Chapter 212
As Daniel Holtz walked home with his wife Justine and son Steven/Conner he tried to talk to his son. Things had been strained between them lately, and Holtz knew why.
Holtz: Steven, I know you've talked to Angelus.
Steven: I want to know my birth family.
Holtz: They are demons. Me and your mother, we love you.
Justine: You know we love you, don't you Steven?
Steven: I know mom. But these "demons" gave me life, risked their lives to give me to your safety.
Holtz: Yes they did. Your birth mother, she knew if she stayed with you, she would kill you. I couldn't take the chance she would come back to hurt you.
Steven: So you killed her, for what they did to your first family.
Holtz: Yes, and to prevent her from doing that to you. What Darla did for you, that was as much love as she was capable of. Angelus isn't even capable of that. Whatever love Spike feels he saves all for Drusilla. Anyone of them would kill you.
Steven: I know the risks. But I have to know my heritage.
Holtz: Very well. But know that you are always welcome in my home. And I will do what I have to dod to protect you.
