Amongst those who watched the final presidential debate was Patricia Turner. Patricia was a congressional candidate, she had her own debate next week. She was a wife, mother of two, and a school teacher. If elected Patricia Turner would become the first Wiccan ever elected to congress. Patricia's conservative opponent was using her religion against her, calling wicca devil-worship. But she fought on, if she lost that was one thing, but she refused to let bigotry force her out of the race. Patricia Turner was supported by a local college wicca group, some called them a bunch of "Wanna blessed bes" her opponent was backed by a new group called MOO. Patricia believed she had the better ideas regarding education and healthcare. She'd been attracted to neo-paganism as a teenager because of it's emphasis on peace and equality between the sexes. If she won it could help others like herself, young neo-pagans who felt alienated by the conventional religious institutions. If not, she would at least go down fighting.
