Chapter 31: My Family
Nessie's POV
I was pretty much on bed rest for the rest of the day. Carlisle was still very annoyed with my attempt to lie to him about my health. He made me swear that I'd never lie to him again when it came to my health.
Jacob, well he was just being Jacob. He was being very caring, loving, and overprotective of me and EJ. He refused to let me even leave my bed. Not that I minded of course. I don't mind being taken care of when I'm sick. I was much more worried about Jacob getting sick though. If I could catch the illness what's to stop him from getting it?
"I still don't understand how I got sick" I said.
"I think I do" Carlisle said. "You've been under an enormous amount of stress lately thanks to the Volturi, Joham, and EJ's illness. When you're under a lot of stress for a long period of time you're much more likely to get sick" he explained.
"I just didn't think that I was capable of getting something like this" I said.
Carlisle sighed. "That's what I thought to. But now my guess is that since you're still half human you're still susceptible to human illnesses. It's just that your immune system is usually much stronger then it is right now" he said.
"I guess that makes sense" I said.
"I still don't like it Nessie" Jacob said. "I don't like seeing you or my son sick. It makes me nervous. I don't want anything to happen to you both" he said. "I can't imagine losing one of you, let alone both of you" he said.
I knew exactly how he felt. I felt the same way. I can't even stand the idea of losing Jacob and EJ let alone actually losing them. That's why it was essential for me to save EJ.
I just watched as Jacob did his best to take care of EJ. You could see it in his eyes just how much he loved his son.
"Nessie" Carlisle said.
"Yes gramps" I said.
"I'm going to give you some medicine. This is going to make you sleepy, but it should help you feel better" he said.
"Okay gramps" I said.
I took the medicine and within ten minutes I began to feel really sleepy. Within another five minutes I gave in fully to the medicine's affects.
I woke up a few hours later to the sound of EJ crying. I looked around and immediately panicked when I saw that no one else was there. Then I found on the nightstand.
Nessie if you wake up before I get back just know that I've gone to get more supplies and medicine and I'll be back soon. Jacob also thought that it was a good idea to run patrols around the area in case the Volturi decide to attack.
It was a relief to know why I was alone. For a second I thought that we were in the middle of another incident with the Volturi that I had no idea about.
I went over to EJ and immediately picked him up. He didn't feel hot so I didn't understand why he was fussy now.
"It's okay baby, it's okay" I said in a soothing voice. He wouldn't stop crying.
Then I was surprised when a new voice entered my head. "Mommy I'm hungry"
I started crying at the familiar voice in my head. I hadn't heard it in so long. I was getting worried that I'd never hear it again. I really hoped that this meant that he was getting better.
I took off my shirt and bra and right away he latched on and started sucking. It made me happy to see him eat. I just watched him as he continued to eat.
I felt a lot better after resting for so many hours, but I could still feel the remnants of a sore throat and I could also feel my temperature a little higher then normal. But, it was nothing at all compared to what I felt earlier I continued to cough though, and I knew that was really bad.
Once he was done I put my shirt and bra back on. My son finally seemed to be at peace.
I heard the door open slowly followed by a voice. "Oh Nessie you're awake" Carlisle said.
"Yeah, EJ was hungry so he woke me up" I said. EJ started to get a little more agitated for some reason.
"So did you get what you need?" I asked.
"Yes, now we should be good until the pack gets here tomorrow" he said.
EJ's agitation then turned into a cry. He held his arms out to Carlisle with his little hands grasping into fists again and again.
"I think he wants you" I said.
"He does?" he asked confused.
"It seems that way to me" I said.
Right as soon as Carlisle got him he calmed down. EJ then did something surprising. He smiled his first real smile at Carlisle. It actually made me a bit jealous. Carlisle smiled right back at him.
Carlisle looked like he was about to cry when he said "I love you too" to him.
"Did he talk to you?" I asked.
"Yes, he did" Carlisle answered.
Within a few minutes EJ fell asleep in his arms.
"I can't believe this little guy has gotten attached to me so fast" he said.
"I can. It's just the way you are. You're just a loveable person that really cares about other people; especially your family. It's easy to love someone like you" I said
Carlisle just smiled at me and then kissed EJ's forehead.
