A/N: Told you there would be more XD I missed day 2 and 4 because I was sick DX, but day 3 was by far the funniest one for me to do, because 'Space Heroes'!
I OWN NOTHING!
Enjoy!
Space Heroes
The first time she saw it was when she was passing by the living room, on her way to the kitchen to grab a snack. At the time, her body had been on autopilot, and her mind had been solely focused on one thing and one thing only: food, glorious food. However, a sudden loud exclamation from the television startled her out of her ravenous thoughts and froze her in place.
"Mr. Crankshaw! Status report!"
Turning her head, Karai finally took notice of the T.V, bright and alive with the sound of dramatic explosions, unbearably cheesy acting, and crudely drawn cartoon humans and aliens alike bouncing across the screen. And oddly enough, there was only one person in the room actually paying attention to it, and it was the last person she would've thought would be interested in such a level of cheese…
Well, now that she thought of it, he wasn't the last person; Karai had known Leonardo and had listened to his painfully corny one-liners long enough to know that this sort of thing would be right up his alley.
Any other day, Karai would have scoffed and turned away. But the fact that Leonardo, the fiercely protective eldest brother and stoic leader of their team, was sitting on the floor, his knees hugged to his chest and a wide smile plastered on his face as he watched a show most likely aimed at children younger than him…it was oddly charming. Almost cute, and so unlike the Leo she'd thought she'd always known that it nearly threw her off. It was rare that she ever saw him engaged with something so trivial that made him so happy.
But what really hit her like a wrecking ball was what he did next, just as the other character, Mr. Crankshaw she remembered, answered the captain's command.
"Status?! I'll give you the status! We're gonna blow up in TWO SECONDS –!"
*SLAP!*
"Thank you, Captain."
"Gentlemen, I have a bold and daring plan!" Leo suddenly declared, echoing the captain exactly, even going so far as to lift his hand, holding up a commanding finger. "There's no time for hesitation! My orders must be carried out without question!"
"Aye, sir!" the crew members pledged.
And the smile the blue clad turtle wore told Karai, who was standing at the edge of the pit with her eyes wide and her mouth hung open in pure shock, that he was clearly imagining such a thing playing out in real life, where his followers viewed him as the answer to their prayers and followed his every command, 'without question'.
In all her years on this planet, it had never taken Karai so much effort to prevent herself from outright bursting into a fit of howling laughter as she scurried to the kitchen, her lips tightly pursed and her eyes watering as she held her breath. Oh, this was so golden, so freaking hilarious and stupid…
It was stupid. But it was mostly adorable, just to see him smile like that. It was a shame he wasn't like that more often, instead of the stick-in-the-mud big brother she was more or less used to seeing nowadays.
Who knew a T.V show could do that sort of thing?
It was later that night, whilst the seven of them (the turtles, April, Casey and Karai), had all journeyed to the surface for their evening patrol that they'd come across a Purple Dragon theft in progress. Their leader, Hun, was standing by the back entrance of the jewellery store on lookout as his men loaded up their crates with the expensive goods, his hands held calmly behind his back and his smile as crude and as confident as ever.
On the next rooftop where the ninjas kept their visual, Karai could feel the fire burning off Casey Jones as he glared down at the criminal. "Stupid sun glass-wearing punk!" he hissed under his breath. "I can't wait to shove my hockey stick straight up his –"
"Easy, tiger," Raphael muttered sardonically, patting his friend's shoulder. "You get first dibs on him once we get going, pinkie promise."
"Dude, you don't even have pinkies."
"Bite me, Jones."
"Don't tempt me, Raph."
Rolling her eyes and sighing at the ridiculous exchange between the boys, Karai turned to her left, where Leonardo stood with one foot poised atop the edge of the rooftop. She blinked hard as she stared at him. It was incredible how this turtle, whom she'd witnessed reciting the words of a television space captain, could suddenly attain a hard, resigned, calculating and near intimidating appearance in the face of their enemies.
That was the Leonardo she'd met that fateful night on the rooftop, the fierce warrior, the leader who always had a plan or a quick comeback to whatever taunts she'd thrown at him. Part of her believed that all of that was what had drawn her to him in the very beginning.
But that was only half of who he was. And though she didn't want to admit it, she was really starting to like that other half, as dorky and stupid as it was.
A playful smile stretched across her lips, and she turned to face the young leader. "So," she began casually, gaining Leo's attention as he turned to her. "What's the plan, Captain? Is it a bold and daring one?"
Everyone on the rooftop froze, six sets of eyes staring at her in a mixture of disbelief, and pure mortification. Leonardo's expression was by far the most priceless as his cheeks turned red.
Despite the urge to laugh growing stronger, Karai raised a brow and frowned at him, feigning annoyance as she planted her hands on her hips. "Well? The Purple Dragons are getting away, Leonardo; there's no time for hesitation," she continued. Leo continued to stare. Behind her, she could hear the others smirking so hard she was surprised they hadn't already burst out laughing.
Soon enough, a new confident smirk with a playful hitch Karai had hardly ever seen grew across Leo's face as he nodded, fists on his hips and his shoulders squared. "You are correct. And my orders must be carried out without question," he declared proudly.
At that, the side of Karai's mouth hitched up in a smile as she nodded her head once. "Aye, sir," she said. Now this was a side of Leo she could get very used to seeing. It was true that the sternness, the fierceness and determination was what had intrigued her, what she had admired of him for so long.
But it was the downright dorkiness that he'd hidden underneath all that which made her adore him.
"PFFFFFT! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" Raph and Casey howled with laughter, shortly followed by Donnie as they practically fell over one another, wiping tears from their eyes. On the other hand, Mikey and April gasped in delight, squeaking as they covered their mouths with their hands, gushing over how 'adorable' they were. For the first time, Karai couldn't find it in herself to be annoyed.
"Nerds! Y-You're all freaking nerds!" Donnie cackled, hanging onto Raph's arm to keep himself from falling to the roof. Leonardo pouted, folding his arms over his chest as a new blush tinted his cheeks.
"Hey, what was that?!"
"Look, up there!"
"Aw crap, it's the turtles!"
"What are you waiting for, you fools?! Destroy them!"
The laughter stopped, and all heads turned to look over the edge of the roof to find the four Dragons climbing up the fire escape, weapons in hand. With their cover ultimately blown, the turtles and the humans all turned to each other.
"To battle, Captain?" Karai mused, flicking out her new tanto blade with a practiced jerk of her wrist as she grinned at the blue masked turtle.
In response, ignoring the smirks that floated between the others watching them, Leo nodded with a light chuckle, reaching back to grab the hilts of his blades. "To battle," he affirmed with a grin that mirrored her own, unsheathing his Katanas before turning to face the Dragons, his team doing the same. Then, without further warning, they leapt head-first into the fray.
All the while, Karai couldn't help but smile to herself. If a corny T.V show quote was what it took to make the boy, whom she'd seen grow into a noble leader that she could feel proud to follow, smile brighter than the sun, then she supposed she could probably stand to watch a few episodes with him every so often. Probably.
After all, she did owe him that much…for in the space of a few years, he had made her smile, too. He'd made her happy in more ways than she could imagine. Now it was her turn to do the same. Even if it meant losing a bit of her dignity in the process.
A/N: This killed me XD I hope you enjoyed that, and more are on the way!
