Chapter 21

They had left the bar instantly and went back to the hotel, while Abby went back home to inform the news to Liz and Rudy. Once they got back to the hotel they saw that Chloe and Bonnie were sat on the couch and Kiara was sat in front of them talking really fast and she almost had tears in her eyes. Once she saw Klaus and Caroline she ran up to them and Caroline picked her up and said "hey, what's wrong?"

"Daddy, daddy, I have a message. Uncle Kol, Uncle Finn and Uncle Henrik told me to tell you that Esther has returned and she intends to do what she failed to do before. The power that she needs is hidden beneath the" she struggled to say the next word "førstefødte. Daddy what does that mean?"

Klaus opened and closed his mouth for a second then said "førstefødte means first born".

Caroline shook her head as she gripped Kiara closer "no, she can't".

Klaus looked at Kiara and said "where did you see your uncles?"

"In my dream" she said. She looked over Caroline's shoulder as something caught her eye and when she looked it was Henrik.

She gasped and everyone turned around but all they saw was an empty hallway. Bonnie said "Kiara, what is it?"

Kiara hesitated but then Henrik nodded and she said "I can see Uncle Henrik".

Chloe scoffed and said "so now she sees dead people. Anymore surprises?" everyone just rolled their eyes. Kiara jumped out of Caroline's arms and walked towards Henrik.

When she stood in front of him, she looked up to him and said "how can I see you?"

Henrik kneeled down so he was at her height "whatever was blocking me before has gone now. I used our connection through magic of our blood so that you could see me again".

"Like when I was little?"

"Yes it is like when you were little".

She stuttered before she said "you-you wont leave me again, will you?"

"I will try to stay".

Kiara smiled but then Klaus said "Kiara" She turned around to her father and Henrik stood by her side "what do you mean, like when you were little?"

She glanced at Henrik then said "when I was little I used to see him but he went away. He connects through out magic of our blood as we both have magic".

"Why didn't you tell us?"

"Uncle Henrik said that I shouldn't".

Klaus nodded then said "why don't you go and play in your room with Henrik?" Henrik knew that Klaus needed Kiara out of the way to talk and he nodded to her when she looked at him and they both walked to her room.

When Klaus heard the door close to Kiara's room, he turned around and punched the wall leaving a hole in it. Caroline grabbed hold of his hand and said "calm down. We'll fix this".

Klaus moved his hand and grabbed his phone out of his pocket and called Elijah "brother".

"Elijah, we have a problem" Klaus said.

"And what would be".

"Esther" he head Elijah take a sharp intake "turns out the trouble in Mystic Falls is Esther's doing".

"Are you sure, brother?"

"of course I am" Klaus snapped but then ran a hand through his hair "I was informed by a vampire who has been to Mystic Falls recently and Kiara has seen our brothers in her dreams and they told her that she wants the first born...Elijah, she wants Kiara".

"I will not let that happen. I will protect this family".

Klaus took a deep breath then sighed as he looked at Caroline and saw that she was giving him a comforting smile "we'll be back in New Orleans tomorrow".

"Of course, brother".

"Goodbye".

"Till tomorrow".

Klaus closed his phone and looked at the three women but before any of them could speak, Klaus walked out of the room. He walked towards Kiara's room and opened the door slightly and saw her practising magic and laughing. He knew that Henrik was still in there with her because Kiara was sat on the floor with her legs crossed and she was looking at a certain spot across from her as she laughed. Klaus couldn't help but smile when she laughed because she was his little girl and he would enjoy her laugh for the rest of eternity. Her laugh meant that she was safe and happy and that was all he wanted for her.

2 hours later, Caroline found Klaus on the balcony in their bedroom. He had both his arms rested on the balcony and in one of his hands as a glass of scotch. She walked up behind him and wrapped her hands around him. He smiled as he felt her arms and then he leaned back into them before he turned around fully and was met by his beauty. He placed his scotch glass onto the stone balcony and then placed both of his hands on the sides of her neck and caressed it with his thumbs. He leaned his head down and placed his forehead onto of hers before he closed his eyes and sighed. She moved both of her hands to the top of his and said "Nik" he opened his blue eyes and they locked with hers.

He said "when we go back home, I will increase security, day and night. Esther won't ever be able to get near you and Kiara".

Caroline nodded but then she moved both of their hands so they were down but she held his in her fingertips "I trust you...now come on you need sleep if we are leaving early".

She pulled one of his hands and walked into their room, closing the door behind them. They both got changed before they got into bed but before either of them could close their eyes they heard a small knock on the door. They both looked towards the door and as it opened they saw Kiara peek her head through the gap "mummy, daddy, can I sleep in here".

They both smiled at her and she ran over and jumped on the bed and lied in between them. Caroline patted her head as she cuddled closer to her and Klaus smiled as Kiara wanted to be near her mother. They all soon fell asleep and Klaus had an arm wrapped around his princess and his queen and smiled when he saw them sleeping peacefully.

As Klaus fell asleep, he dreamed of a peaceful day in the park with Caroline and Kiara. Caroline was lied down on a blanket on the grass and Klaus was sat beside her when Kiara ran up to them. Kiara looked a little older and her hair was longer. She said "daddy, please can I have an ice-cream?"

"Don't you think you have had enough sweets today, princess?"

Kiara pouted but then she jumped towards Caroline and sat down beside her. Caroline sat up on her elbows and then Kiara said "mummy, pleeeeeeaasse can I have an Ice-cream?"

Caroline was about to shake her head but Kiara turned her pout into a little smile and as soon as Caroline saw those dimples she couldn't resist. She looked at Klaus and said "one can't hurt".

Kiara smiled as Klaus said "you give into her too easy".

"Well I can't help it" Caroline said "she has your dimples and you know that I can't say no to them". Klaus gave her a dimpled smile and leaned down to kiss her before he stood up and walked towards the ice-cream van.

As soon as he had the ice-cream in hand and he turned around, he felt the wind blow but then it went from a sunny day and it became cold and dark. He looked around to see that all the children playing, the parents, the runners and dogs were all gone. He looked towards where Caroline and Kiara were and when he whooshed over to the blanket, he saw that there was no sign of them. He dropped the ice-cream and placed both of his hands at the sides of his mouth as he shouted "CAROLINE, KIARA" he turned around to look for them but he saw the one woman he hoped never to see again "Esther".

Esther smirked and said "Niklaus".

Klaus stood proud to show that he wasn't afraid "now I know you're not a dream as I would never dream of you".

She took a few steps forward "your right. I am real".

"What do you want?" he sneered.

"I think we both know what I want. I still have people on the other side who are loyal to me and I have been informed that my sons have visited your daughter in her dreams. I not being on the other side as long as I have must have stopped the spell from working so Henrik could contact her".

"So you're the one who separated them" he pointed to her.

"Yes. Even though I was alive when Henrik began seeing she, none of them knew that I was alive they simply thought that I didn't want to see them. Henrik was so confused when he discovered that she couldn't see him anymore".

"You will stay away from her".

"Who?" she said teasingly "your abomination or your whore". Klaus growled but then rushed towards her to kill her but she held out her hand and Klaus felt a strong aneurism. He froze to the spot and a knee went to the floor due to the power of the magic "I need her power".

"Why?"

"She has enough power to take down what I created. She has enough power to kill all of you and still survive when every vampire dies".

Klaus groaned due to the pain "she will never do that".

"No but with a little persuasion she will...and if not then I will absorb her power, as I am the only living family member, who is a witch".

Klaus used all of his strength to stand up and Esther was shocked "I will kill you, I will protect her and the rest of my family until it is the last thing I do".

Esther laughed and then said "we shall see".

Klaus shot up in bed and looked to his side to see that Kiara and Caroline were still asleep. He ran his hands over his face and through his hair before he looked back at the girls and whispered "I promise I won't let anyone hurt either of you. I will protect you...even if that means I die doing it". He leaned over towards the girls and placed a kiss on both of there foreheads before he lied back down and wrapped an arm around them. The vow he just made running through his mind and he knew what the first thing he would have to do when they went back to New Orleans was to find a way to break the link to his bloodline. If he had to die then he would not have Caroline going down with him.
