Chapter 107

On Friday October 12th Lindsay had been invited to a very important dinner. It was at a very exclusive and expensive restaurant. The other guests were Holland Manners, Lindsay's superior at Wolfram and Hart, and Lilah Morgan, Richard Wilkins' running mate. Lilah didn't say much, but clearly enjoyed being Lindsay's superior. Lindsay knew this dinner meeting was about his handling of the Winters' situation. As a child Lindsay dreamed of places like this. When his family lost their home, his father desperate enough to clean the house for the next owners for a few hundred bucks, Lindsay swore to himself he would never be stepped on like that. He would be the one with power, not powerless. Coming to places like this, without a thought to how much the food cost, Lindsay felt he' made it. But he also feared Holland's anger, that was why he wasn't bringing his girlfriend Eve. The three of them discussed matters over dinner and cigars.

Lindsay: It's nice to see both of you again.

Lilah: I'm impressed that you survived the Russell Winters ordeal, so far.

Lindsay: Thank you, madam vice-president.

Holand: Russell Winters was a valuable client to the firm. His death is a loss.

Lindsay: Yes sir. But there was no way to avoid a conviction. The virus would've destroyed company personel, and clients.

Holland: That is true. Winters would've died anyway, and taken many of our resources down with him. Sometimes we have to just cut our losses, and move on. Lilah, in your honest opinion, could Lindsay have done anything differently to ger Mr. Winters acquitted?

Lilah: No, not that I can see.

Holland: Very well. Given the situation then, it seems you did quite well. You protected company assets and even got on good terms with a potential slayer and her group. That relationship could prove quite useful.

Lindsay: Thank you sir.

Holland: That said I suggest you develop your skills in the courtroom further. Because, right or wrong, if you continue to be unable to get clients acquitted the senior partners will likely blame you. If that happens Lindsay, you won't like their reaction.
