Chapter 188
On Sunday december 2nd Buffy, Giles, Xander, Willow, Tara and Cordelia held a private memorial for Jessie. They needed to say goodbye to the person that he had been. Xander and Willow spoke of their childhood together with him. The first day of kindergarden when Willow began crying because she'd broken her yellow crayon. Xander didn't even bring his crayons but Jessie gave Xander his yellow one so he could stop Willow from crying. The three of them used to play doctor as children. Specifically Willow would read medical textbooks and diagnose their symptoms. They never had the heart to tell her she was playing it wrong. Cordelia talked about how much she loved Jessie, how he'd died protecting her. Buffy just stood there in respectful silence. She needed this service as well. She had to really say goodbye to the person Jessie had been. Because soon, she would have to face the thing that killed him. But that demon would be wearing Jessie's face, and that would be the thing Buffy would slay him.
