Chapter 24

Both Caroline and Klaus stood in silence for a few moments just staring at each other when Caroline glanced away. Klaus walked towards her until he stood so close that she could feel his breath on her. He moved his hand towards her and laced his fingers in the hand he had bitten and squeezed it. She looked up at him and as they looked into each others eyes, they glanced at each others lips as they leaned closer. Caroline's eyes were fluttering to close but as Klaus' lips brushed across hers, she turned her head to the side and closed her eyes. Klaus sighed as he knew Caroline was still angry but all Caroline did was bite her bottom lip and closed her eyes as she felt like she was about to start crying "I'm sorry, Nik. But after what you did" she moved her hand away from his and took a few steps away from him and turned her back.

She ran a hand through her hair and that's when he came up behind her and wrapped an arm around her waist from behind "my love" he said against her ear "I'm sorry. I know that I shouldn't have done it and I regret that now but I just...I just wanted to protect you".

"Protect me" she exclaimed and took a step away from him and faced him "how is me being separated from you protecting me?"

"Because it means that if I have to risk my life to save yours, then I will do it knowing that I wouldn't drag you down with me and you can be here with Kiara. Living your life"

"What kind of a life would that be?" she snapped "none of this family would be the same again without you and I hate how you are talking like you are going to die soon. Don't you care about how it will affect any of us?"

He walked towards her angrily and gripped the top of her arms and shook her slightly "no I don't care because as long as you and Kiara are alive that is all I care about" he loosened his grip and then placed both of his hands at the side of her face "I would travel the world, I would go to hell and back for the two of you. In all of a thousand years, I lived in darkness and I only found light when I met you. I refuse to let that light die away because of me".

She had tears in her eyes as she leaned up and kissed him. It was a simple kiss and when she pulled away she said "did Bonnie do the spell?"

Klaus hesitated before he nodded. She gave him a sad smile but then he said "but it didn't work on you" she frowned in confusion "everyone who I wanted to be unlinked is but you. Bonnie couldn't do it because we are mates. With me being part werewolf it made you my mate but every time we blood shared" they both smirked as they mostly did that when they were intimate "it only strengthened our connection. It made us into some kind of vampire mates and our connection is too strong to be broken".

She gave him a genuine smile and said "so no matter what, we can't be broken" he nodded. She moved one of his hands off of her cheek and laced her fingers in his "I love you".

"I love you, always and forever" they both leaned forward and gave a slow but passionate kiss. After a few moments, Klaus pulled back and said "now let's sort that bite out".

"Lets" she took his hand and started to pull him towards their bed.

He sat down on the bed and he pulled her onto him and she straddled him. She began to kiss him but then she kissed along his jaw and he removed her jacket. As she was kissing his neck, he looked down at her wrist, at the wound and guilt swelled up more when he saw it. She noticed this and tried to move his hand but he held it tight and kissed it. She went back to kissing him and did this till her whispered "now". She then bit into his neck and started to suck his blood. At first she was only going to take what she needed but then she felt Klaus' fangs go into her neck and she loved the feeling of when they did it together.

They eventually pulled away and when they looked at each other, blood covered each others lips. As they kissed, their blood mixed together and they both thought it was euphoric. Klaus laid her on the bed and as he was kissing down her neck, his hands were slowly moving up her top. He was about to lift her shirt off when they both heard a crash from down stairs. They both jumped off the bed and out of the door and as they ran towards the courtyard, they saw the vampires of New Orleans fighting werewolves when it wasn't a full moon. The door lay a few feet away from where it was supposed to be, in pieces.

It instantly clicked that they were the werewolves from Mystic Falls and Klaus looked at Caroline and said "get Kiara and get out of here" she nodded and then she ran to Kiara's room, while Klaus jumped into the fight to defend his family.

As Klaus jumped into the fight, he saw that while everyone was fighting, not one of there enemies was struck down. Klaus snapped some of the werewolves' necks and after a few moments of being dead, they jumped right back up and began to fight again. Klaus and the others who saw this remembered that in Mystic Falls the werewolves couldn't be injured so they all changed their techniques of fighting the wolves. Klaus plunged his hand into a wolfs chest as it lunged for him but when Klaus tried to pull it out, it wouldn't. The only thing they could do was defend themselves and try to drive the wolves away but it was hard when they couldn't be killed.

Upstairs, Caroline was running as fast as she could to Kiara's room and when she got there, she saw that Kiara wasn't in her bed. She looked around the room desperately and then saw Kiara sat in the corner of the room, holding her stuffed wolf teddy tight to her chest. She had her eyes closed and was mumbling something so quietly under her breath, that Caroline couldn't hear it. Caroline knew she was scared but as she moved towards her, she couldn't reach her. It felt like a wall was protecting Kiara. Caroline knew instantly that it was a protection spell done by Kiara and she said "open your eyes, baby girl".

Kiara stopped mumbling as she recognised the voice and opened her eyes, which had unshed tears in. She ran towards Caroline and dropped the shield as she ran and then Caroline picked her up and hugged her. As Kiara had her arms around Caroline's neck, with her wolf still in hand, she said "mummy, what's happening?"

"I don't know but we have to go, sweetie" Caroline then put her down but gabbed her hand and began to walk out of the room.

They both walked towards the back of the house to leave through the back door and they managed to sneak away through the fighting and anyone else in the hallways. As they got near the backdoor, Caroline and Kiara both froze in the hallway as they saw who was stood in there way. Kiara didn't know who the man was but the way he stood and looked at her mother was like he had power or at least thought he did. She glanced at her mother to see that her eyes were wide as she gasped "Tyler".
