Pleeeeease don't hate me. I'm really sorry for the long wait. I actually wanted this chapter to be typed up and done for you all before the Legend of Korra season two premiere, but it didn't happen that way. I hadn't had that much time to myself to type out my chapters like I wanted to. Um... so, a few other things, instead of just redoing a few chapters of 'Ordinary Day', I'm going to rewrite the whole thing. I decided that I was unhappy with it. I'm sorry. There will probably be similarities in the chapters, but it will be different, if only slightly. So it will be taken down later. I am going to rewrite the beginning of 'Protecting Those Against Us' because it sucks and it needs more explanation. My heads been buzzing with a new story for the last few days so I have to finish all this current stuff first. So I will try to finish this story and 'Rebels of Equality' as soon as I can and then work on my other projects. I'm trying to make more time for my stories between work and some other stuff. Updates should be more frequent...hopefully. I'll get better at updating faster. So...um...yeah...
I don't own anything. Any similarities to previous stories are completely accidental
Hearts On Fire
chapter twenty-one: Not quite as planned p.1
Tonraq's P.O.V
I stare at the boy in front of me, Mako, with a blank expression.
"...What..?" I ask dumbly
He noticeably swallows the lump in his throat before repeating himself, quietly, as if afraid of my reaction. Which he should be.
"Family emergency. Going home for the night." I say over my shoulder to the store owner before grabbing Mako's arm and dragging him out of the cafe. He gets into his car and I follow him to where my daughter is.
Not the least bit happy.
Mako's P.O.V
I make my way back to our neighborhood with Tonraq in his car behind me. I turn the last corner and park right in front of Korra's house. There's some weird guy leaving the house. He gets in his car and disappears down the street. Korra's mother must be home. That might make things a little harder.
There's a tap on the car window and I turn to see Tonraq. I get out of my car and point to two houses.
"That house right there is mine. This one is Korra's house."
He nods his head and stalks off angrily up to the door. I catch up and try to match his fast pace.
"What do you plan to do?"
"Put whoever's in there in a coma and get my daughter back."
I pull out my phone and quickly text Korra.
Where are you?
I locked myself in my room. My mom's hear and then Tarrlok showed up.
Pack your stuff and come down stairs asap
Why?
Just do it. We're getting you out of this house!
Who's 'we'?
I don't answer after that, but she keeps texting me.
Mako?
Mako, who's 'we'?
Fine, I'm coming.
As soon as we reach the door, it cracks open to reveal bright blue eyes. A small smile creeps across my face. She seems to be unharmed. I see her bag in her hand as she opens the door a bit wider.
"Mako, what are you doing here. You-" She stops mid sentence with wide eyes. She's noticed the person next to me on her front porch and is standing there in shock. Tonraq looks at her, some recognition in his eyes. He's finally seeing his daughter after so many years. I can't imagine what that's like.
"...Dad?"
A wide grin finds it's way onto his face. She opens the door wider and opens her mouth to say something else. Out of nowhere she is yanked backwards through the door and another face appears. A face I really wasn't in the mood to see. I just wanted to get Korra and go without any conflict and inevitable injuries. I don't know why I thought that was going to happen.
"Dammit." I mumble
Senna stands at the door glaring at us. She opens the door wider and there Tarrlok is with his creepy arm around Korra's shoulders. She shrugs off the offensive arm, but it somehow manages to keep finding it's way back around her. That arm is the first thing he'll lose when this is over.
"So what do we have here?" Senna sneers
"...Senna..."
"Tonraq."
"I want my daughter." Tonraq says sternly
"Well she doesn't want to go." She says
"That's a lie and you know it! She doesn't want to be here." I step forward.
"Come on Korra, we're leaving, right now." Her father says
Senna turns to Korra, arms crossed and a scowl on her face. "Do you really want to go with someone who left you for so many years?"
"You wouldn't let me take her with me! You made me leave and threatened to have me arrested." Tonraq counters
"Either way," Korra turns her glare on her mother "It's better than being stuck here with someone as cold and heartless as you." she says evenly
There is a silence followed by a loud smack and "How dare you disrespect her in that manner!" I rush through the door to get to Korra on the floor. As I help her up I look her over for the damage. Her lip is bleeding and swollen from the hit. Other than that she seems to be fine.
Tarrlok is dragged outside and thrown on the ground. Tonraq began his assault throwing punch after punch.
"Don't you ever touch her again!"
I run outside after making sure that Korra was okay. I yell trying to get Tonraq off of Tarrlok who has stopped any attempt at fighting back or struggling. I here noise coming from my house and look over to find a frantic Asami and Bolin.
"What's going on?" I'm not sure which one of them asks and I barely hear it over the current screaming and shouting of Korra and some other of the neighbors that have emerged from their homes. There are still some low grunts from Tarrlok every time the fist connects with his face, but other than that he doesn't respond. This isn't how everything was supposed to go. It should have been simple. Honestly I should have known better than that.
Korra bolts from the porch and is standing next to me. "Dad stop! It's over, just stop!"
By the time that's said, the police and an ambulance have already arrived. They handcuff Tonraq and lead him off to one of the cars. Paramedics make their way over to a groaning half conscious Tarrlok and place them on a stretcher. Two officers are on Korra's front porch, talking to Senna. All around me is complete chaos. My eyes finally land on Korra. Her eyes are teary and she looks lost. Doing the only thing I can thing to do, I hug her close to me. I didn't know what else to do. I didn't know what would happen next or how to fix any of this. I'm not sure how long we stood there before she was abruptly pulled away from me. I feel a cold metal clasp around my wrists. I'm being pushed towards one of the police vehicles in front of the house.
"What's going on?" I ask, confused
"Wait! He didn't do anything wrong!" I hear Korra shouting behind me
"M'am, please, calm down." an officer says to her
"Mako!"
Korra tries to move around the officer, but he holds her back. I'm pushed into the back of the car and the door closes. I look out of the window. Korra is still arguing and Bolin and Asami are watching the sight with horrified, confused eyes. Snapping out of a trance, they run over to Korra as the police officer walks away from her. I can't her her but I can't see that she's sobbing. She's still shouting what seems to be "Please" over and over. As the car starts my eyes meet hers. Asami and Bolin hug her tightly and they all watch as the car begins to pull off. I stare out of the window until I can't see them anymore.
So there you go. I hope it wasn't confusing in some places. Half way through this I got a headache, but I wanted to get this chapter for you all. So just to go over the beginning authors not again, 'Ordinary Day' and 'Protecting Those Against Us' will be taken down for rewriting and I will keep working on the other stories. I hope this chapter wasn't boring or stupid or whatever other horrible things it could be. I be updating soon!
Thanks:)
