Chapter 16: Welcome To The Fun House

It happened. Akina's dream, her nightmare, became reality. It started when she was in the middle of filing paperwork when Lightning burst from her office with that same old cold expression. The blond looked up from her papers with a shocked look within her crimson irises. "We've been called in" Lightning rasped.

Akina stood up and put her papers down and joining Lightning at the entance if PSICOM. "Ready for duty." Akina said with her hands on her hips and a smile on her face. Little did she know, that smile would die away very quickly.

"Where are we headed?" She asked as they fast walked towards Lightnings car.

"To the basement of someones house" Lightning said as she got into the drivers seat. Akina nodded, not entirely satisfied with the answer she got but she accepted it and got in the passengers seat. Once Lightning brought the car to life, Akina reached over to the radio and flipped it on. The rock version of Payphone flipped on at a low audio setting. Clearly not satisfied by the low music playing, she blasted it. Lightning looked over to Akina with a pissed look, but the blond ignored Lightnings deathglare. It was a "free country", she could play music as loud as she wanted to in this car weather Lighting haves fuck or not.

Lightning reached over to touch the audio dial, but it was slapped away by Akina. She was smirking and waved her finger followed by multiple "tsk"s. "My music" she mouthed. Lightning chuckled and rolled her eyes before pulling out of the parking lot and onto the street.

After a while, Akina grew bored with the music that was playing on the radio and found the dial for switching stations. She reached a station with a friendly tune playing. It only took a few moments to recognise what was playing. "The Wrong Direction" by Passenger. She wasnt happy at all when they favored one song of his, and then never gave a fuck about him after its popularity died away.

When they pulled into the street, Akina's attention snapped to the road ahead. This was her neighborhood once. Before her mother and father kicked her out. They parked behind numerous vehicles that probably shouldn't be there, but they were. People walked to where people were standing, but it was so crowded, she couldn't see the house the victim lived in. When she turned to where Lighting was (who was behind her when they walked from her car) no longer where she was.

Frustrated, Akina sighed and reached to her back- pocket to find a pack of smokes and a llighter. Her heart lifted slightly as she took one out, and lit it up. She breathed in a deep breath before exhaling a cloud of thick smoke. She smiled and pushed through the people who somewhat willingly parted for her. Another advantage to smoking.

When she got closer to the house, she still couldn't see it. Either the people in this neighborhood were too tall, or she was shorter than all . She was almost certain they were just all tall. A steel grip took a hold on her arm and pulled her into a binding grasp. She couldn't tell who it was at first, or what they were doing till her mind caught up to her bodies action. She was being hugged by someone. Then, her mind clicked.

"Kyo..." Akina said out loud by accident. The person hugging her let go and gave her a weak smile that was obviously fake. Kyo was slightly taller than Akina with a thick build and dark brown hair what was fixed in a flux hawk.

"How you holden up short stuff?" Kyo asked with a soft gaze. Akina gave him a look of annoyance. She stuck her cigarette back in her mouth for another cloud of smoke. She blew the dark cloud into his face and gave him an innocent smile.

"I'm just fine, dick head" Akina said with rot rotting on top of her words. Kyo gave her a worried look that concerned Akina slightly. The look in Kyo's green eyes was scary. His eyes were glazed over with what were tears. When she go a real good look at Kyo's face, it was the face of a person who bawled his eyes out just moments ago.

"Hey, look, I'm on duty. I gotta get to that damn house. If only I could see it..." Akina mumbled as she stood on her tippy toes and tried to look past peoples backs, necks, and heads. This greatly annoyed her."Can you get me up there?" She asked with her cigarette bouncing between her lips as she spoke.

"Y-yea... Sure" Kyo said before taking Akina's hand and pulled her past the large human beings. They were light giants to her (a foot and a half taller than her). Once she got to see a little bit of the house, her heart stopped. She slipped her hand from Kyo's grasp. She felt her hands push people aside and her pace quicken. Her mind slipped from her body as she felt a raging anger burn in her flaming irises.

"Move God dammnit!" Akina shouted. She heard Kyo call out her name, but she ignored it. She ducked under the police tape and pushed past the guards. "Stop her!" One of the guards shouted, pointing at Akina. She felt arms grabbing onto hers and pulling her back. She pulled an arm through and shoved an elbow into the guards face, but that didn't stop the other guards. Akina pushed through the door before being grabbed again by another guard. This time she pulled back a fist and slammed her knuckles into the guards nose. A cracking noise followed after her fist made contact with the guards face. "Fuck you!" She shouted and raced past her sister Yui who was burying her face in her fiancé's shoulder, and raced to the basement door.

She flung it open and glided down the railing of the stairwell. When she landed, she saw the crumpled up body of her mother who had been stripped and dissected by that damn so called "gentleman". A strong grip grabbed a hold around her waist that kept her from racing to her mother. The cigarette she had in her mouth was being comped on by her gritted teeth. She clawed at the arms the held onto her. She needed her mother, she wanted one last warm hug. The one she longed for the most.

"Mom!" Akina screamed. It was the scream of a girl who was in pain. This pain was not of physical pain, but of great emotional pain. This woman had raised Akina into what she was today. She loved her, but not as much as her own child loved her.

She hadn't quite realized that this person, who was holding her down, was bleeding from her scratches. She didn't know who it was. She was too focused on reaching her mother, she didn't look. When she couldn't bare to look at he insides of her dearest of mothers, she turned into the shoulder of the person who stopped her. This person was so warm, and soft. She needed this person more than that person realized. She felt so safe.

Once Akina calmed down she just continued holding onto this person. She gazed at her fingers which were covered in blood, their blood. She oepend her mouth to say something, but only air escaped her lungs. What would she say? Thank you? Sorry? Once the tears dried up on her cheeks, Akina sniffled, then let go of this person. When she backed up from this person, she suddenly realized why she felt the way she felt.

It was Lightning who protected her when she didn't want it the most. Akina's mouth opened to say something, but again, air. Nothing could come out if her lungs. She didn't want to talk anyway. She grabbed her cigarette from her mouth and examined it. Teeth marks covered the end part. She frowned and dropped it onto the cement and squishing it.

Akina turned around to see that her mother's corpse was covered and in a stretcher. She took this time to look at the crime scene. She sniffled as she felt a lump grow in the back of her throat. On the wall was something truly disturbing.

On the wall hung a painting of a family portrait. This was no ordinary portrait. It was made of blood with a blood splotch on her mothers face. The weird part was, was that it was very well painted. Her lunch threatened to escape her stomach. Akina felt a hand pull in her arm, turning her, and pulling her into another tight hug. It was Lightning again.

She dug her face into Lightnings neck as the tears started streaming once more. She hiccuped a few times as she again, held into Lighting as though she couldn't stand. "It will be ok" Lightning said in her ear. Akina nodded slightly, not wanting to say a word.

Eventually she might have to speak, but she didn't need to yet. Once the tears stopped again, Akina turned and walked up stairs, not uttering a word as she left. When she got to the top, her sister Yui waiting for her. Yui was a sobbing mess, and why her fiancè wasn't doing shit anymore, she didn't know. She pulled her sister in the same kind of hug Lightning gave her. The secure hold she had craved for.

As soon as Yui stopped, she looked up to her older sister, Akina. "I... I'll do the funeral arrangements with father. Y-you don't have to do anything" Yui said with trouble. It didn't sound like she was even speaking any language at all. Akina nodded with acceptance, still not whispering a word. Yui walked over to her fiancé and they took off to their place while Akina was still there. Her mind was on a lock down. She didn't speak, she wasn't paying attention, and hardly moved a muscle. Eventually Lighting walked up to Akina after taking care of her and Akina's duties.

"Come on. Lets go" Lighting said with the best tone she could summon up, but it came out not how she wanted it to. Akina didn't reply, but she grabbed Lightnings wrist and lifted up her sleeve. Blood coated her arms where the marks of her fingernails dipped into her skin. A pained look grew on her face. She felt bad enough for smashing in the noses of two guards. It just happened. Her violence tends to take over her body and set her mind a stray.

Akina let go of Lightnings wrist and avoided Lightning blue gaze. In a way, this too hurt Lighting. The one she really "liked" didn't want to look at her. The pink haired woman pulled down her sleeve and pulled Akina out of her childhood house. "Lets go" Lightning rasped. Akina's feet dragged as she got closer to Lightnings car. Many people left, and all that was left was a few people, and Kyo. Kyo approached Akina and Lightning. In his face was the expression of worry. He grabbed onto Akina's shoulder and looked into her eyes. All he could see was a distracted, mindless expression.

"Akina? Hey... short stuff. Are you ok?" Kyo asked. Lightning wasn't exactally happy-go-lucky about the face someone this attractive calling her Akina "Short Stuff".

"No, she's not in the greatest of moods" Lightning snapped, prying Akina from Kyo's grasp, and pulled her towards Lightning's car. She opened the door and let the blond into the passengers seat before walking over to the drivers seat.

They reached Akina's apartment in no time. Lightning emerged from the drivers seat, and walked over to open up Akina's door. The blond got out and looked more human than when she left her childhood house.

Lightning watched Akina the whole time they walked to her apartment. Akina unlocked the door, and invited Lightning in with a hand gesture, still no words. Lightning walked in and waited for Akina to close the door. A weak smile quivered at the edges of her mouth.

"Are you going to be ok alone?" Light asked with an eyebrow raised. 'No' Akina nodded. Akina's flaming eyes looked to her feet.

"Maybe I could move in for a couple of days to make sure you're ok" Lightning asked with the other eyebrow raising. Akina looked up, and nodded in agreement. Worry pooled into Lighting blue gaze. She wondered why Akina didn't talk.

The blond wanted to speak, but she couldn't. keeping her quiet. She didn't want to say anything, do anything, or be anything. She wanted nothing. She wanted darkness, sleep.

Akina slipped off her shoes and walked past Lightning and towards her small drab bedroom and flopped on the worlds most uncomfortable mattress. Lightning followed and leaned against the door frame to watch Akina try to sleep. Lightning made her way into Akina's bathroom and opened the medicine cabinet. There waiting for Lightning to grab was sleeping pills. She walked into the kitchen and filled a glass of water. She returned to Akina's bedroom and knocked in the door frame.

"Hey. Take some sleeping pills" Lightning advised. Akina sat up and watched a Lightning poured two pills from the cylinder container. Lightning walked over to her. She opened hand up and let the pills roll into Akina's grasp. She swollowed them quickly before snatching the glass and taking a few gulps of water.

Finally, Akina stood up and leaned up to kiss Lightnings cheek. Lightning blushed as she watched the blond slip into her blankets and drift to sleep. Lightning walked to the other side of the bed and laid next to the blond to watch her sleep peacefully. This made Lightning smile.
