Chapter 120
Faith spent much of Wednesday October 16th in preperation for the debate. The reporter would attempt to ask her questions and Faith was expected to be on stage for the final moments with all three candidates and their families. Faith and Edna Mae had to look presentable and talk right to the reporters. Faith tried not to think about her life, that was never good. She sometimes wondered if she was born for violence. Faith was descended from the first slayer and the first vampire. A more immediate ancestor, her father, was a rapist. Faith viewed him not as a role model but as a cautionary tale about the dangers of using illegal drugs. Faith was concieved from this violence. Her mother gave Faith up for adoption the day she was born. Faith bounced around the foster system, having a number of abusive, unworthy parents. She became strong, had to fight to survive. These experiences left Faith with serious anger issues. Unable to control them she soon ended up in juvenile hall. It was in here that Faith first learned about her destiny. The Watchers arranged her release, in exchange for her performing her slayer duties. Faith was 16 when she became a slayer. During this time Faith found her biological parents. Neither wanted anything to do with her. To her own mother Faith was nothing more than the bastard spawn of her rapist. The Watchers used Faith to do the work they couldn't do. They trained Faith to be a weapon, pointed at their enemies. They ordered Faith to stop Wilkins' plans for ascension. Instead Faith defected. She was still exacty the person the watchers made her into, she merely switched sides. But the ascension failed, now Wilkins was running for president. Faith loved Richard and Edna Mae Wilkins, and they loved her, at least as much as people such as themselves were capable of love. Ofcourse Wilkins made Faith do his dirty work from time to time. But unlike the watchers Wilkins didn't pretend it was for some noble purpose, he wanted power. Faith had done okay for herself. A trusted operative with money, power, and who genuinly cared about her. Faith's experiences taught her that this likely wouldn't last forever. She intended to enjoy it while it lasted.
