AN: Life is a bitch. Sorry for the huge wait for a chapter that's under 1,000 words. I hate myself.

Song: It's in the first sentence, but it's "Let's Go" from The Cars (my favorite band)

Disclaimer: I don't own HTTYD

With "Let's Go" from The Cars blaring at full volume, it was quite fitting that we soared above the whole island of Berk within a minute or so. Thankfully, Phoenix's jagged horns were great to hang onto in order to keep me from falling off. I simply let Phoenix soar through the afternoon sky, holding onto his horns for dear life. Coming out over the ocean, I relaxed for the first time as Phoenix leveled out, letting the swift sea breeze carry us. I patted Phoenix's head, with him making a rumbling sound in response. I was truly at peace, closing my eyes as we made a slow loop around Berk. Coming down for a smooth landing, I saw Jack standing with a grin that lit up the area, while Hiccup just stood there, obviously in deep thought. Suddenly, Phoenix, still 50 feet in the air, suddenly altered his descent to a much steeper angle, swooping down towards the ground. As we soared over the clearing at a measly altitude of 5 feet, Phoenix once again let forth his signature cry, causing Hiccup to snap out of his reverie and dive to the ground, with Jack quickly following. Passing just over their heads, I started chuckling at Phoenix's blatant attempt to scare the crap out of the two boys. Phoenix circled back around, actually landing this time.

"I think Phoenix scared the shit out of me," Jack said with a slight quiver in his voice, glancing at Phoenix. I just continued to chuckle as Hiccup also got up off of the ground, still zoned out. Suddenly, he just took off, sprinting out of the clearing and racing towards Berk. "Well, I guess we should follow him, just to make sure that he doesn't blow something - or someone - up." I said, as the two of us began a silent exodus of the cove, trekking through the forest to get back. When we did get back, nothing and no one was blown up, and Hiccup was nowhere to be found, so we just went back to the house for lunch, which was the usual meal here: mutton, some small turnips, and bread. After that, Jack stayed to finish his shaving and cut his hair a bit, so I went down to the forge, where I suspected - and it turned out that there was - going to be a Hiccup working in there. I stepped into the cramped forge for the second time, working my way through the maze towards Hiccup's workshop-room, nestled in the back. I was about to open the door when I remembered my past experience. Acting on instinct, I stepped away from the door. Thankfully, not a second later, the door swung open, revealing a Hiccup with a truly scary fiery determination in his eyes. As he walked past, he shoved some paper into my chest, which I grabbed and unfolded in order to see it.

On it was some sort of triangular object surrounded by weird symbols, which I assumed were Nordic runes, the Norse way of writing. I stared at it, with all of the little details starting to appear. I still had no idea what it was though. Turning to Hiccup, I held up the schematics, saying, "What's this?" Hiccup just motioned for me to follow him, staying silent.

The next few hours were a blur. I would occasionally hand Hiccup tools when he asked for them, and pump on the bellows to keep the forge and furnaces hot. After a lot of sweat and time later, Hiccup finally straightened up, dropping his hammer and screwdriver, and picking up his creation. I had to sit back and simply admire Hiccup's creation.

A metal frame, in the shape of a triangle, covered with leather, was the result of both of our efforts. It was certainly a complicated piece of work, and I couldn't help but admire our handiwork as it was illuminated in the candlelight.

The next morning, we went back to the cove, Hiccup dragging along a basket of fish and the contraption. Toothless greeted us as we entered, bounding up to Hiccup. Phoenix, lazy as me, was still sound asleep. I went over and rubbed his head, with Phoenix finally waking up after a few seconds of rubbing. He made a sound awfully close to a cat's purr as he stretched and then clambered up onto his feet. A commotion jolted both of us into looking at Hiccup and Toothless. Toothless was on his heels, with his hackles raised, hissing at Hiccup, who was holding up a bright yellow eel. "I never liked eel, either," Hiccup commented, as he threw the eel into the water. As soon as he did, Toothless returned to normal, looking at us both with a curious expression, almost as if to say "What?".

'Eels scare dragons. Noted,' I though with some interest as Hiccup moved around Toothless, getting behind him. As Hiccup rustled around back there, my attention returned to Phoenix, who was looking at the fish dreamily. I walked over to the pile, intending to grab a fish for my buddy. Toothless raised his wings as I picked up a cod, though, and his pupils narrowed. I took this as a sign to not steal from Toothless' fish pile, as so I backed up slowly, dropping the cod. Toothless suddenly became a blur of movement, and I felt my feet leave the ground. My hands somehow finding Toothless' face, I held on for dear life as we soared across the clearing. For a few seconds, everything was smooth. Then, something went wrong. We went plummeting back down towards the lake, landing in a giant splash, before the three of us - Hiccup had apparently been hanging on the tail - surfaced again.

Phoenix began to snort in what I assumed was a laugher attack. I sighed. This was gonna be a long day.

AN: There it is. Once again, I hate myself, and I'm sorry. I hope you enjoy!
