Chapter 162

Buffy told Giles about Angel, how he was a vampire. Giles began researching what he could. He remembered references in the watcher's diaries to a vampire known as Angelus. Angelus, the Latin name for Angel, was a particularly vicious creature, even by vampire standards. Most vampires just killed for food and seldom turned others, probably not wanting competition for limited resources. Angelus however took particular delight in bringing pain to innocent people. Tortured victims before feeding, killing children as parents watched. But there were no records of Angelus feeding since the 19th century. He was presued dead, but if this were the same creature he was evidently just laying low. Giles believed Angel had provided Buffy with intel because he had no more to gain from the end of the world than they did. Spike seemed to have the same ultimate goal, survival. But the question remained, if it was the same Angel, how could Buffy have seen his reflection. At any rate it seemed imposible that a vampire would do these things for altruistic reasons.
