Chapter 181
When Jessie woke up in the cemetary he was at first startled by the vampires surrounding him. But he felt differently somehow. Absolom spoke for these vampires.
Absolom: It's okay my friend. Do you remember?
Jessie: You tried to drink from me, the rest is a blur.
Absolom: Yes. You tried to resist when I fed you it was noble. Few humans resist as much as you did, but they all dring eventually, willing or not. Now you are one of us.
Jessie: You're saying I'm a vampire?
Absolom: Yes. Let me show you.
Absolom gave Jessie the hand mirror he'd taken from the girl. Jessie could see the cemetary, the graves, but not his own reflection. Jessie realized he felt the hunger, for blood. It was new, but somehow natural. He felt no guilt at the idea of finding some random innocent to drain the life force from. Absolom's vampires had even brought Jessie his first meal, Cordelia. She'd tried to hide, but they found her. Jessie had conflicted feelings. The love he still felt for Cordelia, against his hunger and demonic love of death. Jessie drank a little from Cordelia's neck. Not much, but enough to survive, and let her live. Buffy arrived as Jessie was feeding, she was too late to save her friend. She had failed, they had killed Jessie. Worse, they'd made a good man into a monster. Buffy attacked the other vampires, took her anger out on them. Jessie saw Buffy's anger, knew that their friendship was over, they were enemies now. Jessie let Cordelia go and followed Absolom to their new home, to the Master.
