The Masquerade

Kurt sits back as Rachel belts out the final note of her song, slightly annoyed that she insists on using so much power on notes that should have a more gentle tune to them; emotion over power and all of that. Alas, he is still proud of her and judging my Carmen's smile, so is she. As everyone stands to applaud her, Kurt finds his eyes drifting through the crowd. Fortunately for Rachel's impressive display, the many professors and possibly talent scouts that he noticed will most likely be getting in contact with her shortly.

"If only I could prove myself to them." He mutters before letting Rachel embrace him in a hug, Carmen in turn taking the stage. "You were wonderful."

"Thank you." She smiles before turning into Brody's embrace and looking to Carmen with eager eyes.

"Thank you, Rachel. That was impressive, yes. Now before we end our showcase, I would like to offer the stage to Mr. Kurt Hummel." She eyes him hard with a smile.

Kurt finds himself breathless as he feels only the eyes of only a handful of people that know him before the rest follow suit thanks to Carmen's glancing at him.

"I-uh-"

"But first lets give our final guest of the night a few moments to prepare." Kurt lets out a shaky breath before he finds himself fleeing the room as one can without looking like an emotional basket case.

Adam finds himself leaving the showcase hall with a smile. He had finally found the boy. He was pretty sure that he was only daydreaming when he saw K in the coffee shop, or his art class . . . or in his dreams, but to actually catch a glimpse of the man himself in that crowd.

"Wow." Adam laughs softly as he walks through the dim hallway, the sounds of the city being heard quietly in the distance. "I finally found-" He stops as he sees the man in question sitting in the lobby. ". . . him."

He remembered the girl vaguely until he saw her perform again, but that mans face was something he doubt he could forget. Unfortunately his face is full of worry. He has the urge to go approach him, but he withdraws himself to the shadows of the hallway. Although he feels a very strong connection to the boy, he doesn't know him that well. If anything it would discourage him and throw him off later.

"I get to hear him sing again." The smile is suddenly back on his face.

He feels like he just had a few pints with his mates. He looks back and finds the smiling into a hug with that girl. He feels better knowing that K looks better. He quickly hides behind the corner again as the two start their ascension up the staircase. He heads back down the hallway to prepare himself for what he's sure will be an incredible performance.

Adam was right. He knew that the boy could sing based on what he had heard the first time they met, but he had no idea that K could carry such emotion and depth to Being Alive. The vibrato, subtlety, and raw emotion was simply understanding. He reaches up to wipe the few tears that had come down during the magnificent performance. He is quick to continue applauding with the rest of the captivated audience. While his female friend was great with her Christmas songs, he's pretty sure that everyone in the room knew K to be the better singer.

He takes his seat back down on the side and watches as Carmen gets up to end the show. Honestly when Joey had encouraged him to come out to the showcase he was sure that it would be the same as it had been the previous years, but it was so much more. Too bad Joey got caught up with a friend on the way there and couldn't make it. Or rather too good since he's sure his face would be a dead giveaway towards his infatuation at K.

He has been at NYADA for going on three years and it now took a lot for him to be absolutely enraptured by someone performing as most people tend to have the same presence on stage. Yes Kurt wasn't the first one to capture his attention, but he was the first that caught his attention as first a person, and now secondly his talent. Smiling, he thinks back to when he first met K. He had thought that the crazy drunk broad was going to grope him, but only put an amazing guy in his arms. Sadly he had only been in his arms that once.

Kurt smiles as he sits down in the dark room, staring at the lone spotlight in the performance room. It's hard to believe that he was just standing there, letting the song flow through him. He was more than surprised at the reaction he received, but it made him feel more like that he was more than some choir member. Remembering to high school, he didn't feel like much of a singer back then. He knew he had the vocals but the small town minds of his teachers and glee club friends led him to believe that he should have a set of powerhouse vocals over his own preferred method of subtlety and nuanced vocals.

"I've come so far." He mutters as he relaxes into the seat.

Rachel was off talking to people in the lobby. He knows he should join her, but he feels like he should stay in the room for a bit longer. To bask in his own personal sense of achievement.

The lights dimming in the room distracts him from his thoughts, realizing that the room is now empty. He must have been there longer than he though. He looks down to his fathers old watch on his wrist and gasps audibly at the late time. He was too caught up with his thoughts to clear the room with everyone else. He lets out a deep sigh, the deep thinking of the day getting him in a tired mood.

"Is someone there?"

He looks up at the voice, now realizing that he's not alone and that his sigh was heard. "I'm sorry." He stands up along with the voice, eyeing the silhouette in the spotlight. "I didn't realize that anyone else was here. Just a bit fuzzled right now. Sorry mate."

"It's -" The shadow steps forward and Adam is able to realize who it is through the dim lighting.

"K."

Sorry I haven't been around guys. House burnt down, didn't know passwords, and my original outlines are gone. But I'm giving it a go blindly. :) Let me know what you think.
