He stared at me, with shock. His eyes were wide and his mouth was open.

"Never?" Peter asked. "Not once?"

"No," I tossed out my paper towel and crossed my arms over my chest.

"How old are you?" he asked.

"Sixteen."

"And you've never kissed anyone?"

"Is it so surprising?" I said. "I mean, not everyone has their first kiss before turning sixteen!"

"A fair amount of people do," he replied. "You're late, Tris."

"Not really some people wait until they—wait, what did you just call me?" I asked.

"Tris," he said with a raised eyebrow. "Why?"

"I think that's the first time you've ever called me by my name and not Stiff," I said.

"Oh."

"Yeah…" I trailed off.

For probably the billionth time that night, we stood in silence. He stared into space, I stared into space. For once, we were in the same boat. He was lost in thought, I was lost in thought. He looked pretty tired, I'm sure I looked just the same. And most importantly, he wanted Divergent, and so did I.

A knock on the door jarred us from our thoughts.

"Are you done having your conversation or can I use the bathroom?" a grumpy voice asked from the other side.

Peter opened it to a bleary-eyed boy in a t-shirt and boxer shorts.

"Sorry," I muttered. We scooted around him into the hall. Peter and I began walking slowly down the hall to our rooms.

"Well you have to get kissed now," Peter said. "I wouldn't want my first kiss to be fake, an act."

I sighed, "I really don't want to have this conversation. Especially with you."

Peter rolled his eyes, "Are you afraid I'm going to tell the whole school? Trust me, it's not worth the effort."

"No, it's just awkward. We barely know or like each other and it's not a conversation I tend to have with even my best friends."

"Whatever," he said. "Good night."

I opened my door and said, "Yeah, good night."

The next few days, nearly the same thing happened in class. I acted a few different scenes, still relying on my script, got criticism, sat down to watch other scenes, and left. Acted, received criticism, sat down, left. It was very routine and occasionally got boring unless someone did something stupid to make us all laugh. For example, one of the boys burped loudly in the middle of his lines. Half of us laughed, the other half cringed. Most of the cringers were girls, unsurprisingly.

After class on Friday, I decided to go to Pansycakes because who doesn't love their pastries? Especially after a long week of learning how to be an actress.

I sat in a corner with a cup of coffee and a chocolate cupcake, enjoying the quiet when it suddenly wasn't so quiet anymore.

A horde of students—probably ex-Dauntless—flooded into the café, bringing their loud personalities with them. Uriah and Dawn were among them. It was probably only five seconds before Uriah spotted me.

"Hey, Tris!" he shouted over the noise and jogged over to me, leaving Dawn in line to order.

"Hi," I said. "What's going on?"

I was referring to excited stomping of feet and shouts of joy.

"We're getting ready for our trip."

"You're going on a trip?" I asked.

"Yeah. It's a tradition," he explained. "After the first month of every semester, the Dauntless go out and do something fun. It's sort of like a celebration for surviving the beginning of a new term. Last term we went paintballing and another time we went cow-tipping."

"How is cow-tipping celebratory? And where did you find a cow?" I asked.

"It's not celebratory; it's just fun and hilarious. And it was actually on a camping trip. We went to a place with farms and fields and stuff."

"Oh," I nodded. "Okay then."

"You want to come with us? Technically, you are Dauntless now, even if it's only temporary."

"Really? Where are you going?"

"We're doing another camping trip. We're going to this cabin at Lake Michigan."

"Will there be enough room?" I asked.

"Yeah," he said. "It's more like seven cabins. Or eight, I'm not sure."

"Okay, I'll go," I said smiling.

"Then you better get packing. Because we're leaving in a few hours."

"Got it. Can Christina, Will, and Al come too?"

"Sure," he smiled. "Just make sure to be in the parking lot by 7:30."

"Okay, see you then," I said. Grabbing my coffee, I left to go pack.

Okay sorry it's really short but I wanted to bang out this chapter so I could put start the next one and put some better detail in it. Don't kill me! Leave me a review! You know the drill: character request, criticism, or a nice comment! Love you all!
