Chapter 128
Joyce thought about Buffy and Dawn's respective halloween plans. Buffy and/or Joyce usually took Dawn trick-or-treating. At the age of 14 Dawn still considered herself young enough to do this but old enough to go with Steven, not her mother or sister. Joyce trusted Steven, but lately had become wary of halloween. Buffy wanted to go to a party with friends. This party was being held at Sunnydale High. Principal Wood decided that this party could provide teens with a safe environment, certainly better than the more dangerous halloween activities. Joyce knew Buffy was going with Xander, Willow, Jessie, Tara, Cordelia, and Oz. She assumed there would be other teens at the party, and had assurances of adult supervision. This party involved going through a haunted house to get to the party. The first level of the haunted house had candy for trick-or-treaters. Joyce might've preferred putting Dawn and Buffy in a convent, or at least them staying in with her this halloween watching the old Universal monster movies on Turner Classic Movies. But she knew that her daughters had to live their own lives. And as far as boys were concerned, Joyce thought that Xander and Steven were trustworthy.
