The Masquerade

Adam quickly guides Kurt to the door of their building, trying to make sure that they get inside fast. Kurt holds tighter onto Adam's coat as the downpour above them continues. He watches Adam fumble with his keys before they're both off of the stoop and into the fancy lobby of Adam's apartment building.

"Here you go." Kurt smiles as he removes Adam's coat from his head and returns it to the boy in question. "I wish you would have kept it though. You're soaked."

Adam shrugs, smiling as he eyes Kurt's tossled hair. "Yes, but it is worth seeing this cuteness." He reaches forward and runs his hands through Kurt's hair before smoothing it back out again. "The rain looks good on you."

"You too." Kurt mutters with a smile as Adam leads them to the elevator.

He can't help but glance up and down Adam's body, licking his lips in the process. Without his jacket, Adam's white shirt is stuck tightly against his chiseled physique. Kurt bites his lips before standing in the elevator and letting Adam tap on his floor number.

They both lean against the wall as the elevator music settles into the background. Kurt finds himself staring at both of their hands, mere inches from each other on the gold bars that wrap around the small area. Adam's pinky twitches towards his hand and he looks up to the find the man looking intently at his face.
Kurt lets his eyes trace over Adam's face, feeling all warm inside. Adam smiles as he leans forward, biting his own lip. He looks down at Adam's lips as he feels his own lips open up for a kiss, but the elevator dings.

"This is me." Adam chuckles before pulling back and holding his hand out for Kurt. "Lets get you dry."

"Yeah. I wouldn't want you to get sick either." Kurt laughs as Adam guides him out of the elevator.

Kurt looks slowly around Adam's small apartment. Instead of turning all of the lights on, Adam lit up the fire. Kurt cuddled further into the warm couch as he takes in the homey apartment. Piles of books, a guitar propped up in the corner, and a sprawl of Nintendo 64 games lined up on his coffee table. Kurt found himself smiling at all of the small things. In some ways, it seemed that Adam was the polar opposite of himself, but he found it endearing.

"I see you eyeing-" Adam announces himself by walking into the room with two steaming mugs of brown liquid. "My Mario Kart. I warn you, I'm an ace driver." Adam sits down and places the mugs on the table, allowing Kurt to smell the warm hot chocolate from within. "But I might throw a round if you were to play."

"You could still do your best, and I'd probably race circles around you." Kurt teases as he reaches for his cup of delicious warmth. "But we should settle that one of these days."

"That would be great." Adam winks as he takes a sip of his own beverage. "Speaking of great, although, that's exactly what you were tonight. Splendid."

"Why thank you." Kurt looks down, his cheeks flushing red. "I never thought I would be in a spotlight like that. Years of being in a high school where you never get the lead in anything . . . I never really thought I would have that big moment. You know?"

"I do, and I'm sorry that you haven't had a lot of big moments. You deserve them." Adam places his hand hesitantly on Kurt's knee. "And you just had a lot of people hear you, and they can make that happen."

Kurt sets his hot cocoa down before placing his hand on top of Adam's. "Thank you. Now enough about me. Nyada? What brought you there? You seem more like . . . a masquerade ball type."

Adam snorts. "Well for NYADA, I was accepted two years ago. We have some prestige universities back home, but NYADA was looking for international students and offered a scholarship. I'd be stupid to say no. And the Masquerade Ball was just me helping out a friend."

"Well I, for one, am happy that you helped out your friend that night.. Just never really thought anything would become of it." Kurt squeezes Adam's hand. "But that sounds like a great opportunity. Any plans beyond NYADA?"

Adam bites his lip before winking at Kurt. 'I'm keeping an open mind."

Kurt looks away with a smile, deciding to focus on his hot chocolate as they settle into some comfortable silence. He can practically see Adam beaming with happiness from his side, his gaze burning into Kurt's head. It takes him a second before he realizes that Adam is slowly rubbing his thumb on the back of Kurt's hand.

Kurt looks back to Adam as they both settle into the couch. "So tell me . . ." Kurt gulps as he tries to carry on the conversation. "I guess anything about you? What makes Adam . . . tick?"

"Well, I like to consider myself as a creative individual. As you know with NYADA, I'm definitely into the arts, but I think it can go a bit deeper. Maybe writing, or maybe just sticking it to the stage." Adam stares off into the distance as he begins to ramble. "I know it sounds ridiculous, but maybe a one man show. A fantasy of sorts. Something that you don't usually see on stage. A story with multiple levels and-" Adam stops and blinks a few times before looking back to Kurt with an awkward smile. "Lets just say I'm awkward."

Kurt laughs. "It's nice. I've always wanted to do something a bit off key. But who knows . . . " Kurt looks down to his drink. "So when does your roommate get home?"

"Hopefully not soon, but who knows. He's a wild card." Adam chuckles. "But I should probably call you a cab. I'm sure your own roommate is worried."

Kurt laughs as he holds up his phone with a list of missed texts and calls from Rachel. "I texted her in the cab that I would get home fine."

"Should I let you respond?"

"No." Kurt shakes his head slightly before turning his hand over in Adam's. "I'm enjoying myself."

Adam chuckles awkward before looking down at their intertwined hands. "I am-"

Kurt finds himself pressing his lips against Adam's, no regrets in his actions. Adam opens up his lips, letting Kurt part his briefly before pushing them back together again. Kurt breaks their hands to bring his own up to grip onto Adam's neck.

Kurt starts to slow down, but as he pulls away Adam gently bites on Kurt's lip for a brief second before they pull apart. Kurt is smiling wide at Adam's own crooked smile. Kurt reaches up to fix his tossled hair.

"Sorry?" He forces out as he steadies his breath. "Should I be?"

"No." Adam chuckles before sneaking in for a quick kiss before pulling back only barely, their lips still touching. "Don't ever be sorry."

Kurt smiles before reconnecting their lips.

It's been awhile, but I'm determined to finish up this story on a solid note. :) Let me know what you think.
