"Buried Secrets 3: Enter the Shadows"

Chapter 8

Davina sat on the couch as everyone ran around her yelling, cussing, and arguing.

Three days ago Bella had failed to return to Marcel's. Marcel had sent out several vampires; Daywalkers and Nightwalkers, but there was nothing. It was as if she had vanished into thin air. Marcel had threatened the witches, but they didn't know anything. Cami had searched all of Davina's paintings and drawings for some clue as to who the dark figure was, but again it was to no avail.

Davina sat as she watched everyone run around, having no idea what to do or where to go next, but she did.

Unnoticed Davina got up and headed for the stairs. She climbed them, one by one, each time her feet grew heavier. She finally made it to the attic and opened the door. The light from the hall illuminated the casket and she quickly closed the door before locking it. She used her powers to open the casket before she looked down into it.

"Klaus," Davina said, "I'm Bella's cousin Davina."

Klaus looked at her as she raised her hand to touch his forehead and said a few words.

"I can hear your thoughts," Davina explained as she pulled her hand back.

"What is going on downstairs?" he asked.

"Bella's been taken," Davina replied.

"What?" Klaus asked in a panic.

"Why do you care?" Davina asked, "You were always a monster to her."

"Who took her?" Klaus asked.

"We don't know," Davina replied. "I thought it might be one of your hybrids."

"I wouldn't hurt her." Klaus replied.

"You can't anymore. You're trapped here," Davina said, "Are you trying to tell me you care about her?"

"I made mistakes," Klaus said.

"She will never forgive you," Davina replied.

"You have to find her," Klaus said, "Please."

"I can't," Davina said.

Davina closed her eyes and focused on delving into Klaus' mind. In it, she saw everything he had ever done or felt. She came to memories of Bella as a young girl and became angered. She pushed further and came to where Bella had placed Klaus into the coffin. At first he was angry, but then when he saw her in Romania something in Klaus changed. Davina watched as Klaus' heart seemed to change as he watched Bella from the casket. As she spoke to him, revealing all of what she felt. She watched as he reflected upon his actions and now his fear was engulfing him. Bella was missing and he feared for her.

Davina opened her eyes and looked at him, "Don't make me regret this," Davina warned, "If you try to hurt her, I will destroy you."

Davina removed her hand and began to chant.

.*.*.*.*.*.

"You're telling me that I run this city, I have eyes everywhere and no one knows or saw what happened to her?" Marcel yelled. "Are you kidding me?"

"Some of the Nightwalkers have disappeared," Diego said. "We think they might have been the ones that helped take her."

"My own guys," Marcel said, "Betrayed me!" he said and threw a table across the room.

"Marcel stop it," Cami said, "Nothing is going to be solved by throwing shit."

Marcel took a deep breath, "Did Kieran know anything?" he asked.

"He's looking through the old books, but nothing yet." Cami replied.

"Klaus is going to kill me," Marcel said, "I promised to look after her."

"Isabella tends to do as she likes," Klaus' voice said, startling all of them.

Everyone turned their attention towards the staircase as Klaus and Davina descended.

"I can't blame you for that," Klaus continued.

"Davina," Cami tensed, "What did you do?"

"He can help us find her." Davina said, "He won't hurt her."

"He is a master manipulator," Cami snapped.

"Yes and while my daughter has kept me prisoner for these last few months, I have had the chance to reflect." Klaus said, "I have made many mistakes and like she said, I have no intention of harming my own daughter."

"I don't believe you." Cami said.

"I don't expect anyone to believe, but at least believe that as of right now, getting Bella back is my foremost concern." Klaus replied calmly.

"What do you need from us?" Marcel asked.

"Are you kidding me?" Cami asked, "We're just going to let him take over?"

"Cami I get it, you have Bella's back, but right now we need him to get her back." Marcel said and looked at Klaus.

"Your men, Diego and Thierry. Send Diego to my brothers. Thierry, you will go and find the Salvatore brothers, my sister Rebekah, Elena, the Bennett witch and the rest of the Mystic Falls misfit gang. Bring everyone here." Klaus said, "Bella hasn't left the city. This I know. I can still sense her, but she is in trouble."

"You heard him," Marcel ordered. "Go."

"One more thing," Klaus said as Diego and Thierry headed for the door. "Tell them Marcel sent you, make no mention of me."

The two nodded and headed out.

"Davina," Klaus turned to look at her, "Show me these paintings of yours."

.*.*.*.*.*.

"Still looking for our brother and niece?" Kol asked after walking into the house.

The living room was a mess with a huge pin board in the middle with several notes and lines drawn on it.

"You won't find them," Kol said, "You're going to drive yourself insane, just like Mary did."

"Did you come to gloat brother?" Elijah asked, "Tell me how wonderful life is being free of Niklaus?"

"I came to check on our sister." Kol replied simply.

"She is fine," Elijah said.

"When are you going to give up Elijah and live your life?" Kol asked annoyed.

Before Elijah could answer, a knock at the door interrupted him.

"Come in," Elijah yelled. "It's probably just the sheriff."

A young man walked in and both brothers looked at him strangely.

"Are you Elijah and Kol?" Diego asked.

"Depends," Elijah said.

"Excuse my brother, he's a bit tense and yes, we are." Kol said, "Who are you?"

"I'm a friend of Marcel's." Diego said, "My name is Diego."

"What does Marcel want?" Elijah snapped. "I don't have time to clean up his messes."

"Don't mind him," Kol rolled his eyes. "How is Marcel?"

"Not good," Diego said, "He needs you to come to New Orleans."

"Why?" Elijah asked.

"It's about Bella," Diego said solemnly.

"Is she there?" Elijah asked earnestly.

"Not another word," Kol warned, "Elijah you are not letting Klaus out."

"She's been taken," Diego interrupted them.

"Well there goes my life of relaxation," Kol sighed. "What exactly happened?"

.*.*.*.*.*.

"Nothing," Bonnie slammed the books onto the table. "Angela is out of town and out of cell service. And this is bullshit."

"Elena?" Caroline asked.

Elena shook her head, "I can't get anything and I've tried." She replied.

Stefan looked over to Damon and saw him staring into the fire.

"Damon?" he asked as he walked over.

"The hunters, Bella disappearing, it's all too much of a coincidence." Damon said quietly.

"Damon not everything is connected." Rebekah interrupted as she joined them.

"It's a gut feeling and I always trust my gut." Damon said.

"Is that what you did with Katherine?" Rebekah quipped.

"Excuse me," a man said from the entry way.

"Who are you?" Jeremy asked tensing.

"My name is Thierry," Thierry walked in further, "Is Rebekah here?"

"I am," Rebekah stepped forward.

"I was sent by Marcel to bring you and everyone here back to New Orleans." Thierry said.

"Marcel?" Rebekah asked.

"Yes," Thierry said, "He needs your help."

"We are a little busy here so sorry no can do." Damon stated.

"It's about Bella," Thierry said and everyone tensed, "She's been taken."

"Where?" Damon asked after blurring to him.

"We don't know which is why he sent me." Thierry said.

"Why would this Marcel care about Bella?" Stefan asked skeptically.

"Marcel was changed by Klaus." Rebekah spoke up. "He lied to Elijah about Bella being there didn't he?"

"Yes," Thierry said, "She moved into your old home a few days ago and left. She never returned."

"What about Klaus?" Tyler asked.

"He is there too," Thierry replied tensely. "Look we don't have time to screw around. Are you coming or not?"

.*.*.*.*.*.

Klaus sat downstairs, swirling his glass of Scotch, when Marcel joined him.

"Been a long time since we had a drink together," Marcel said.

"Too long," Klaus replied.

Marcel shook his head, "Why?" He asked, "Why after everything you went through, what I went through, why do that to her?"

"Because as much as I don't want to admit it Marcel I had more of Mikael in me then I want to believe," Klaus said, "I was angry and power hungry and still grieving because I believed that you were dead. You were my protégé, my son, the one who wanted to do what I wanted. I couldn't understand why she opposed me so much until she put me in that box." Klaus explained before taking a drink, "She was my blood and yet she defied me at every turn, went against me. When we were in Romania and she hadn't fed… seeing her gaunt, pale, lifeless… it was heartbreaking. The girl that had been thwarting me at every turn wasn't there…she was a shell Marcel and it hit me. I saw myself reflected in her eyes; I caught a glimpse of what I had done to her just as Mikael had done to me. I began to hate myself Marcel and every single time she opened that coffin I saw a little more of her slip away each time and all I wanted was to pull her back, but I can't do that Marcel."

"Who can?" Marcel asked.

"Damon," Klaus said.

"Ahhh, so he's the boyfriend," Marcel said while trying to hide a smile.

"She loves him," Klaus said, "I never believed it was possible, but she has given up everything to protect him and the others. She is selfless."

"Who would want her Klaus?" Marcel asked.

"Any number of people," Klaus stated gravely, "She's unique Marcel and she has power, power that I believe has been untapped."

"Marcel," a woman interrupted them, "They're here."

"Thanks," Marcel said and stood up, "You ready for this?"

Klaus downed the Scotch, "Let's see who's coming after me first." He said.

.*.*.*.*.*.

"You have got to be kidding," Matt said under his breath as he looked at Elijah. "You guys know that he's gonna take the coffin and run."

"You do realize I can hear you." Elijah said loudly, "I'm old not deaf and for your information I plan on finding my niece."

"And letting your psycho brother out," Caroline said.

"I would have thought you of all people might miss Klaus a bit." Elijah said, "After all you two did have a connection."

"Hello," a young brunette girl greeted them with a blonde girl, "My name is Davina."

"Bella's cousin," Elena said, recognizing her from Bella's thoughts.

"And you're Elena," Davina smiled, "It's nice to meet you. This is Cami."

Cami crossed her arms, "I can't believe this is going on." She said.

"Cami," Davina elbowed her.

"Oh no hunny, this is partially your fault too." Cami replied, "You're the one who had the bright idea to do it."

"Easy Cami," Marcel interrupted as he made his presence known, "This is for Bella."

"Yeah and Bella's gonna kick your asses when she gets back here." Cami replied.

"Marcel," Rebekah said quietly.

"Hey," He smiled at her, "You look good."

"Thank you," Rebekah said.

"Elijah," Marcel walked over to shake his hand.

"You lied to me when I asked if she was here," Elijah said annoyed.

"Technically I didn't. She didn't arrive until a few weeks after you stopped by," Marcel explained.

"Can we cut to the chase?" Damon asked, "What happened to Bella?"

"You're the boyfriend," Marcel said, "Should have known."

"Marcel what happened?" Rebekah asked.

"Something happened with the witches here." Marcel said, "Davina is Bella's cousin but the witches that were helping Bella were also trying to kill Davina. Once Bella found out, she cut ties and moved here. That night she went out and she hasn't been back. I've sent people everywhere and we've gotten nothing."

"What about Klaus?" Bonnie asked, "Did they get him too?"

"No," Marcel tensed. "He's here."

"Marcel, may I see him?" Elijah asked.

"Oh no," Elena said, "You aren't letting him out."

"He could help us," Elijah said,

"He'll kill her." Elena snapped. "He'll kill us then kill her."

"Sorry Elena, but exacting my revenge on all of you is pretty low on my list of things to do." Klaus said as he came through a door.

Bonnie's eyes got big, "What the hell?" she yelled.

Before anything else was said Damon blurred and attacked Klaus.

.*.*.*.*.*.

"She's going to wake up," a voice said from a distance.

"Then give her more white oak ash." Another snapped.

"We could kill her," another voice argued.

"He wants her to be lucid and docile," a female voice said, "We sit and wait. If she starts becoming too much of a problem before we can move her we will dose her some more."

Bella tried opening her eyes, but she couldn't…they were so heavy. Her entire body felt heavy and she felt cold metal on her wrist.

"Shhhhhhh," a voice in her head said, "Sleep Isabella, don't try to wake up. It will make things so much easier."

Bella felt her mind become hazy and tried to shake it off.

"You can't fight me Isabella." The voice laughed.

Bella tried to fight back, but she couldn't and she succumbed to the darkness, but before she did she silently called out to Elena.

.*.*.*.*.*.

"Damon, stop," Stefan begged as he tried to hold him back with the help of Thierry.

"If something has happened to Bella it's his fault," Damon snarled, snapping his teeth at Klaus.

"What the hell?" Bonnie asked again.

"Blame little miss witch," Cami pointed to Davina, "I personally was all for keeping him trapped."

"He can help us," Davina said.

"There's a reason Bella put him in there," Caroline argued.

"And I've let him out for a bigger reason," Davina said angrily, "I lost Bella once. I won't lose her again and if he tries anything, I will end him."

"Damon," Stefan said, "Think about Bella."

Damon seethed and retracted his fangs, "Fine," he said through clenched teeth.

"I know you don't trust me," Klaus said, "But I want her found as much as the rest of you."

"Why, so you can hurt her?" Jeremy growled.

"No," Klaus said, "Look we don't have time for explanations right now. We need to find my daughter."

"Don't call her that," Rebekah said, "You have no right to call her that."

"Look, all of you stop it now," Marcel said, "We either work together or Bella is screwed."

"What do you know?" Bonnie asked angrily.

"Bella's still in the city," Klaus said, "I can feel her."

"They're connected," Davina said as she looked at Bonnie, "I think we could track Bella down using his blood. I'm powerful and I've already tried several times, but something is blocking me. Klaus says you're powerful so between the two of us we should be able to do it."

Cami's phone went off and she left the room.

Elena was watching when she felt a tug and grabbed her chest.

"Elena?" Caroline asked.

Elena felt the tug again.

"Elena what's wrong?" Matt asked.

"I don't know," Elena replied as she grabbed her chest for a second time, "I feel something."

"It's Bella," Klaus said, "She's calling you." He looked at Bonnie and Davina, "If you plan on doing that spell now would be the best time. Combine mine and Elena's blood it will make the tracking spell stronger."

Davina led the group into the room and grabbed a knife. She looked at Elena, "Do you still feel the tug?"

Elena nodded.

Davina quickly cut Elena's hand and Klaus' hand; they bled onto a map of the city and Davina and Bonnie joined hands before they started the chanting.

"Let the one who is lost be found with blood to whom she is bound." They said.

Slowly the blood started form a line that ended near a cemetery.

"Metairie Cemetery," Marcel said.

"Let's go," Damon said.

"We can't," Thierry said, "The cemetery is blocked by the witches."

"Shit," Marcel replied.

"I can undo the spell," Davina said.

"You can't go out there," Marcel said, "The moment you do the witches will be all over you."

"She's my cousin." Davina argued.

"We can watch her back," Caroline said, "You guys get Bella, we got her."

"It's settled." Damon said and looked at Klaus through narrowed eyes, "Don't you think about taking her."

Before anyone could move, Camille walked back in.

"Guys," Cami called out, "My uncle figured out some of the symbols Davina has painted."

"Thierry," Marcel turned to his friend, "Go with Cami. Diego you will stay with Davina and the others. The Mikaelsons, the Salvatores, Elena, Bonnie and myself will go to the cemetery. We do this fast, in and out."

"Whoever finds her first doesn't wait for anyone," Klaus said, "You grab her and you run."

"As if that needed to be said," Damon growled.

"Let's go." Marcel said.

.*.*.*.*.*.

Bella forced her eyes open and looked around. She was in a tomb of some sort with her ankles and wrist bound. An I.V was hooked up to her arm and it was pumping fluid into her.

"Don't try to move," a man said, "It will only make it worse."

"Who are you?" Bella asked; her voice was scratchy and weak.

"Doesn't matter," the man replied.

Bella looked at the I.V.

"Saline solution," he said, "Mixed with white oak ash. We've seen your abilities. We've been watching you for a while Bella."

"Let me go," Bella said.

The man laughed, "No," he said, "We have special orders for you. Right now you should just sleep. We'll be leaving soon."

"I'm going to kill you," Bella said as she let her hybrid side out.

Immediately a rush of white oak ash and saline were pushed into her system and she screamed.

"The system is hooked up to monitor your heart rate. When it gets above a certain level the system pushes more into your system to weaken you." The man explained. "You should listen to him and not fight."

"Who is him?" Bella choked out.

"Silas," the man smiled an evil smile.

Another rush of fluid pumped into Bella and she screamed out in pain.

"Bella?" Elena's voice invaded the hybrid's head.

Bella looked around.

"Bella if you can hear me we are coming." Elena said.

Bella started to panic and again the system pumped more white oak into her body and she screamed in pain.

"What is going on?" a woman asked as she came in.

"I warned her," the man said, "She won't stay calm."

"Then take her off the machine," the woman snapped.

Suddenly the door burst open and Damon came through and grabbed the woman before he threw her against the wall knocking her out. Next he went for the guy, but Stefan stopped him.

"Damon we need him alive." Stefan reasoned as he grabbed his brother.

"Oh my god," Elena walked in with a gasp as she saw Bella.

She ripped the I.V. out of Bella's arm and saw that she was bleeding from her ears, eyes, and nose.

"Damon we have to get her out of here now!" Elena yelled.

"I've got him," Stefan said.

Damon begrudgingly let the guy go and turned to see Bella for the first time. He froze. She looked like she couldn't breathe; blood was coming from her ears, nose and eyes.

"Damon," Elena snapped, "We have to get her out of here."

Damon quickly scooped Bella up and started walking out with her.

.*.*.*.*.*.

"The witches are on their way," Bonnie yelled out as she waited on guard with Marcel and the Originals.

Damon walked through the opening of the tomb with Bella in his arms. All eyes were fixed on her limp body. One pair in particular seemed to burn a hole into her…Klaus'.

"What happened?" Bonnie asked after coming over to Elena.

"Not now," Elena said, "We need to get her back to Marcel's."

.*.*.*.*.*.

Once Damon walked through the door of the compound, Cami was right there.

"There's a room upstairs ready for her," Cami said.

"She's been dosed with white oak ash," Elena explained.

"I've got a doc coming," Marcel walked alongside the others as they followed Bella's body.

Everyone ran around the house in a frenzy as they tried to help Bella while Klaus quietly slipped into the library where Elijah followed him.

"Are you alright?" Elijah asked.

"My daughter is upstairs nearly dead." Klaus replied.

"Why should you care?" Rebekah interrupted as she walked in.

"She is my daughter," Klaus snapped.

"You haven't exactly been the best father," Kol joined in, "By the way how was it being trapped in a box? I must say I believe I speak for all of us when I say it was quite the poetic justice for what you did to us so many times throughout the years. Though I think you should have spent a bit more time in there."

"Stop it Kol," Elijah ordered.

"No," Klaus said, "I deserve it."

Rebekah's eyes got big, "I'm sorry, can you say that again? I don't think I heard you right."

"You did," Klaus said, "I was wrong and I deserve everything I have gotten and more, but right now that doesn't matter. Someone is after my daughter I have every intention of finding them and ending them."

"I have a question," Kol sat down, "What are you going to do when Bella wakes up? I mean while you seem to have Marcel and that little witch convinced, I have to say I am not. I am also sure that no one else, especially Isabella, will buy the shit you're selling."

"I'm not selling anything," Klaus snarled, "And I don't have to explain myself to you."

Klaus stormed out of the room and headed up the stairs where everyone except Damon was sitting outside Bella's door.

"Don't even think about," Tyler growled after he quickly stood in front of him.

"She's my daughter," Klaus said.

"For all we know you did this to her," Bonnie snapped, "You could have planned the entire thing." Bonnie looked at Davina, "You don't know what he is capable of."

"He isn't going to hurt her," Davina said confidently.

"Let him through," Elijah said, "He should see her."

"You might as well," Rebekah said, "He'll only fight and she needs rest."

Tyler growled and moved to the side, allowing Klaus to walk in.

He saw a doctor hooking Bella up to an I.V. while Damon sat on the bed next to her.

Damon's eyes caught sight of him and he tensed. Damon slowly got off the bed and walked up to Klaus and spoke quietly.

"Get out," he said.

"How is she?" Klaus asked, ignoring Damon.

"She's got a lot of white oak ash circulating through her system. It's a wonder she's even alive." The doctor said.

"She's a fighter," Klaus stated.

"I can see that," the doctor replied, "I don't know when she's going to come to or how weak she is going to be. What I can tell you is that she needs rest."

"What can we do?" Klaus asked.

"Get out," Damon growled and shoved Klaus. "You've done enough."

"Both of you stop it," The doctor snapped, "You can start by putting whatever shit is between you all aside. Your main focus should be her because she is going to need help starting with blood donors. Marcel briefed me about her preferences."

"Hook me up," Klaus started rolling up his sleeve.

The doctor shook her head, "Not now," she said, "The white oak ash would get into your system. No we have to wait for it to flush out. I've hooked her up to a saline drip which should help, but I suggest you start stocking up on blood." The doctor looked at Bella, "She's going to need it."

The doctor left the room and Damon stood in front of Bella protectively.

"Damon I understand your hesitancy at me being near my daughter." Klaus started.

"She's not your daughter. She's Charlie's." Damon snapped.

"She is my flesh and blood," Klaus said, "And while I said I understand your protectiveness and I do appreciate it, you will not keep me away from her. I want to find out who is after her and I want them dead."

"And when they're gone what happens then Klaus?" Damon asked, "You come after us to punish her for sticking your ass in that box where you belong."

"No," Klaus replied, "I won't be coming after you or anyone else that Isabella cares about. I am done hurting her."

"So what now, its father of the year?" Damon asked sarcastically, "You've done irreversible damage Klaus. You've literally scarred her…only cowards mark their children."

"You're right," Klaus replied while trying to keep control, "I am coward. I was a coward. I treated my daughter the way Mikael treated me and the way Marcel's father treated him, but that is done. I will not allow any harm to come to her and that includes from me. I can never make up for what I've done. I know that, but I will do what it takes to at least gain some sort of relationship with her."

"You will never have a relationship with her Klaus," Damon snapped. "She wants nothing to do with you. She wants you gone just like the rest of us. The closest you will ever be to her and know her is whatever was said when you were in that coffin. I know you saw the hatred in her eyes that she feels towards you." Damon said, "You will never know her like the rest of us do. You will never have her love, her respect, or her trust. You burned that opportunity long ago. You can sit here and put on some bullshit show and Elijah, that little witch, Marcel, Kol, and maybe even Rebekah might buy it, but the rest of us know exactly who you are." Damon pointed to Bella, "And she will never let you forget that because to her you don't have any humanity left in you."

Klaus growled and flexed his hands as he tried to keep his control while Damon tensed at the action, ready for a fight.

Suddenly Cami walked in, "I hate to break up the standoff in here," she said, "But my uncle has got something," She tossed a file at Klaus, "Elijah said you would want to see this."

Klaus looked through the file and tensed.

"What is it?" Damon asked.

"Yeah Klaus," Cami crossed her arms, "What is it? Care to share with the rest of us?"

Klaus shut the file, "I know who is after Isabella."

"Who?" Damon asked.

"I'll handle it," Klaus said.

"No you won't," Cami stepped in front of Klaus, "That girl in that bed is my friend who has saved my ass over and over again. She is like a sister to me and all those people downstairs care about her. Some of us have known her for years while others haven't known her very long, but we are a family and unlike your family, we stick together and have each other's backs. So you better start talking or else."

Damon smirked, "You heard her Klaus," Damon said. "Who is it?"

Klaus growled, "His name is Silas."
