Chapter 189
After Jessie's memorial service Buffy confided her fears to Giles.
Buffy: How come I can save total strangers, but not my friends?
Giles: I don't know. The slayer has strengths, but is not invulnerable or without limits.
Buffy: I wish I'd never been told about this destiny.
Giles: So do all who live to see such thing. But that is not for us to decide. All we can do is decide what to do with the time we are given.
Buffy: Great. By the way, I fought these vampires last night, bunch of wannabes. They claimed to be Dracula, Lestat...
Giles: My God. You fought Dracula?
Buffy: Wait, there really is a Dracula?
Giles: Yes. He was known as Vlad the impaler, one of the most bloodthirsty and brutal tyrants in human history. He acuired the nickname "Dracula" which translates as "son of the devil." He earned the nickname, he claimed to have killed more people than all of God's plaques, and this was all before he became a vampire. Over five hundred years old he'd be very strong now.
Buffy: He wasn't that strong. Even with the rest of the vampires me and Faith dusted him easily.
Giles: That's a relief. It does sound like he was merely a pretender to the throne. Excellant chance he won't rise again. Let us hope you never have to encounter the real Dracula.
Buffy: Yeah, he was kind of pathetic. By the way, the other vampires, Dracula, Barnabas Collins, they're all fiction right?
Giles: As far as I know.
