Chapter Ten – Epilogue-

Sarah was a bit disappointed. No, she was extremely disappointed.

She kept pacing through her apartment, her arms crossed on her chest. Pymp was sitting on the arm of the couch, a glass of orange juice between his hands, his head turning right and left following his Lady's movements.

"One week" She whispered. "One week and nothing" She stopped abruptly in front of the window, staring at her reflection. "Don't worry precious, I'll be back before you can start missing me" she hit off. "Are you really so naive, Sarah Williams?!" She hit her head against the cold glass.

"Lady!" Pymp called, jumping off the couch. "No hurt yerself, please!"

Sarah smiled at the little goblin "Don't worry, Pymp. Do you want some cookies?"

Pymp nodded, still looking at her suspiciously.

They sat on the couch and Sarah turned on the television.

"Pymp" Sarah called after a while. "How is.. the King?"

Pymp looked up at her, his big eyes curious. "King? King's fine" And he turned his eyes back to the screen, biting his cookie.

Sarah wasn't satisfied with the answer. She kept looking at the little goblin, but his attention was all for the show.

"Pymp" She called again. "Has the King said something... About... His experience Aboveground?"

"No Lady" He answered, this time without looking at her. "King got back and said orders, and bogged some o' us. All is normal again"

Sarah felt a twinge going through her chest, and she curled up against one of the cushions.

So this is it then, she thought. A game, for him to prove his point, and once proved I am nothing but a stupid girl to leave behind. She felt her eyes burn with unshed tears, the very ones she had been holding back for the previous three nights, once it had become obvious that the Goblin King wasn't going to show up again very soon. Sarah bit her lip, turning her head so that Pymp could not see the silent tear that had escaped and was now rolling down her cheek. She felt stupid, and hurt.

Oh, it hurts so much.

It wasn't the first time that a guy had let her down. The gods only know how many nights she had spent crying herself to sleep over the sense of betrayal and self pity. But this, this was different. It was Jareth. After years battling her own emotions, her daydreams, she had lost all her dignity in a foolish wish and a couple of days dominated by her hormones.

She woke up an hour later, confused. She hadn't wanted to fall asleep, her neck hurt from the uncomfortable position she'd fallen asleep in. She sat up and massaged the aching muscles, looking around. It was dark outside, the only light came from the kitchen, and the television was turned off.

"Pymp?" She called, stretching her neck.

Suddenly her hand was pushed back, and two gloved ones started to gently massage her shoulders. She held back a moan and closed her eyes, taking deep breaths. Her heart started racing.

"Took you long enough to ask about me, precious" He whispered in her ear.

Sarah shivered. "Took you long enough to show up again" She bit back, repressing the need to scream at him, angry for how foolish he had made her feel.

Jareth chuckled and kissed the back of her neck, his hands encircling her waist.

Sarah turned abruptly and stood up, shaking him off her. "Are you going to disappear and show up days later without a word every time?" She crossed her arms on her chest.

Jareth appeared in front of her, his hands on her hips, a grin spreading on his face. "Why, precious, did you miss me?"

Sarah snorted very unladylike "You wish".

Jareth's grin widened "Oh, precious, you have no idea what I wish" he bent over, his lips brushing Sarah's, but she pulled away and took three steps back. "Oh, I bet I know exactly the nature of your dreams, Gobin King. And let me tell you, dreams they will remain, as far as I'm concerned." She started to walk towards the kitchen, determined not to give up to him too soon. She knew eventually he would win her over again, but it was all to new and incredible to her, she couldn't let him play with her emotion like that.

"Sarah" Jareth's tone had lost all trace of humor now. He stood behind her as she put the filled the kettle with water and put it on the stove.

"Sarah" he called again.

"What"

"Why are you so angry?"

Sarah let out a bitter laugh. "Are you seriously asking me that, Jareth? Oh, how little you know about human nature!" she turned and faced him. "Do you have any idea how humiliating it was for me, thinking that what happened between us was nothing but another one of your tricks?" Tears started streaming down her face. "I don't even know where this can possibly go, but it would be nice to know that at least you care"

Jareth couldn't be more shocked. "Sarah" he started, voice low and soothing. "Precious, you have clearly misunderstood my actions. It is true that I haven't been in touch with you for far too long, and I apologize for it, but I am a king, and you have no idea of the mess that those foolish creatures have been able to create while I was gone". He took a step closer to her, his hands reaching out in a gesture of peace-offering, gloveless. "Sarah, after all we have been through, can you really think that I would chase you for years, trying desperately to make you call my name, only to trick you into a stupid game?" she let him took her hands in his. "I love you, Sarah. I have loved you since I first saw you role playing in that park, so fierce and passionate" he pulled her towards him, wrapping his arms around her shaking body. "It took me so long to finally be able to reach you and court you, and I will never let you go again, Sarah Williams" he lowered his head until their lips were inches away, leaving her space and time to pull away. "I am yours, now and forever".

Sarah felt one final tear roll down her cheek, and she raised her head to meet his mouth, losing herself in the warmth of his Jareth's body.
