Chapter 134
Tara didn't understand. She had just gone into the "haunted house" with her friends. But they were suddenly gone, what just happenned? Tara saw the cat, a reminder what she could become. Tara heard the voice. "Tara, weak little Tara. So desperate to be loved, to escape the pain, she became a cat, an alley cat no less. They'll reject you when they learn what you are. You'll never find love, because you don't deserve love."

Oz had feared this change, had resisted for so long. He'd been bitten, but his medication was suppossed to prevent it. But now it was coming, Oz was about to become a werewolf. It didn't make sense, tonight wasn't even a full moon. As long as Oz took this special medication before the first transformation it could prevent him from fully turning. He'd broken up with Willow partly because Oz feared what he could become. Then Oz saw something unusual, Veruca was transforming into a werewolf as well. No wonder he was so drawn to her.

Cordelia saw Oz and Veruca changing into furry growling monsters. Tara was whimpering in the corner. Cordelia quickly looked for the exit. Then she heard it. It sounded like a baby crying, but where was it coming from? Cordelia felt torn. If some child was trapped here Cordelia didn't want it ripped apart by beasts. But then Cordelia didn't want to be ripped apart herself. Then she heard the voice. 'You don't care. One child, two children. You killed your own, why care about this one? You have no heart."

Buffy didn't know what was happenning. They had just gone into the haunted house. After all Buffy had seen this last two months the silliness of halloween didn't seem scary. She lived in an actual haunted house, this was her school with cheap decorations. But Cordelia and Tara were whimpering on the floor, Oz and Veruca were turning into monsters, possibly werewolves. This was another trap. Whatever evil was after her was at it again. Giles had said that most monsters stayed in on halloween, clearly he had been wrong. Buffy was ready to fight Oz and Veruca. Knock them unconsciouss, at least until they became human again. Then Buffy saw Dawn. She must've come to the party after all. Buffy tried telling Dawn to run, but she couldn't speak. Nor could Buffy even move. But she was forced to watch, as the beasts ripped Dawn apart. Buffy could hear Dawn scream for her life, calling for Buffy, asking why Buffy wasn't helping her. Buffy heard another voice. "You can't protect her you know. No matter how hard you fight, the people you love will always pay the price. Before this is over you will watch them die."
