"Listen, Ruby," Ruby answered his call, "I want you go back where we found her, take my bug and remember there was a toll bridge nearby and see if he was there."
"I'll call our on-call deputy to check it out."
"No, Ruby, you were great out there. I still don't know how you found him but you can do this," giving her a talk that he believes in her, but Ruby wasn't sure, not fully confidence in herself yet. Magnus tries another way, "it's going to be dark, and David is going to be let out soon. I have a hunch, and something is there, and we gotta get there first," Ruby wouldn't let down and still listen to him, "we don't have time to argue, Ruby. Can you do this?"
Ruby arrived at the scene where they found Jim, near toll bridge in Magnus' yellow beetle. Ruby was still on the phone with Magnus, "I mean, what am I looking for?"
"Anything out of ordinary. Something that doesn't belong there."
Ruby walks down the ditch, near the river and toll bridge and spotted a wooden board, "and if I find something?"
"Follow your instinct."
Ruby put down her phone and removed the wooden board, heart beating fast and terrified of what she's going to find. Looking for something to dig and found a wooden stick then started digging with it. Ruby sighs happily that she follows her instinct just fine when she heard him asking if she found anything of Kathryn's, but it's a chest, a small chest with gold on the top. "Ruby, what's going on?"
Ruby cleans the mud off of the chest then screams when she opens it and drops it.
"Ruby?!"
Ruby whimpering and scared, panting heavily when he kept hollering her, "Ruby?"
It's a heart inside the chest and Sheriff Magnus recognized the chest then looked up to David, "what's in it, Magnus?"
Magnus didn't answer yet because he was concerned with Ruby, "are you okay?"
"I don't know what I am."
"It's going to be fine. We can figure out what happened now," he gently touches her arm, "you did good, Ruby."
"This is doing good?" Ruby tears fell onto her face.
"Yes, it's amazing. You found Jim, and now this," carefully walking closer to Ruby, "look, I know you don't know what you are, but whatever it is, I'm impressed."
"Don't be," she smiles and chuckling, "I was scared out of my mind."
"You did it anyway."
Ruby returns working with Granny, and it looks like finding a heart is bit too adventurous for her. She overcomes herself and realizes she can take more responsibility and Granny wondered what about lemur and doing some adventures, but Ruby smiles, "no, Magnus was my lemur, did that. I want to do something that makes me happy. Somewhere I love." It turns out Granny wanted to hand over the business, both the diner and Bed and Breakfast when she retires, so that's why she gave her extra responsibilities so she can learn. So now, she's happily working at the dinner with Granny.
Ruby hugs me in thanks and told me what happened to one of the ladies that come crying to her then ordered me to give her a fucking call.
It was a human heart and watching Mary Margaret and David holding their hands through the prison cells. It was Mary Margaret's fingerprints all over it, David shook the cells and shouted at me, "let her go! She didn't do this!"
Jim ran through the stations and pointed at David and his puffy eyes, "what did you do to her?!"
"Jim!" Sheriff Magnus tries to hold him back, and he tries to break off from Magnus to confront David. He gave in and dropped, crying for his wife, and Magnus held him, "we are going to find her, Jim. We don't know if it's Kathryn's heart. We just know it's a human heart."
Sheriff Magnus now taking photos of Mary Margaret, and she was determined to convince Magnus, "Magnus, this is a mistake. We didn't do this!"
"Of course, you guys didn't," took off the photo from the camera, "I'm your friend, but I'm also your Sheriff for time being. I have to go where the evidence leads," but in truth he's been trying to find out the truth, he believes someone is framing them. He didn't say anything about that yet, and Mary Margaret wondered why it points to them, "which points to us?"
"Magnus, something is not right here. Yesterday it's David and now it's both of us?"
"I know," organizing photos together, "your fingerprints are on the box, not his. He made a mysterious phone call to Kathryn that night of the crash. So now, we have to deal with this."
"The evidence says I cut out Kathryn's heart and buried it at toll bridge?"
"No, you cut out someone's heart," Magnus made her look at him to listen carefully, "if I don't book both of you, with all the evidence, it's going to look like favorism. Regina will fire me then she will put in someone who will railroad you. So please," begging David and Mary Margaret when he looks at both of them, "please trust me, be patient with me and let me do my job. I am still waiting for DNA results."
Mary Margaret nods repeatedly when he kept trying to get them to have a little faith in him, "just please bear with me here."
Mary Margaret was led to a room where Mayor Mills was waiting for her, "Hello. Mrs. Nolan." Mary Margaret didn't think Regina will be here, turning to Magnus, "what is she doing here?"
"She asked to be here as a third party to make sure I stay impartial."
"I got nothing to hide," she sat on the chair, waiting for him to ask series of questions.
Magnus clicks the recorder on, the heart was found buried near the toll bridge and it has been cut by what appears to be a hunting knife. "Have you been at the bridge before?"
"Yes, many times. It's our spot, David and I."
"And you met there for what purposes?" Magnus walked around to put on glove to show her the box that was found.
"We were having … intimate time, but it doesn't mean I kill Kathryn."
"Have you seen this before?" Magnus shows her the small chest.
Mary Margaret's eyes crossed, "yes, it's my jewelry box."
"It's where we found the heart in it."
"Don't you see what's happening here. Someone stole my box and put the heart in it," they are obviously being framed, "I'm innocent! We didn't do anything with it!"
Regina reaches out and held her hands, "it's okay. I know what you're going through. I know what's liked to lose someone and be publicly humiliated. It changes me."
Magnus tries to search the truth in her, what … oh, he realizes why she's been so angry at her, did she find out about …, but why does that matter, we aren't dating or anything, are we, he wondered. Mary Margaret pulled her hands away from her, "I haven't changed. I would never kill someone. I am a good person; David and I are good people."
Sheriff Magnus tries to stay polite, "Mayor Mills, can I see you in the hallway?"
"I told you to leave the questioning to me."
"How do you know they didn't do it?" Regina points out that if it was stolen as she claims then shouldn't be there a sign of break in or of a kind. "You're the Sheriff, have there been a break-in?" Magnus studied and watched her, "she's the woman with a heart broken."
"Are you speaking of her or yourself, Madam Mayor?" Magnus forces her into the corner for privacy, "you made it perfectly clear that we aren't dating!"
"I said no such thing!" Regina proclaims, that day they had argument, and they weren't ready to date, so she asked to wait little longer because of the state he was in, and still.
"We only did it three times, Regina. What is your fucking big deal? What did I do?!"
Regina grumbled and growls at him in frustration and the stubbornness, but also so blind. Why is he so blind? Why is he acting this way? Why can't he see that he loves her? Why is he …, all the thoughts running through her mind then composed herself again and not having this discussion with him again, "good day, Sheriff Magnus. Call me once you have any new information about Kathryn."
"Regina!"
"Regina, wait!" Magnus watches her walking head high and with pride walking away from my bullshit. She ignores me while I unashamedly watches her nice round ass and her regal walk out of this station.
Sheriff Magnus checked every corner, the door and the windows for any signs of break-in at Mary Margaret's apartment. She searches for any clues, broken windows, jams and all sort of things. Anything could happen. He believes someone is setting them up, framing them, but who and why is two-million-dollar questions. However, the problem is, nobody has motive. While he was searching, he heard some rattling then looked down at the floor. He popped the rusty metal on the floor off and reaches his down to see what the cause of the rattling was. He felt something hard, so he pulled it out and his eyes widen, oh fuck, it's a hunting knife when he unwrapped it. Someone was sure to frame them, and I am pretty sure Mary Margaret didn't know that this could be opened.
While Sheriff Magnus working, Henry was depressed for two reasons: Magnus didn't have the time to spend time with him. Another reason, David and Mary Margaret in prison, he whole heartedly believes that they didn't do it. Ruby filled hot cocoa with cinnamon on cream, and he just swirl on the cream.
August sat down next to him, "you're not going to find answers at the bottom of that mug."
They didn't do it, and he knows it. August brought up about the book of stories, real stories and Henry was glad to know there was one person that believes in him. He was here for Magnus and to help him believe.
"Why don't you just tell him?"
"Has that been working lately?"
Henry sighs, "then what you're gonna do?"
"People like us, we go by faith, but others like Magnus, they need proof."
"Last time I tried to find proof, I got myself trapped in a sinkhole."
He eyed his book in his backpack to tell him to keep on reading. Henry hasn't read his story yet then quietly popped off with a plan in his mind.
Sheriff Magnus brought in a lawyer for David and Mary Margaret, Mr. Gold who is so adapt at contracts and knows he'll win their case.
"I have been following the details of your case, Mr. & Mrs. Nolan. I believe it is well-advised to bring me in as your counsel."
"What is your suggestion?"
He's going to persuade the judge to drop their charges but didn't voice it out loud at the front of the Sheriff. They wanted to use Mr. Gold influences, and he has strong influences in this town. They are officially screwed because Magnus hasn't yet found out the truth of Kathryn, so they have no other choice, but to hire Mr. Gold. He was ordered to give them privacy, so he was forced to leave the station temporarily.
Jim on the other hand has been seeing Dr. Hopper to help him remember then he opens his eyes, remembered yelling at Mary Margaret, "don't do it," begging her not to kill Kathryn. The real question is, is it his real memory, who knows.
The court date is nearing when David and Mary Margaret made their escape without Magnus' knowledge because the DNA of the heart is a match for Kathryn's, so that means they don't have any proof of their innocent.
Sheriff Magnus is even more determined to prove their innocent. He has taken a strong faith in himself and them that he'll find a way to prove their innocent, no matter how far it takes him. He has the passion to save his friends from their terrible fate.
