The Masquerade

Kurt's mouth switches to a smile almost immediately before he's suddenly biting his lip, and smiling again. He finds himself at a loss of what to say. He had been thinking about the boy far too much for only meeting him once. Unhealthy, perhaps, but it was one of the few things that made him smile in his increasingly busy life.

"Hi." They both say at the same time, chuckling awkwardly as soon as they hear each other.

"A." Kurt starts calmly with a smile. "You're here."

"Indeed." Adam nods. "As are you."

"Yeah." Kurt laughs before looking down to the chairs next to him. "Do you want to have a seat?"

"Sure." Adam nods as he leaves his own seat to join Kurt.

Kurt waits for Adam to sit down first before he takes his own. He finds himself letting his eyes wander over the beautiful face. His dreams had managed to forget a few details but he still remembers A rather well. He doesn't know what to do with his hands so he settles for holding them together on his lap. He watches as A does the same, although seemingly with a bit more composure.

"So how have you been?" Adam asks as he leans forward slightly, not that Kurt notices.

"I've been . . ." Kurt thinks for a second, only finding the words when he looks at the room around them. "Getting better. It's been a trying few months but I'm finally getting somewhere with my efforts."

"I saw, er, heard." Adam chuckles. "I'm glad that Tibedeux gave you that chance."

"I'm more surprised." Kurt comments honestly. "I didn't even know what was happening. I just had to get out of here."

"Yeah." Adam laughs nervously. "I kind of saw you leave the room. Before that I didn't even know that you were here."

"Yeah . . ." Kurt trails off. "I was just here to support my friend."

"The one from the dance." Adam nods. "I do remember her. She has quite an impressive voice. I certainly wasn't expecting that."

"It's her general attitude that throws off an care that she might have talent." Kurt laughs. "But I'm glad you liked her. I'll have to let her know."

"Well you were rather good, if I'm not being too bold." Adam looks down, blushing. "You may not have that extra power or ability to belt beyond what anyone should, but you can definitely sing. You have that emotional side to your voice that just draws people in and makes them feel something." He looks back up to Kurt with wide eyes. "Sorry. Rambling. I guess my point is, is that you're a great singer."

"Well thank you." Kurt feels a blush of his own creeping up onto his cheeks. "I'm sure I was shaky at points, but I suppose as long as Carmen liked it then I'm on good terms."

"Well yes, I suppose as well." Adam mutters before he locks eyes with Kurt, a coy smile playing on his lips. "I learned something else tonight though."

"Oh yeah?" Kurt leans forward. "And what would that be?

"Other than my friend knows too many people and gets distracted easily," Adam laughs before letting out a shaky breath. "I learned that your name is Kurt."

"Ah." Kurt sits back. "Yeah. Kurt. Kurt's my name. My name is Kurt." Kurt stops with a nervous chuckle. "I guess I'm rambling now." He stops and extends a shaky hand. "Hi. I'm Kurt. Nice to meet you."

"It's very nice to meet you, Kurt." Adam smiles wide at Kurt. "I've honestly thought more about this moment than I probably should have been in these recent months."

"Same here." Kurt agrees before pausing. "So what's your name?"

"Adam." Adam pronounces clearly, his accent standing out with such adorable flare that Kurt chuckles at. "Adam Crawford of Essex, England."

"Sounds so official." Kurt laughs. "But it's very nice to meet you, Adam Crawford. I'm just Kurt Hummel."

"Oh I'm sure that you're much than you think you are. Clearly being able to come back and face the short notice of someone as strict as Tibedeux and deliver not only an outstanding performance, but memorable one is just one of what I'm sure is a lifetime of wonders." Adam grips Kurt's hand a tad tighter. "And I know that I basically have no idea of who you are outside of our short and minimal conversations, but I have an inkling that my statement still stands."

Kurt looks down, biting his bottom lip. He finds himself at a loss for words. He himself had considered that his life was getting better, but that someone he barely knows is able to see so much in him gives him hope. That and hearing those words from such a charming and flattering voice just made it seem like an even more plausible goal for furthering his career and goals.

"Thank you." Kurt finally lets go of Adam's hand and looks down to his lap for a brief second before looking back up to Adam. "So . . . what are you up to once you leave here?"

"Oh. Erm. I suppose I'll head back home. Joey. my roommate and best friend who ditched me tonight, will be out for the night so heading home to eat and sleep sounds like a good way to keep this day ending on an end note." Adam sits back. "How about yourself?"

"Well it depends on if Rachel is having her boyfriend over or not." Kurt frowns. "But otherwise home. Whether I sleep peacefully or uncomfortably with ear buds is still up for debate though."

"Awe." Adam frowns but leans forward. "I mean if it wasn't too forward of me I'd invite you over for a drink or two, but it might be too late for that."

"Well it's only 9." Kurt looks down at his watch to double check. "And I'm off tomorrow. It doesn't sound terribly bad. Sorry. Do I sound too eager?"

"Not at all. "Adam laughs before standing up and extending a hand down to Kurt. "Shall we?"

I know that it's another short chapter, but I wanted to update. Only a few more chapters as it was meant to be a short multi-chapter, so I hope you enjoy.
