After the mermaid ran away, the group minus Jiraiya – who ran off to chase after a lady – had rented a boat.

Naruto watched Yamato seal the boat. "We need to head to Devil Island. The lab is hidden in an underground cave there."

Anko looked back at the ring-eyed boy. "Who's going to be in this party?"

Naruto looked over the memories he gained from Isaribi. "I know of the scientist's failed experiments and two of Kabuto's old teammates. There's Misumi who uses a jutsu to make his body like rubber in order to strangle his enemy. I think Hinata is the best to fight him since her Gentle Fist's speed can easily disable him."

Hinata blushed as she held on to Kyū, making the young kitsune yip.

Naruto then continued. "Then there's Yoroi. He absorbs chakra to disable his opponents. I think Shinji or I should battle him. After all, we have our Nine Tailed Fox chakra. He would overload."

Shinji did something he never thought he would do. "I'll face him. I need to prove myself as a true shinobi."

Anko looked at him. "And the wimp's balls drop. I say let him. I want to see if the saying 'When they drop, they motherfucking drop' is true."

Shinji blushed as all this talk about his balls was making him uncomfortable.

Yamato docked the boat on Devil Island's shore. "Then myself and my Wood Release will handle the scientist's experiments."

Meanwhile, in NERV's Evangelion hanger…

Misato and Rei were about to enter Eva-01.

Back with the Leaf team…

Yamato was holding back some freak monster lions with roots that he controlled through his Wood Release.

Yamato looked at the team and told them, "Get a move on!"

Hinata, Naruto, Shinji and Anko then ran through the door into another level where a trap door sprang making Naruto and Shinji fall through the floor.

After the two fox Jinchūriki fell, the trap door closed.

A tearful Hinata fell to the ground and it hit it, screaming for it to open.

Anko grabbed hold of Hinata and forced her to stand. "Hinata, look. Naruto is stronger than anyone in the Leaf as it is, but now he has a staff letting him use all the elemental releases. He'll be fine. Trust me."

Hinata wiped away a tear from her right eye and nodded. Kyū climbed out of Hinata's backpack and onto the top of her head as the two ladies moved forwards.

Below the ground, Naruto and Shinji found themselves facing Misumi and Yoroi.

Naruto quickly took out the Sage's staff as Misumi ran to try to strangle him. Naruto quickly swung the staff, sending out a stream of ice chakra. "Ice Release."

Needless to say, Misumi found himself frozen solid in mid-air.

Yoroi paid no mind to Misumi as he grabbed onto Shinji and started draining the pilot of his chakra.

Shinji yelled to himself, "Come on, you fox! Make me mad!"

Before Yoroi could even try to understand that, Yin Kurama started to make the boy relive all his worst memories.

Soon, the Yin half of the Nine Tails chakra covered Shinji and evolved into a version two chakra shroud that had a purple color.

The fool Yoroi was still absorbing chakra and found himself unable to stop. Before long, the villain's body start to swell until he exploded all over the room in the cave.

Naruto, thankfully, had put up a Preta Path dome shield to keep himself clean. "That just isn't right."

Shinji returned to normal, passed out and fell to the ground as the winner of his first battle as a shinobi of the Leaf.

Inside the former-NERV pilot's mind…

Shinji found himself in his mindscape. He looked like he was alone but he heard two pairs of footsteps.

Shinji quickly pulled a knife, fearing that the demon was out of its cage. A knife wouldn't help him if that did happen. It was just a reflex.

Shinji quickly turned to see Rei and Misato and Shinji with a knife in hand was enough to make Misato scream.

Shinji was embarrassed so he put away the knife and said, "Sorry. I thought you were something else." The boy quickly regained focus and looked at Misato. "Wait. Why… How are you here?"

Misato looked at him, "I want to see you again Shinji… I -"

Before she could continue, Shinji cut her off. "I'm sorry Misato, but you can't do this. I'm in a world that isn't friendly and every time someone climbs inside Eva-01, I freeze up like a block of ice outside. That could really kill me. You could have killed me by doing this."

Misato just cried as she said to herself, 'I drink too much and don't give the only guy who ever cared about me the time of day when he's with me, and now that he's gone me even seeing him can kill him. I can't do anything right.'

Shinji saw a tear fall from Misato's face. "I'm sorry Misato. I didn't mean to hurt you. It's just that a lot of weird stuff is going on."

A pair of red demonic fox eyes then lit up in the darkness and said, "The kit isn't lying." Misato screamed and hid behind Rei.

Both Rei and Shinji looked at her and said, "He's in a cage."

Shinji looked the Yin Kurama in the eye. "And shut up demon."

Yin Kurama laughed and simply said, "When they drop, they motherfucking drop."

In response, Shinji spazzed out and yelled, "WHAT IS WITH EVERYONE TALKING ABOUT MY GODDAMN BALLS?!"

Misato was shaking. Why? Let's list the reasons, shall we? One, she was looking a demon in the eye. Two, Shinji stood up to the demon. Three, Shinji cursed and, finally, four, people were talking about Shinji's balls which didn't sound right.

This all suddenly ended when Shinji awoke to see that he was covered in Yoroi's blood and guts.

Shinji just threw up as he was grossed out.

Naruto made hand signs. "Water style: Water bullet." Naruto spat a giant ball of water at Shinji which cleaned the boy off.

Shinji shook himself dry. "Thank you."

Naruto helped his fellow fox Jinchūriki to his feet. "What are friends for?"

Shinji rubbed his eyes as they gave off a yellow glow that was almost impossible to see. This signalled that the link to the Eva-01 was still somehow going on.

Without knowing it, Shinji moved on, not knowing that Rei and Misato were seeing things through his eyes.

The two boys spotted and door and raced through it.

Meanwhile, outside in a lake linked to the sea…

Anko was fighting Amachi who had turned into a fish man on an old shipwreck while a monster made of water was attacking Hinata.

Hinata avoided a water whip as her Byakugan spotted the monster's weakness. The girl said, "Kyū. Do you have control over foxfire?"

The fox, now on Hinata's shoulder, summoned a blue flame to its nose to say yes.

Hinata got ready for a jutsu. "Then fire a foxfire blast. Let's go. Gentle Fist: Vacuum Palm, Foxfire Vortex."

The young fox demon's fireball was transformed into a giant demonic flame vortex by Hinata's Vacuum Palm.

The attack was so powerful that the water monster and half the water in the lake evaporated.

Naruto and Shinji made it out in time to see Hinata's attack.

Naruto simply whispered, "Amazing.'

Hinata heard Naruto call her – well, her attack – amazing which made the girl blush and think, 'Naruto thinks I'm amazing.' The Hyuga then fainted.

On the shipwreck, Anko was down and Amachi was about to finish her off with scale senbon. But, before he could, a senbon made from a scale hit him in the back, paralyzing the villain.

Anko turned her head to see Isaribi in her now altered Kaima form. She looked mostly human. She only had scales on her arms from the elbow down, her legs only had scales from the knee down, her fingers and toes were webbed and the last fish-like trait were gills at the side of her neck.

Shinji looked at Isaribi. "A mermaid killing a merman. Don't see that every day."

Misato who at watched that through the Unite one's built in display, "NO SHIT YOU DON'T! A FUCKING MERMAID?! WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON?!"

Rei looked at her. "Like my brother said, there is a lot of weirdness in a world where people can use the A.T. Field better than our Angels."

Shinji blinked and the link to him and Eva-01 shut off leaving Misato and Rei in the dark.

Isaribi returned to human form and helped Anko up. "I wish to join the Leaf and start my own clan if I can."

Anko, kicking the now-dead from the neck down fish man in the face, responded, "You sure can, missy."

The fish man flew right at Naruto.

Amachi looked right into Naruto's Rinnegan eyes, his own filling with fear as the boy grabbed hold of the madman's head.

Naruto pulled his hand back as he used the Human Path's Absorption Soul Technique to remove the merman's soul.

Naruto looked through the insane water breather's memories until he came to Orochimaru's last known location and, more importantly, a memory of what his sister looked like.

Naruto smiled as he let go of the villain's soul. After all, he knew where his sister was and where Orochimaru was. Naruto whispered to himself, "Hold on, Karin. Your brother is coming to free you and to break the lies Orochimaru used to control you."
