Chapter 13
More than Friends?
"I can't believe this!" Dawn said to no in particular while circling around in her room. It was as if Misty had planned to snatch all the memorable times she was going to have with Ash. She had felt left out and more importantly ever since she came, she had been flirting with him nonstop. This put a warm dark and depressing feeling in her heart. How could Misty do this? It certainly wasn't fair.
"Dawn?" A familiar voice called out.
"Zoey!" Dawn gasped as she ran up to hug her.
"What's wrong? You look upset." Zoey said.
"Yea. I-I'm not feeling too well." Dawn said.
"Dawn, are you Ok? Tell me what's going on." Zoey insisted.
"Ok. I will. Ash's friends arrived from Kanto today this morning and this freaky orange hair girl is taking precious time away from me and Ash. I hate when I feel left out! I just hate it!" Dawn told her.
"Oh well I'm-" Zoey was interrupted.
"But there's this guy, Brock, who's really nice and funny, especially when he's around girls, and more importantly, he doesn't try to take Ash away from me!" Dawn continued.
"That's great but-" Zoey was interrupted again.
"But Misty, Misty out of ALL people just had to go and ruin my day and flirt with Ash! Misty likes Ash. Ughh, but hopefully, Ash doesn't like her, cuz I really don't see anything great about her." Dawn said.
"Ok! Will you let me talk now?" Zoey asked.
"Oh, sorry about that! When I get angry, I keep on talking a lot." Dawn snickered.
"Dawn, if Misty likes Ash, then you should encourage that!" Zoey said to Dawn.
"What! Are you mad? Ash doesn't deserve someone like her. He deserves someone way better than that!" Dawn puffed.
"Like who?" Zoey asked.
"Like me!" Dawn blurted out. She gasped and wished she could take it back. What did she just say? And why? To her unlikeness, Zoey was widely grinning at her.
"Aha! So that's the problem! You're jealous." Zoey smiled. Dawn gasped.
"No I'm not. What I meant was, that you know, Ash deserves someone as beautiful, as smart, and a better girl, somewhat like me. I didn't necessarily mean me." Dawn clarified.
"Sure, Dawn, sure." Zoey said sarcastically
"Don't give me that tone! Stop being sarcastic." Dawn said.
"Well, Dawn, stop denying that you like Ash. Everyone knows you like Ash. Why don't you just accept it?" Zoey pointed out.
"Because I consider Ash as my friend and friend only." Dawn said. "And trust me, the only reason I'm mad right now is because I feel left out." Dawn said.
"Alright, Dawn. Whatever you have t say." Zoey said.
"Thanks. I'll see you later. I'm gonna try and see what's up with those lovebirds." Dawn said as she walked away.
"Got it?" Brock asked.
"Got it!" Ash and Misty said unanimously. "Are you sure this will work, Brock?" Ash asked.
"Of course it will. Trust me." Brock said.
"Yea, don't worry, Ash. Dawn will be all over you after this. I know how much you like her." Misty said.
"Yea." Ash blushed at that remark. "Guys, thanks again so much for doing this. It really means a lot." Ash smiled.
"Ash, you're truly welcome." Misty said.
"No problem, buddy." Brock marked.
Suddenly, a knock went pounding on the door. Everyone gasped. They looked at each other in confusion but was relieved when a second knock went followed by Dawn's voice.
"Ash, Misty, Brock, are you in here?" Dawn asked. She wondered what was going on.
"Ok, guys, remember, stick to the plan." Brock whispered. They both replied with a nod. Brock went and opened the door.
"Oh, hey, Dawn! How's it going?" He said casually, with an arm on the wall.
"Where's Misty and Ash? I wanna talk to them." Dawn said.
"They're in here." Brock pointed inside and made way to let Dawn inside. Dawn's eyes widened as she saw the scene in front of her.
"Ok, Misty you play like this, see?" Ash said as he as holding the pool stick and Misty's hand on top and had his chin on her shoulder in a flirty pretext of showing her how to play. Misty was smiling. Dawn became furious. Why was she getting furious?
The stick hit the ball into the hole and they both smiled at each other. "Got it?" Ash asked.
"Hmmm, I dunno, maybe you could show me again?" Misty asked, grinning. Before Ash could grab the stick again…
"Hey!" Dawn called to get their attention. They both turned around to see Dawn's furious face.
"What's up, Dawn?" Misty asked.
"Don't you dare 'what up' me!" Dawn told her.
"Why? What's wrong?" Misty asked.
"Oh, look at you! Stop pretending! As if you don't know." Dawn said.
"Know what?" Misty asked, still confused.
"You're purposely trying to take away Ash from me! And what's up with- with this scene I just saw? Huh? WHAT WAS THAT?" Dawn was raging with anger.
"Dawn, calm down." Ash simply told her.
"No! I can't calm down! I won't ever calm down because you've been busy spending so much time with Misty! I mean, what do you see in her?" Dawn asked.
"Dawn, it's nothing like that. Why are you so upset?" Misty said.
"Because you're trying to take Ash away from me!" Dawn said again.
"No I'm not!" Misty said. "Ash will always be your friend, no matter what."
"Yea, Dawn. I'm just spending time with Misty for a while." Ash said.
"A while? You've been in here flirting with each other since half the day. You don't get enough with each other." Dawn said. "I don't like that!" Dawn became angry once again.
"Don't like what?" Misty asked.
"You guys flirting with each other!" Dawn responded, frustrated.
"Why not?" Ash asked.
"I just- just can't stand it!" Dawn stammered.
"Why not, Dawn? Why don't you like that we love spending time with each other? That we may or may not like each other? That we flirt with each other?" Ash asked.
"Because I can't handle the fact that you're spending time with another girl other than me!" Dawn responded.
"Why not?" Ash asked, putting both his hands on her shoulders.
"Because I like you!" Dawn blurted out and gasped. Surprisingly, Ash smiled at her reaction. She blushed. Somehow, she felt relieved letting it out. She looked in Ash's eyes and smiled, while hearing loud cheering and jumping at the back of her from Misty and Brock.
"Yes! I knew it!" Misty said. Dawn turned over to Misty. "Knew what?" Dawn asked.
"Think we should tell her, Ash?" Misty asked. Ash nodded.
"Dawn, we knew you liked Ash and-" Misty started.
(Flashback)
Ash was in the bathroom after the incident where he saved Dawn from a depressing accident. Ash felt a warm, loving feeling in his heart. He loved the way he hugged Dawn. He wished he could hold her forever. Why was he feeling this way? He just thought of Dawn as a friend. No- no! There was no way that he would have these feelings and just accept Dawn as a friend. No! Dawn was more than a friend. She was amazing, extremely beautiful, intelligent, funny, and interesting and the most spontaneous girl he ever saw. He had to do something to show her how he felt. But does Dawn feel the same way?
Ash took out his cell phone and decided to call his old time friend, Misty.
"Hello?" A voice said.
"Hi, Misty!" Ash said.
"Ash? Is that you? Wow! It's been so long! How are you?" Misty asked.
"I'm great! How about you?" Ash asked.
"Everything's peachy here in Pallet Town. I met Tracey the other day. He told me to tell you Hi." Misty responded.
"Tracey, huh? That's great! Tell him I said Hi back!" Ash smiled.
"Sure thing." Misty said.
"Hey, I kinda have a problem." Ash started. Misty gasped. "What is it, Ash?"
"I need your help. Are you willing?" Ash asked.
"Sure, Ash! Anything! I'll do anything! You know that!" Misty said.
"Well there's this girl I like-" Ash started.
"Oooooh! You have a crush!" Misty teased.
"Misty!" Ash whined, but also blushed. Misty laughed.
"Ok ok, continue." Misty said.
"There's this girl I like and I wanna tell her how I feel. But I'm not quite sure if she likes me back. What do you think I should do?" Ash asked.
"Ash why don't you just go for it?" Misty said. "She's not gonna bite your head off! Who knows? She might like you too."
"No, I wanna be sure of that. Then I'll open my feelings to her." Ash said.
"Ok, then I'm coming over!" Misty said.
"Really? That's great! Thanks so much!" Ash said.
"Yea, and I'm bringing Brock with me too! Its been a long time since we've seen each other." Misty said.
"Yea sure. It'd be great to see both you guys again." Ash said.
"And now, the brightest plan popped in my head! Its perfect!" Misty squealed.
"Spill it!" Ash said.
"We'll just make her jealous! With us!" Misty said.
"How are we gonna do that?" Ash asked, confused.
"Just pretend you have a crush on me. Bring me a gift, or flowers, and then we can act all flirty with each other. Trust me, it'll drive her crazy with rage!" Misty said, excitedly. Ash thought for a moment.
"Hmm, that actually might work!" Ash said, happily.
"Ok, well, see you tomorrow." Misty said.
"Bye" Ash said as he shut off his phone.
(End of flashback)
"And so that's what happened." Misty said with a relief. Dawn's eyes widened.
"So you both came here for this?" Dawn asked, to which Brock and Misty nodded. Dawn sighed.
"And I thought that you were snatching Ash away from me. Misty, I'm so sorry!" Dawn broke out, apologizing.
"Dawn, don't! This is what we wanted. We wanted you to get as jealous as you can and finally burst out your feelings! And that's exactly what happened!" Misty said. Dawn smiled.
"Thank you so much! Thank you both so much!" Dawn said, as she ran to hug both Brock and Misty.
"You're welcome!" Brock said. "Well I think we should leave you guys alone for a while. They need their moment." Dawn and Ash blushed.
"Yea. Let's go Brock!" Misty said as they both walked out of sight.
The two of them were just left staring at each other. Ash kept embracing Dawn's beauty of her eyes with a huge smile while Dawn stared at his somewhat handsome face. She felt a tingle inside as if she needed to come closer. But she walked behind, turned around, blushed, and started her feet to run but felt a wrist grab her arm and pull her back to a warm body. Dawn felt arms around her waist and a chin on her shoulder. She closed her eyes to embrace the moment and smiled. Somehow, this felt right.
"Where are you going, coffee spiller?" Ash asked to which she smiled even more.
*Tears of joy* Omg! That was *sniff* so beautiful! *Throws confetti everywhere*
