Epilogue
10 years later...
After the battle, Nathan had decided that he and Lucas would move to New Orleans because he didn't want his son to be unhappy being away from Kiara. Klaus had accepted them with open arms and had opened a witch fraction that held Nathan and some of the witches from the quarter. Even though Nathan and Lucas were not tied to the witches, they respected him and his choices. Lucas went to the school in the quarter but every day he would come to the compound and see Kiara. The way Kiara and Lucas were together started to concern people and Klaus and Nathan both looked into it. In the end they discovered that they couldn't keep Lucas and Kiara away form each other even if they tried.
Kiara continued to be home schooled till she was 12 and then she had finally been able to persuade Klaus to let her go to school. She didn't tell Lucas and surprised him one day when he walked into his class. Just like they all expected, Lucas was very protective of her and didn't let anyone go near her. Klaus and Nathan's thoughts about them were confirmed, when Kiara was 14 and a boy in her class asked her on a date. Lucas got angry in that moment and decided to have a fight and nearly got suspended.
Kiara and Lucas were now 17 years old and had been dating in secret for three years. Kiara's light brown hair was now just below her chest and in curls. She was 5'5 and her skin was still pale and her eyes were more sky blue. Lucas had grown and he was now 6'0, his hair was still brown and her had small spikes in it. His skin was not as pale as Kiara's but his eyes were the same sky blue. They were stood at the back of the school; Kiara was up against the wall, while Lucas was kissing her. They both couldn't have been happier but then Lucas pulled away and Kiara was confused. His bit his bottom lip as he was staring down and then Kiara said "Lucas, what's wrong?"
He looked up and their blue eyes met and he smiled "you're so beautiful" he moved some hair out of her face and wrapped it around her ear, before he placed a hand on her cheek.
She placed her hand over his and said "what's wrong?"
"Nothing".
Kiara gave him a knowing look and said "I've known you for 10 years and we've been dating for 3. I know when you're lying".
He laughed for a moment then said "that's the problem; we've been dating for three years".
Kiara suddenly felt nervous and pushed him away from her. She felt tears come to her eyes "are you breaking up with me?"
"No" he quickly said and moved back forward and hugged her "I would never do that". He moved back and could see a stray tear fall. He wiped it away and said "you're stuck with me forever".
She smiled and said "good".
"What I meant to say was I want to tell everyone about us".
Kiara shook her head immediately and said "we can't".
"Babe, please just listen. Everyday, I see guys looking at you and they think they might have a chance because they believe that you're single. I want to walk down the streets and hold your hand and kiss you and shout it from the roof tops that your mine and I'm yours".
"What about my father?" Kiara placed both of her hand on the sides of his face and he placed his on top of hers "I don't want you to get hurt. I can't lose you, I wouldn't survive".
"You wont" he leaned forward and placed his forehead on hers "your father trusts me, he told me that himself. How many people does your father trust with you?"
"He trusts you as my best friend. Do you really think it will stay like that if he finds out? Remember how he congratulated you when you nearly beat David to death for asking me out".
Lucas smirked and said "yes and I also remember that, that was the first day we kissed".
*flashback*
Kiara and Lucas aged 14
Kiara and Lucas were putting their book in their lockers, which were next to each other, from last period. They were laughing as Lucas said "so, when my dad walked in, he found that the dog was turned blue".
Kiara laughed and said "how was I not there for that?"
"You were at defence training".
She rolled her eyes and said "don't remind me. I don't see why I have to learn how to fight, when I can just do spells".
"They're only trying to protect you".
"I know I know".
Kiara and Lucas both closed their lockers but then they heard "Kiara, wait up" they both turned to see that David. David liked to think of himself as Mr Popular as everyone liked him and it wasn't a secret that he recently started to like Kiara. It made Lucas angry the way he acted around her as he didn't want anyone around her.
When he stood in front of them, Kiara said "hey, David".
"Can I talk to you" he glanced at Lucas "alone".
"Err" she glance at Lucas and Lucas nodded his head and left them.
David saw Lucas stand not far away from them and he said "he's very clingy to you".
"He's my best friend".
"Well he is a bit of a weirdo".
Kiara put on an offended face "you know what, get lost. Stay away from me".
Kiara began to move but then David grabbed the top of her arm to stop her and he said "I'm sorry, just listen".
When Lucas saw Kiara upset her moved forward to help her but anger rushed inside of him when he saw David grab her arm.
David let go of Kiara's arm and said "okay I'm sorry. I apologise, I'm sure he's a great friend. I just. I came over here to see if you would go out with me".
Kiara shook her head but before she could say anything, she felt someone push her out of the way slightly then she saw Lucas punch David in the nose. She gasped and placed her hands over her mouth but then saw that David stood up straight and began to fight. People started to crowd round as the fight began. David lunged for Lucas and hit him in the lip but then Lucas punched him in the jaw then kneaded him in the stomach and he fell to the floor in the state of unconsciousness.
Two teachers then stepped in and as one examined David, the other heard some people talking about what happened then looked at Kiara and Lucas and said "principles office, now".
As they began to move and grabbed their books and bags, they heard the teacher examining David said "we need to call an ambulance".
Half an hour later, Kiara and Lucas were still sat in the principles office but they couldn't talk and Lucas had an ice pack to his split lip. The principle stood up as the door opened and they looked to see Nathan, Klaus and Caroline walk in. Nathan sat next to Lucas and Klaus took his other side and Kiara was sat in the middle of him and Caroline. Kiara said "mum, daddy, what are you doing here?"
Klaus sat down and said "we were in `the meeting' when Nathan got his phone call and then a few moments later I got one".
Nathan was looking at Lucas and said "mind explaining to me how this happened".
He was looking at his cut lip but then Lucas pushed his hand away forcefully and said "doesn't matter" he then put the ice pack back.
Caroline asked "Lucas, are you okay?"
Lucas glanced at her and could see that she was worried "I'm fine".
They all looked to the principle as she sat and she said "I take it you are Luca's father and Kiara's parents?" the three of them nodded. The principle was a little suspicious of the age of Kiara's parents but she decided to let it go, in case it offended them.
Caroline said "would you mind telling us what happened today?"
"From what I have gathered from whiteness" the principle started "a boy named David asked Kiara out and Lucas decided he would start a fight. David is now unconscious and on his way to the hospital".
Kiara put her head down but Lucas still had his head up, glaring at the principle. Nathan and Klaus both smirked but Nathan tried to cover his by putting his arm on the chair and a hand over his mouth. Klaus made it obvious how he felt because he laughed and patted Lucas on the back and said "nice one mate".
"Nik" Caroline said and he looked towards her and she was giving him a `what the hell' look. He moved his hand and tried his best to hide his smirk.
The principle continued "I know how close Kiara and Lucas are to each other, I have seen it. The teachers comment on how strong it is but I think they should separate. Just for the time being".
"What? No" Kiara shouted.
"Kiara" Caroline said.
"No, mum, they're not separating us".
"We've been best friends for years" Lucas said forcefully "we're not separating just because you told us to".
The principle said "Lucas, please calm down".
"No" Lucas stood up "screw you, screw your damn school because it's never going to do it" Lucas then slammed the ice pack into the table before he moved away from the desk to get his bag.
"Lucas" Kiara said as he was walking out and after she got her stuff, she also walked out.
The principle looked to Nathan and said "is anything going on at home?"
"Like what?" Nathan shrugged and shared a look with Klaus and Caroline as they were mostly at the compound.
"From what I have read, Lucas is a good boy. He never gets into fights, gets good grades and then today it all changed".
Nathan and Klaus looked at each other and smirked and then Nathan said "he's at that age".
"David's parents have been contacted but they can press charges against Lucas in the time being. For now, I have to suspend him till further notice for protection of the other students, till this is resolved and I have been noticed about where David's parents want to go".
Klaus said "what was David's last name?"
"Petersworth".
Klaus looked at Nathan and he said "not a witch family".
"So it's human fraction. That's easily fixable" Klaus said. Klaus then leaned forward and started to compel the principle "you had a normal meeting and discussed that Lucas was only defending himself because David tried attacking him, when Kiara turned him down. You are letting Lucas off with a warning but he is to attended school starting tomorrow".
"He will come back to school tomorrow, it was self defence" the compelled principle said.
Klaus then pulled back and said "is there anything else?"
The principle shook her head then said "that's all. They will come back to school tomorrow and I will discuss with David's parents what happened today" the principle then stood up with the parents then said "it was nice to meet you". They all shook hands then they left.
As soon as they left the principles office, Caroline said "what do you two know?"
Both men looked around to see that the corridors were empty and Klaus said "know what?"
"What's wrong with Kiara and Lucas? We all know that he wouldn't do this". Nathan and Klaus both shared a look and she said "Nathan, tell me".
"Why'd you ask me?" Caroline gave him a look and he said "not getting involved".
"Nik, tell me".
Klaus sighed then said "when Lucas first met Kiara, we all knew that there was something strange between them. After a couple of months, Nathan and I looked into it and found that they could be some kind of witch mates".
"There're mates" Caroline exclaimed "what didn't you tell me?"
Nathan said "we didn't know for sure till now, there was no way to test it".
Klaus said "mates are protective of each other and can be extremely jealous, you know how it is" Klaus smirked and Caroline rolled her eyes "we didn't know if they were these witch mates but now we do because of how Lucas reacted to Kiara being asked out".
After Lucas and Kiara ran out of the principles office, Lucas was walking faster than Kiara and Kiara had to jog to keep up with him. They walked down two hallways before they got to the lockers and Kiara managed to stop him. She had been telling him to slow down and stop since they left and she finally grabbed his upper arm and said "Lucas, please".
He knew there was a pleading look on her face, due to the way her voice said it. He stopped but he ripped his arm away from her and punched the locker nearest to him. He then leaned his head onto the locker and said "damn it".
Kiara tried to pull his hand away from the locker to help him but he wouldn't let her look "I'm only trying to help you, please". Lucas was breathing heavy but then he turned around to lean his back against the locker and held up his hand out so that Kiara could see. She held his hand and could see that all of his knuckles were bleeding but she didn't know if they were injured from the lockers or from the fight with David "why did you do it?" he pulled his hand away from her and looked away. She placed a hand on the side of his face, so that he would look but even though he tried to look away, he couldn't resist her touch. As he looked into her blue eyes she said "you can't do that. You can't around punching people because they ask me out. David-" Lucas pushed her hand away and moved away from her.
He ran a hand over his face and said "I don't care about David".
"Then what do you care about? Right at this second I have never seen this side of you before and it scares me". Lucas looked back at her, to see that she was nearly crying and walked back towards her.
He hugged her as she cried into his shoulder and said softly "you. I care about you and only you".
She laughed but he knew that she had a smile on her face "and I care about you, you damn idiot" she then pulled away and he wiped her tears away with his knuckles "what if they try to separate us?" he shook his head "I can't stand that".
"It won't happen".
"You shouldn't have attacked David".
Lucas clenched his fists and said "he deserved it".
"All he did was ask me out".
"Exactly" he exclaimed "no boy or man is allowed near you". Kiara began to demand why and ask more questions but then Lucas said "be quiet".
He ran a hand over his head as she said "you of all people know that no one tells me what to-" she was cut off by Lucas' lips on hers.
She was shocked and her eyes were still open but as he was kissing her, she couldn't help but close her eyes and respond to the kiss. Her books and bag that was in her hand was now on the floor along with Lucas' bag. She wrapped her arms around his neck as his went around her waist and he was pulling her closer. It was her first kiss and she couldn't imagine anything more perfect. She could feel the cut on his lip, as he kissed her and in her eyes, it just made it more romantic.
When they pulled away, they were both panting but then they heard footsteps coming their way. They quickly picked up their bags and books and headed off down the corridor. As they turned the first corridor, Lucas said "we should head back".
"Not before you explain" she grabbed his hand and quickly found an empty classroom. When she opened the door and closed it, she brought down the blind, so that no one could see inside but when she turned around, Lucas kissed her again.
Their stuff dropped to the floor again and even though she wanted to talk, her body reacted and placed her hands into his hair and kissed him. As he pushed her against the wall, one of her legs went up and he placed his hand on her thigh. He picked her up, while their lips were still attached and walked to the student's desk and sat her down. He stood between her legs as they kissed but then he moved his lips along her jaw and started to place kisses along her neck. He began to suck on her pulse point and she moaned but as soon as she did that, she pushed him away.
They both stood there looking at each other and panting then she said "I-we-wh-what was that?" she placed her fingertips on her lips and then put her hand back down.
He opened and closed his mouth but then he glanced down for a moment but then said as he took a step closer to her "you cant tell me that didn't feel right, that you didn't want that" he stood in front of her and held out his hand and placed it on her cheek "Kiara, talk please".
"I-you can't do that again" she jumped off of the desk and began to pick her stuff up.
"Why?"
"My dad he'll kill you if he finds out".
"No he won't. Kiara look at me" she turned around slowly and looked at him but she couldn't look him in the eyes "I've wanted to kiss you for as long as I can remember. From the first moment I met you, I felt this connection to you" she looked away from him "I know you felt it too".
"Lucas, I don't want you to get hurt" she had tears in her eyes "I don't want anyone to use you to get to me".
"Be with me. I don't care about the danger, we'll be together in secret if that what it takes but I just want to be with you" he walked closer to her and grabbed one of her hands and placed it above his heart "you can't tell me your heart doesn't want what mine wants, that it doesn't want us to be together" he began to move closer as he spoke "it belongs to you...Tell me to stop" he looked at her lips and began to lean in.
"Not telling my dad" her eyes began to flutter and she knew that everything he said was true.
"Not if you don't want to".
"In secret".
"As long as I'm with you, I'm happy".
"Good" she said before she leaned the rest of the way and kissed him.
*flashback*
"Babe, your father knows that I will never hurt you. He knows that I'll die before that happens".
She tried to talk but didn't know what to say. She sighed in frustration and said "fine. How do you want to tell him?"
"Well do you want him to know that we've been dating for the past 3 years?" she gave him a look "I take that as a no. How about you tell him that I asked you out on a date and pretend that it's our first".
"You really think he'll buy that?"
"Well do you have a better plan?"
She opened and closed her mouth and he smirked. She slapped his chest playfully and said "shut up smart ass".
"You love me for it though".
"Yeah, yeah I love you" the bell then rung and she said "we have to get to class".
He picked up her bag and carried it for her but before they got round the corner, so they could be seen, he pulled back and kissed her and said "I love you too" they both smiled then they separated and put some distance between them.
That day when Kiara went home, she was contemplating how she wanted to tell her parents. She knew that her mum would be happy for her but in her father's eyes; she was still his little girl. She was scared to tell him in case he did anything to Lucas but she would be lying if she wasn't thinking about telling people herself. For the past year, she had been thinking about telling people but was afraid of what her family's reaction would be so she didn't mention anything to Lucas.
As she entered the compound, she found her father drinking and having a card game with Marcel, Elijah, Matt and Stefan. From her father collecting the money off of the table, he had just won another hand as the other men rolled their eyes. She kissed his cheek and said "hey, daddy. Hey guys". They all said hi and then she said "do you know where mum is?"
"She's upstairs with Rebekah and Bonnie".
"Thanks" she said as she headed for the stairs.
After putting her school stuff in her room, she walked around until she found them in the living room upstairs. They all smiled at her as she came in and sat on the couch next to her mother. Caroline wrapped an arm around her and said "how was school?" as she moved hair out of her face.
"I need your help" she looked at her mother and Aunties "I have a date".
All three women looked at each other as they knew who it was with because they all knew about the witch mates and they all knew that Kiara and Lucas had been dating for years. They all just wanted them to admit it. They all smiled and they jumped slightly and Bonnie said "who is it?" playing along so Kiara wouldn't know that they knew.
"It's Lucas. Listen, he's coming to pick me up in a couple of hours and I don't know how to tell dad".
"How long is a couple of hours?" Rebekah asked.
"He's coming for me at 7".
Rebekah looked at the clock and said "that gives us three hours. We can do this. Caroline you persuade Nik to let her go and Bonnie and I will take her shopping". They all nodded and then Caroline went downstairs to tell Klaus the news while the girls took her shopping.
As soon as the girls left, Caroline walked into the courtyard and kissed Klaus. He pulled her onto his lap and she put an arm around his shoulder, to balance herself as one of his went around her waist. The other men smiled as she whispered to Klaus' ear but then she looked at all of them and said "Kiara has a date with Lucas tonight". They all paused and the cup that was in Klaus' hand shattered "Nik, seriously" she wiped the glass off of his hand.
"Repeat that" Klaus said.
Caroline rolled her eyes and said "you know they have been dating. Don't scare him".
Stefan said "speaking of that, when are you going to tell them that you know".
"Never" both Caroline and Klaus answered but Klaus continued "she has Caroline's anger, do you want to tell her you know?"
Stefan held up his hands and said "pass" Marcel and Matt then laughed.
"Nik" Caroline said "you know that he's her mate. Don't do anything stupid when he comes".
"I was hoping they were going to tell us, not pretend that they are having their first date" Klaus said.
"Be lucky they are even making up a scenario like this" he sent her a confused look "Nik, on the day they got together, you patted him on the back for nearly beating a boy to death for asking her out" all the men at the table smirked "you wonder why they didn't tell us".
"It's respectful for the boy to ask the father to date his daughter".
"Get with the 21st century. I don't believe you asking my parents" he gave her a look that said 'do you remember how your mother reacted' she rolled her eyes and said "just behave when he gets here".
"Fine" he then sighed in frustration.
Caroline then looked to the other men and said "that means you guys as well" they all sent her an offended look "Kiara is still family and I know how you will react because Nik can't" they also sighed but agreed.
An hour and a half later, Kiara had returned, she had a shower and when she got out she only had an hour to get ready. She was rushing with her makeup and couldn't get the containers open when Caroline walked in. Caroline smiled at her daughter through her dresser mirror and said "do you want some help?" Kiara nodded and smiled as her mother helped her with her make up and hair.
She got changed in the bathroom and when she came out Caroline gasped. Kiara wore a blue lace dress that went to her knees with a white belt and flat shoes. They went for the natural look and only put on a bit of blusher and eyeliner and they curled her hair. Within the curls were small blue rose clips that made the outfit complete. They smiled at each other but then Caroline had tears in her eyes and Kiara rushed forward and hugged her "don't cry or you'll make me cry".
They pulled back and Caroline wiped under her eyes to stop the tears "sorry, it's just your not my little girl anymore".
Kiara shook her head and said "mummy, I'm still your little girl. Nothing will take that away from you".
Caroline hugged her daughter one last time before she said "we should probably go downstairs, I think I just heard Lucas arrive". Kiara nodded but mother and daughter still stood in front of each other as Caroline wrapped a piece of hair behind her ear and said "my beautiful little girl".
Downstairs, Bonnie and Rebekah had opened the door to welcome Lucas and he was just on time. They smiled at him and welcomed him in but that's when Klaus quickly took him from the girls and all the men surrounded him. He was wearing blue jeans and a long sleeved light blue shirt and he had flowers with him. He looked perfect for the date. Lucas was nervous at how the men were staring at him but his love for Kiara would go further. Rebakah said "leave him alone, Nik. You heard what Caroline said".
Klaus said "I only want to have a little chat. I understand that you are taking my daughter out" Lucas nodded "I have three very important rules. 1-dont have her back late 2-dont take advantage of her".
"I would nev-"
"Let me finish. And 3- if you ever break my daughters heart or make her unhappy, I will rip your heart out and crush it till it turns to dust" Klaus said darkly.
Lucas took a brave step towards Klaus then said "if I ever make her unhappy or even put a crack in her heart, I'll let you rip it out". Lucas and Klaus stood and Klaus admired Lucas' bravery towards him and he knew that he wouldn't hurt his daughter.
"Nik, are you threatening him" Caroline said from the stairs and everyone looked towards the stairs to see Caroline coming down and Kiara not far behind her.
Klaus walked towards the stairs and said "just a little warning".
Caroline rolled her eyes but then Klaus reached the stairs and as Caroline now stood next to him, he saw Kiara. She walked towards him and said "do I look pretty daddy?"
Klaus had tears in his eyes at how fast his daughter was growing up and he secretly wanted to go back to the times when she was just a child. He gave her a hug and whispered "your perfect as always" they then pulled away and she smiled at him. Lucas walked closer and Klaus said "remember what I said".
He nodded and said "as long as you remember what I said". He then looked at Kiara and he was speechless which made her giggle. He handed over the flowers and she immediately recognised them as red roses with bluebells as they were her favourite "you look beautiful".
She blushed and tried to speak but she found that she couldn't. Caroline smiled at her daughters actions and said "do you want me to put them in water, sweetie?"
Kiara nodded and handed the flowers over to Caroline then said "we should go" Lucas nodded and then Kiara wrapped her arm around his as they walked out.
It was only a few moments after they left, Klaus got his phone out and began to call people and Caroline smirked. After a few calls he said "damn it. Why aren't they picking up?"
"Because they've been ordered not to" they all looked to Caroline as they spoke "I ordered every vampire in the city not to pick up calls unless it's me".
"They wouldn't ignore a call from me".
"I told them that a threat from you would be 10 times worse coming from me. Now you three" she pointed to Matt, Marcel and Stefan "if you follow her or try to wreck my little girl's night in any way, you can only imagine what I'll do to you". Bonnie and Rebekah laughed as they walked away as they were on Caroline's side.
The men soon joined them as they all held up their arms, as they had never seen Caroline this serious, and Marcel said "sorry man. You're on your own".
Klaus and Caroline were now the only ones left in the courtyard, she walked up to him and he said "what if something happens and she needs protection?"
"Lucas is a powerful warlock and Kiara is also powerful. You know this isn't about protection, you just don't want to let her go" she placed a hand on his cheek and said "Nik, she's always going to be our little girl. No matter where she goes, no matter whom she is with, she's ours" Klaus nodded as he believed her words and then placed a soft kiss to her lips.
As soon as Lucas and Kiara left the compound, she laced her fingers in his and he said "so are we expecting any company tonight?"
Kiara smiled and said "mum told me she ordered off all vampires. She threatened them to ignore my dad's phone calls and when it comes down to it; my mum can be really scary". Lucas laughed "so what we doing tonight?"
They stopped in the street to look at each other then he said "well I was thinking dinner, then a movie and then going by the lake afterwards to watch the stars for a while. How does that sound?"
"Perfect pretend first date".
"Well it actually is our real first date" she sent him a confused look "because on this date. I can hold your hand" they glanced down at their hands and smiled "I can wrap my arms around you, I can kiss, I can say that I'm yours and your mine" they both smiled at each other and she had tears in her eyes "I can tell you that I love you and not have to be afraid or hide from what's behind me. So in a way, this is our first date because" he moved forwards and let go of her hand, so he can wrap his arms around "your here in my arms and I love you".
"And I love you" she leaned up and they both smiled into the kiss.
