Chapter 138

With less than a week until the election Patricia Turner's race was getting some national attention. Both MOO and the local college Wicca group put editorials in the local newspaper. For MOO it was less about their chosen candidate and more about beating the witch. Many members couldn't even remember their candidate's name.

"We are witnessing the death of our American way of life. We used to be a Christian nation that punished gambling, homosexuality, and loan sharking. Now homosexuality is considered a constitutional right, gambling brings in too much revenue to be outlawed, and loan sharking is done more by the legitimate credit companies than by the Corleones. Every crack-pot new age cult is accepted, but Christians can't pray in public areas, as evidenced by the war on christmas. An admitted witch may soon be our representative in congress. This is a religion that encourages homosexual conduct, opposses military service, and seeks to destroy capitalism. We encourage all true patriots to vote against Patricia Turner on election day. Our way of life, and your very souls, may depend on it."

.

"This was suppossed to be an election about the relevant issues for one of 435 seats in the house of representatives. But narrow minded bigots have made it an issue of freedom versus oppression. So mote it be. Let us prove that America can live up to its own constitution, let the ideal of freedom of religion persevere. We do not seek to prevent christians from practicing their religion freely, we merely ask for the same courtesy from them. Let us show that monotheists and polytheists can peacefully coexist. And this can be a victory that will long outlive Patricia Turner's tenure in congress.
