Chapter 5 on the road to recovery
It was ten in the morning and Gwen was lying in bed reading a book while Ben slept in the bed beneath her and Max went shopping. She was so focused on reading her book it took her a few seconds to hear Ben stirring in his bed below her.
"Ben?" She asked as she set the book down on her lap and looked down at him. Her eyes were met with his and she smiled as he smiled back
"How are you feeling champ?" She asked him
"A little better thanks" he replied
"That's good" Gwen said happily
"Listen is there anything to eat? I'm starving"
Gwen simply laughed at this and said
"You've been awake for only two minutes and you're already thinking about food. Will you ever change Ben?" She said to him and smiled
"Hey in my defence I hardly ate lately. I have a good reason to be hungry..."
"You're right. Come on, let's get you some food" said Gwen and jumped off her bunk and helped Ben onto his feet and to the table. She then took out a box of cereal and two bowls out of the cupboard and put them on the table. Ben poured some into his bowl and Gwen did the same after him
"How are your lungs Ben?" She asked
"I think I still have some fluids in them but I'm doing better now..._ said Ben between bites
"Good. I'm glad to see you're doing better. You had pretty worried lately..." said Gwen and lowered her head sadly. Ben looked at her sympathetically and placed his face next to hers...
"Hey..." he said softly as she looked up at him
"I'm not going anywhere..." he smiled at her and kissed her forehead. Without thinking, Gwen grabbed his cheeks and pressed her lips against his which caught him by surprise. At first he was shocked but after a few seconds he melted into the kiss and her grip and kissed her back. When the need for air became unavoidable they parted and looked each other in the eyes
"I love you Ben. Don't worry me like that again..." said Gwen truthfully.
Ben simply gave her a quick kiss on the lips and said
"I love you too... and don't worry. I'll be fine..." they both smiled at his remark and hugged each other tightly, soon to fall asleep cuddled in each other's arms...
