sat next to Liana and held her hand gently, letting his tears roll down. "We need to tell Harry," Remus said quietly. "C-can you do it, M-Moony? I d-don't think I can manage," said Sirius, his voice cracking in grief. Remus nodded, hugging Sirius tightly and planting a brief kiss on his forehead.
Remus headed towards Harry's room. Just as he reached there, he heard joyful laughs. He was reluctant for a second to steal away Harry's happiness which was very rare in these past few weeks. But he knew he had to do this. He knocked on the door before opening it quietly. No one, except for Harry, noticed he was in the room. "Remus..." he said in concern at the tear streaked face of his former professor. "Harry, we need to talk about something, please come outside," pleaded Remus. Harry wheeled outside effortlessly and closed the door behind him.
'What is is, Remus? What happened?" Harry asked frantically. "I-It's Liana. There was a Death Eater att-" Remus was interrupted. "No, Remus, please tell me it's not what I think it is!" Harry said hysterically, if he wouldn't have been in the wheelchair already, he would have definitely dropped to his knees. Remus knelt down, "I'm sorry, Harry. Sirius is with her right now...I think he'd like it if you go there." Harry bent forward and hugged Remus, forgetting his dignity. He cried in the shoulders of his honorary Godfather. He had to be strong for Sirius so he let it out. Remus just hugged back rubbing circles around Harry's back and murmuring words of comfort.
Ron and Hermione were worried when they heard Harry's hysterical sobs. They knew it wasn't good news. They wanted so badly to go out there and just be there for their best friend but they were aware that they shouldn't. It was definitely family buisness.
Meanwhile outside, Harry had started choking. "Harry!" Remus whispered. "Harry, it's OK. It will better...just breathe. In and out and in and out."
Harry's upper half shook with sobs. "Harry, it's OK," Remus reassured. "Why her? She was...six. She couldn't even touch... the robe of a Death Eater, let alone kill them. She was no... asset to the war!" Harry gasped, his voice still a little choked. "I know Harry, believe me, I do!" Remus said, with tears now running down his cheeks. "I think Sirius would like you to be by his side..." Harry nodded, quietly wheeling himself to Sirius's room.
Sirius didn't seem to notice Harry entering the room. Harry positioned his wheelchair beside Sirius, you was on the bed. They were both on almost the same level. Harry gently squeezed his Godfather's left hand. Sirius didn't look up but he let Harry hold his hand. Silent tears escaped Harry's eyes...this is all my fault. They were attacked because Liana is, was, my sister! Harry thought.
Suddenly, Harry whispered, "Sirius, I'm so so sorry. This is all my fault." Sirius actually looked up when Harry said this. His grey, usually mischievous eyes were dark and hollow and red. "No it isn't," Sirius said flatly, trying to sound comforting, but he couldn't do it.
Harry's hand moved from Sirius's wrist to his forearm. Sirius did something very unexpected. He hugged Harry tightly and cried hysterically, overwhelmingly, on his godson's shoulder. "I can't live without her or you, Harry! I need both of my kids!" He repeated over and over again.
Harry was touched that he was Sirius's 'kid'. He simply thought that letting Sirius cry and seek comfort on his shoulder was only fair as he had comforted Harry so many times. Harry felt so lucky. He rubbed gentle circles on his Sirius's back as Sirius did for him. "We'll be OK...My mum and dad will take care of her, won't they?" Harry murmured gently.
Just then, Remus quietly entered the room. He saw both of them comforting each other. Remus leaned his head onto the door frame, watching them fondly with a sad smile. He moved towards the bed after a few minutes. He rubbed Sirius's back. "I think he's asleep," Harry whispered. Remus picked Sirius up and laid him down on the other side of the bed.
Harry rolled forward grabbing Liana's hand gently, cradling in in his own. Remus came over and side hugged Harry, letting him bury his face in Remus's chest...Harry just couldn't enough, right? The stone, the chamber, Remus himself too in his wolf form, the Triwizard in which he saw a friend die before his eyes, Umbridge, his accident, so much of suffering for a mere boy! And now, Liana. He had to tell Harry's friends about what happened. He informed Harry about this.
Just as he was about to leave, Harry called, "No, wait! I have to be the one to tell them." Remus was unsure, " a'e you sure?" Harry nodded solemnly. He wheeled himself, effortlessly, to his room. He quietly entered. "Harry? Is everything alright? Are you alright?" Ron asked. Harry shook his head but it seemed that only Fred and George noticed. There expression was grim that it could scare the shit out of people who had only seem them as pranksters. "Ron! Can't you see? He was crying. What is it, Harry?" Hermione asked. Ginny's voice was the gentlest. She said, "Harry, take your time. We're here for you," she took Harry's hand in her own.
Harry took a deep breath and said, "There was an attack. L-Liana was m-mu-murdered." Ginny froze in shock. She and Lianna had been very close. Hermione was staring at Harry in disbelief. Fred, George and Ron had all turned away, probably to not let the others know they were crying. Fred and George wouldn't have anyone to demonstrate their pranks to...
Hermione and Ginny hugged Harry tightly as he broke down once again.
