Chapter 24: Trouble Everywhere
Renesmee's POV
After Amun left to search for Benjamin the rest of the coven left to get settled in.
"Well I see the Egyptians arrived" I said. It wasn't until I had spoken that Carlisle noticed my presence.
"Oh Nessie, I'm sorry I didn't mean to wake you" he said.
"It's okay, it was the doorbell that woke me up" I said.
"and EJ?" he asked.
"He's still sleeping soundly" I said.
"Okay, later I want to check him out again, and see how he's doing" he said.
"Why? Do you think that there is something wrong with him?" I started to get a little panicky for some reason.
"No he's fine, but I just think it's a little odd that all of them have been aging normally since they were born. They grew really fast in the womb and now they haven't aged at all. It's a little weird. Don't you think? Especially since two of them already phased" he said.
Huh, I never really thought about it, but now that I am thinking about it, it does seem kind of strange. "Yeah, it kind of does seem weird" I said.
"That's why I want to track their progress" he said.
"When do you think Jessica will be done with her transformation?" I asked. It seemed like it had been forever since I bit her and I was starting to wonder when she was going to wake up.
"I think it'll happen tonight or early tomorrow morning the latest. Her transformation is nearly complete" he said.
That was a relief.
EJ's crying interrupted anymore conversation. I decided to give him a bath after I fed him since it had been awhile since his last bath. He was rather reluctant to come out and nearly started protesting against it.
I had just sat down on the couch with EJ when Amun arrived with Benjamin. It sounded like they were arguing about something.
"Amun I already said it was an accident" Benjamin said.
"It was a rather stupid accident, that's what it was" Amun said.
Carlisle looked very worried by whatever it was that they were talking about.
"What happened?" he asked.
"When I found him almost the entire beach was flooded" Amun said. "North Shore beach to be exact" he added.
"What?!" shouted Carlisle.
"It was an accident" he said.
"Benjamin how can you let this happen?!" Carlisle shouted.
"I'm sorry, I was having fun and things just got a little out of control" he said.
"A little? Flooding a beach is not a 'little' out of control. Did anyone get hurt?" Carlisle said.
"Some people did get hurt, but nothing extremely dangerous" Benjamin said.
"Benjamin is also forgetting to mention all of the media that are there trying to figure out what happened" Amun said.
Carlisle was so upset that he actually broke the TV remote as he was attempting to switch it to one of our news stations. I grabbed the extra remote and switched it for him.
We watched as the reporter appeared on screen. The damage to the beach was pretty extensive, you'd think a tsunami hit it, which actually might not be far off.
"I cannot believe this" growled Carlisle. EJ got scared and started to cry as a result. Heck even I was starting to get scared of Carlisle. It was so weird to see him get this upset, he's usually so calm. I couldn't blame him for being upset, this is exactly the kind of attention that we don't want and something like this could easily end up on Good Morning America. It's not every day that a beach, particularly one as famous as North Shore, floods for no apparent reason after all.
"You are not allowed to go anywhere unsupervised now" was the last thing I heard before I took EJ back to our room thinking it was best to just leave Carlisle alone for now. Jacob was already patrolling the island with the rest of the pack so that just left EJ and I alone. We stayed in the room for a few hours where I started a marathon of all the vampire diaries episodes that I had missed. By the end I was ready to start screaming myself. I seriously just wanted to go into the damned show and kill Katherine and her daughter myself. The whole Katherine possessing Elena is just so stupid and frustrating.
EJ was content just to lay there right next to me most of the time. There were times when he wanted to be held. It was about three hours after we had left Carlisle in the living room that we heard from him again. He had calmed down considerably, although he still looked a bit irritated.
"You feeling okay?" I asked.
"I' fine. But Benjamin better stay away from me today or I might get upset again" he said.
"That's so unlike you to get upset. It must be really bad" I said.
"It's extremely bad. The media coverage just keeps getting more and more intense as no one can figure out what happened. All of the experts are completely baffled as well" he said.
"Anyways I'm here to check up on EJ if that's okay with you" he said.
"Yeah it's fine with me" he said.
"No momma" EJ said mentally. He looked scared now.
"It's okay baby" I rubbed him so he would calm down.
"He's going to need me there, he's kind of scared" I said to Carlisle.
"Okay, whatever makes him feel more comfortable" Carlisle said.
EJ was a bit relieved that he wasn't getting any shots this time around.
"Interesting" Carlisle said.
"What is it?" I asked.
"He has the genetics of a shape shifter, vampire, and human. It only makes this all the more confusing" he said.
"Well, I guess we'll just have to keep watching and see what happens" I said. I was happy that EJ hadn't had any sudden growth spurts since his birth. I wanted to enjoy him as a baby for as long as I could.
"I wonder how he would react to baby formula" Carlisle said.
"Why do you say that?" I asked.
"I'm just curious. Human babies drink it, and he has more wolf and human than vampire so I'm curious as to how he would react to it" he said. "If he has more human and wolf in him maybe that is what is slowing down his growth rate. This could be an indicator" he said.
"I can buy some and find out" I said.
"Yes, please do that" he said.
After that Carlisle disappeared. I wasn't sure where he had left to though, because he didn't say where he was going. It seemed like the whole house had been deserted now and now I wondered where everyone was.
I decided to go to Babies R Us because there were still a few things that I needed to buy for my son. The highest ticketed item would be a stroller. But I was also running dangerously low on diapers and I also wanted to buy him some new clothes and new toys. He didn't have much to play with here. I also apparently needed baby formula now.
There was so much stuff to choose from here. I gave him a blue rattle that I had found in one of the aisles, just to entertain the little guy. After a long time I was starting to regret giving him a raddle as he was having just a little too much fun with it.
As I was walking down one of the aisles I heard two people talking.
"Did you hear about what happened this morning at North Shore?" one of the guys asked.
"Dude, I was there" the other guy said.
"Really?" the first one asked.
"Yeah, it was so weird. Then there was this one guy, he looked like an Egyptian, it looked like he was trying to control the waves or something" he said.
Oh no, this is bad, Carlisle is not going to like this at all. That's all we need is for people to start jumping to all the right conclusions.
"Mommy I'm hungry" EJ said.
"Okay EJ, just give me a few minutes" I said to him. People looked at me like I was some sort of weirdo for talking to my baby. It probably does look strange from a normal person's point of view, especially since he wasn't even crying or in any kind of distress whatsoever.
I paid for all the stuff which totaled out to a whopping 600 dollars. I decided that now would be a good time to try out the baby formula. So I fixed him a bottle. It was only two seconds later after he started feeding that it ended up all over me. The disgust was plainly visible on his face.
"That stuff is yucky mommy! No more!" he mentally shouted.
"Okay, I guess you don't like baby formula" I said.
"No mommy, you're milk only" he said.
Well that was a huge waste of 50 dollars right there. Oh well, maybe one of the other babies can get some use from it.
It was still pretty early once I had fed him and changed into another shirt. So I took him to the beach. He was to young to go in the water but we could lay out on the sand for a while. Well he would be in his new stroller anyways.
"Can we go in the water?" he asked almost as soon as we got there.
"Sorry baby but you are too little" I said.
He looked kind of sad and heartbroken about that. But I think he had fun just watching everything that was happening. I continued to overhear more conversations about what happened at earlier. Some people were afraid to be here long because they thought another unexpected wave was going to hit this beach too, but of course I knew better.
EJ eventually fell asleep and so did I. When I woke up, right away I knew something was wrong. I looked in the stroller and I was panic struck when I saw that EJ was missing.
"My baby, where's my baby!" I screamed. This got the attention of several people nearby.
"What's wrong miss?" a kind looking lady asked me.
"My son's missing" I said. I was starting to get really scared now. I was so stupid to let myself fall asleep like that.
"I saw some ladies take him a while ago, but they said they were with you" she said.
"They lied, where did they go?!" I shouted.
"They were heading in that direction" she said.
I ran in the direction that she had pointed. By now several people were calling 911 to report a kidnapping.
After running for some time I heard him crying. It sounded like he was in pain.
"This damned creature won't shut up!" I heard one of them shout. I could see them now. I was getting closer. They were in an area that was pretty much deserted.
"Well knock him unconscious or something, just don't kill him. Why dad wants this thing is beyond me" the other girl said.
"Give me back my son" I said in a way that sounded extremely threatening.
"Sorry we can't do that. Our father is expecting him" she said.
" Who the hell are you and who is your father?" I asked. I was very angry now.
"I'm Serena and this is Maysun, our father is Joham" she said.
I hit her as hard as I could and took my son from her grasp.
The police had finally arrived by then.
"We got a report about a kidnapping" one of the officers said.
"Yes, these two attempted to take my son" he said.
I should have been relieved when they were taken away in handcuffs, but I knew that we were all in more danger now.
