Okay firstly, I am so sorry about not updating for ages- there's just been so much homework and essays and revision...
Thanks so much for the reviews and follows and stuff- you guys are the BEST! :)
Anyway, hope you enjoy! :D
Disclaimer: Havent done one in ages, oops! Anyway, everyone knows that all the characters in this belong to Cassie Clare!
"So? Can I see him?" Magnus asked again.
"I'm not sure that'll be a good idea," said Brother Zachariah carefully.
"Why? I can deal with it! You said that he may not have emotions sometimes! He'll be fine! I can deal with it!" he repeated, trying to convince himself.
He looked up at Brother Zachariah.
He sighed. "I warned you," he said, with a touch of unidentifiable emotion in his voice. If Magnus didn't know better, he would've thought that it was pity...
Magnus pushed open the door and his senses were immediately hit with Alec. The room smelt like him, his Shadowhunter scent. Magnus' mind flashed back to when he had first smelt that.
Magnus walked through the crowd, the party going full on. Suddenly, the bell rang.
Magnus walked to the door, impatiently, wanting to get back to the party. The bell rang again.
Magnus reached the door just as he heard a voice say 'Don't be rude' from outside.
He opened the door, saving his poor bell from being jabbed again- and saw a group of Nephilim. He looked curiously at them, while they got over their shock. Blond boy, arrogant; black haired girl, confident; the red-headed girl, h- Clary Fray?! He dismissed his shock and arranged his face back into a neutral position. He could think about that later. The boy standing next to her, geeky and harmless.
And then his eyes rested on the final Shadowhunter.
Long eyelashes, black hair so dark it was almost blue. Tall, slender but muscled.
As if sensing that he was being watched, the boy looked up- and Magnus' breath caught in his throat. Blue eyes. So, so blue. Magnus drank him in and he could tell that the boy was doing the same.
Could he be-? No, Magnus thought. But-
The black-haired girl spoke and Magnus dragged his eyes away from the boy. He plastered his customary grin on and spoke- the boy watching him all the while.
Magnus returned to the present. He walked into Alec's room, the memory still vivid in his mind.
Immediately, he saw Alec, lying against the bed, looking frustrated. He looked exactly how Magnus remembered. But he knew that that wasn't what counted any more.
"Alec?" Magnus said. It came out as a question- he had no idea why.
The head whipped around and landed on Magnus. The blue eyes slowly travelled over Magnus- the sensation making him feeling like he was on fire but somehow uncomfortable too. But it wasn't like this hadn't happened before.
The gaze travelled up his body and their eyes met. Magnus' heart leapt. Alec's eyes burned with an intensity he had never seen before, making it impossible for Magnus to tear his gaze away. They looked at each other, eyes saying what their hearts couldn't.
Magnus grinned, a huge grin of relief. He almost skipped to Alec, but sat down gently at the last minute. They were wrong! Alec wasn't gone!
Alec smiled too, an Alec smile, full of love and happiness.
As if this boy could lose his emotions, thought Magnus.
"Magnus?" Alec said. His voice sounded like it hadn't been used for days.
Magnus smiled and gently pushed Alec's fringe off his forehead. "Yes, darling?"
"What happened?"
Magnus hesitated. He didn't want to shock Alec so soon after his recovery.
Alec caught the look and sighed. "Magnus, you can't protect me forever. It probably wasn't that bad?" The last part was a question.
Magnus decided to tell him, but in as little detail as possible. "You were kidnapped, we both were. Someone... put you through a lot of pain. And I helped you and got you here, and then you passed out. You've been unconscious for a day."
"How did you save me?" Alec asked. "If you were kidnapped too, I mean?"
"Magnus Bane, High Warlock of Brooklyn, not being able to escape from a chair?" Magnus joked, and waited for Alec's eyes to light up with the laughter he usually kept hidden inside himself.
Instead, Alec leapt off the bed and ran to the other side of the room faster than Magnus had ever seen.
"Stay away from me, do you hear?! Stay away from me, you filthy Downworlder!" Alec said.
Magnus recoiled as if he had been slapped. But Alec's verbal assault didn't end there.
"What were you doing, touching me? Looking at me like that? Like you knew me, like you cared?! What makes you think that I would respond, that I CARE about you?!"
Magnus felt his heart shatter again.
Damn, twice in the space of a year, the person he pretended to be thought.
The real him broke inside. How could Alec say that? Magnus knew what he had let himself in for when he had walked through that door but the reality shocked him. Alec, his Alec. He was so, gentle. But what shocked Magnus most was the way he had said that. Cold. Stoic. Emotionless. He was saying words that should have been screamed, calmly, quietly. Magnus could deal with anger, with fear, with disgust for God's sake! But said like that!? Magnus' heart shattered, as he thought of whether he could ever get Alec back.
He remembered those moments when they had first met, the instant chemistry. He couldn't lose that. He couldn't lose the moments where they sat in Magnus' apartment, Alec's head resting on his lap, his hand stroking that silky hair. How those blue eyes would look up at him and Magnus would be transported to a different universe, lost in those endless depths. The things they had got through, the things that they could get through.
Moments that made up Alec flashed through Magnus' mind and he resolved:
This would not end here, not now. He would do anything to help Alec.
Magnus looked up, just as a book slammed into his nose and he blacked out.
Magnus opened his eyes- and immediately winced at the sharp pain in his nose. He sat up and saw Brother Zachariah, standing next to him.
"I told you you couldn't handle it," the Silent Brother said.
"You did not predict that my boyfriend would throw a book at my nose!" Magnus said.
"Magnus. You don't have to pretend with me," Brother Zachariah said.
His eyes filled with tears which he immediately blinked away. Magnus fell through time, remembering the boy with silver hair and eyes. The sweet smile, the kindness. The sweet to Will's sour. Perfect parabatai. The drug. The addiction. The eventual death- or so they had thought. When Jem came back as a Silent Brother, Magnus could not have been more surprised. And then he remembered Tessa.
"Je- I mean Brother Zachariah. There's something I have to say," Magnus said and told him.
"Tessa? My Tessa? But why? I sensed something familiar when I was looking at the boy but I thought I sensed your magic. But Tessa?" Brother Zachariah was shocked- you could tell. His normally calm, controlled voice in Magnus' head, was shaking.
"Where is she? What happened to her? When I last saw her she-"
He paused at Magnus' questioning look. "It doesn't matter." But he was thinking.
"Magnus," he said, after a long silence. "There is something we can do. For Alec. When I was- when I was dying, I met some people, who I thought could help me. Warlocks, Werewolves, Fey, Vampires. But I met a vampire; one I think you know. Camille Belcourt. Blond hair, pale skin, red lips, big-" If Silent Brothers could blush, that was it. Brother Zachariah coughed and carried on. "I think you know her. Anyway, she offered to help me. She told me about something, Magnus. Spells. Things that I have never seen before. Everything you could ever want was there. And she knew it all. I know you two used to be... involved... so you could ask her. She would want something in return of course, but what price wouldn't you pay for your love?"
"Dammit! Damn!" Magnus yelled.
"Magnus?"
"Slight problem. She's dead."
