Chapter 28 Firefight

In the Land of the Dead Death was sitting in his palace looking at a large screen that showed the heroes making their way through Hexo's lair. Linda, Hunson, Billy, Leon, James, and Ansem were watching the heroes the screen to.
"Hey Death why is it that you can't join my daughter and her friends in battle?" Asked Hunson.
Death let out a sigh.
"As much as I would want to fight alongside them, it is against the Universe's rule. You see there is this cosmic balance that must be maintained. There are some situations I'm allowed to help out and there are others that I can't interfere with. When Hexo tried to kill the heroes at the ice fortress, I was allowed to help because in a way Hexo was cheating. In this case the playing field is even and I can not interfere." Explained Death.
"I guess that makes since." Said Hunson.
"Relax dear Marceline is stronger then she looks and she has all her friends to look after her. I have no doubt that she will succeed." Said Linda as she put a hand on Hunson's shoulder and kissed him.
"Thanks Linda." Said Hunson with a smile.
"It looks like the heroes are going to fix their first opponent." Said Billy.
Everyone turned to the screen as the heroes entered a large room.
The heroes entered a large room and looked around trying to see if their were any enemies hanging around. Suddenly a bunch of torches flickered to life lighting the room up. The heroes looked around confused. None of them notice a cloud of dark smoke rise up from the ground behind them and transform into Scorcher. The flame assassin charged forward his hand catching on fire as he struck at the heroes with his flaming arm. Flame Princess heard the attack coming and knocked Finn and Jake to the ground. Simon and Marceline were hit by the attack and knocked to the ground with burn marks on their body. Marceline looked over at Simon, who moaned in pain, she turned to Scorcher and let out an angry roar.
"How dare you hurt Simon!" She roared as she charged towards Scorcher.
Scorcher's arms burned with flames as he swung them at Marceline. The vampire dodged the blows and grabbed Scorcher's midsection picking up with her super strength. Scorcher felt like a bunch of burning hot coals on Marceline's skin, she gritted her teeth, spun around, and hurled Scorcher at a nearby pillar smashing him into it. Marceline pulled out her ax and charged forward raising it over her head ready to bring it down on Scorcher's head! At the last moment Scorcher turned into smoke and escaped the attack. Marceline looked around confused as Scorcher appeared behind her ready to attack her.
"Marecline look out!" Cried Finn.
Marceline turned around and saw Scorcher swinging his flaming fist down at her. Before the blow could be struck a burst of ice magic slammed into Scorcher and sent him crashing into a wall. Marceline turned to see Simon standing, with an angry look in his eyes as he approached Scorcher.
"Don't you lay a hand on my daughter you FLAMING SICKO!" Roared Simon as he started to bombard Scorcher with hail and hurricane force winds.
Scorcher's arms burned, with fire as he tried to fend off the onslaught of ice, but he was no match for Simon's wraith and he was soon buried underneath a large mound of ice. Simon breathed hard as he surveyed his work. The other heroes approached him.
"Whoa! You totally creamed that guy!" Exclaimed Finn.
"I guess I did." Said Simon as he turned to Marceline. "Are you alright?"
"I'm fine. I'm just a little burnt. That's all." Said Marceline.
"Here this should help cool you down." Said Simon as he conjured up some ice and gave to Marceline to help her wounds.
"Thanks...your always looking out for me." Said Marceline as she smiled and took the ice.
"Of courses. Your my daughter after all." Said Simon with a smile.
Just then the ice mound started steaming and Scorcher burst out from it looking furious. The wrappings that covered his mouth were gone revealing a mouth of needle sharp teeth and a forked tongue. The assassin's hands were now twisted looking claws.
"Yikes and I thought this guy was already creepy!" Said Jake.
"Here take these. I have a feeling were going to need them for this fight." Said Simon as he created ice gauntlets for Finn, Jake, and Marceline.
The heroes and Scorcher charged at one another. Marceline threw a punch at Scorcher, but he dodged it and slashed forward with a flaming claw. Marceline barely dodged it and slammed a fist into Scorcher's face. The ice gauntlet melted on impact with Scorcher's face. Marceline's eyes widened in shock, before Scorcher kicked her and sent her crashing into a wall on the far side of the room with a foot print burned into her chest.
"Marceline!" Cried all the heroes.
Jake went over to help her, but Scorcher fired a fireball and smashed Jake into the wall next to Marceline. Simon let out an angry roar and fired a blast of ice at Scorcher. The ice melted before it could reach the assassin. Scorcher fired a fireball at Simon and sent him crashing to the ground.
"You JERK! Stop hurting my friends!" Roared Flame Princess as she blasted Scorcher with a blast of fire.
Scorcher was not affected by the attack at all, he walked through the attack towards a startled Flame Princess. Scorcher raised a flaming claw to strike the young hero, but Finn charged in from the side and delivered a powerful punch from the side sending the assassin flying to the ground. Flame Princess watched as Finn charged at Scorcher only to be knocked to the ground by a flaming claw. Scorcher stood up forming some fire into a knife as he prepared to stab Finn. Flame Princess felt a wave of energy course through her veins.
"Get away from him!" She roared as her flames turned gold and she fired a golden fireball at Scorcher knocking him away from Finn.
The assassin got up with a look of murder in his eyes as he glared at the golden Flame Princess. Scorcher put his hands together and created a giant ball of dark red fire and hurled it at Flame Princess.
"I'm not going let you hurt anyone every again! This ends now!" Shouted Flame Princess as the flames around her transformed into a giant Phoenix and charged forward.
The Phoenix smashed through the fireball and raced towards the assassin. The normally calm assassin had a look of fear on his face as the Phoenix slammed into him. Scorcher opened his mouth and let out a silent scream as his body ripped to pieces and destroyed.
Flame Princess landed on the ground and went about healing her friends, she healed Finn last.
"That's was pretty awesome. Thanks for saving me." Said Finn.
"Hey I was just returning the favor, after all you saved me." Said Flame Princess.
The two of them smiled and kissed one another.
"Alright everyone lets keep moving." Said Finn.
The heroes nodded and marched out of the room.
