Daniel and Justine Holtz paced nervously in their home. There was no denying it, their son was in league with the vampire Spike. They had done everything they could to prevent Steven from embracing his demonic routes, but they couldn't make his choices for him.
Justine: What are we going to do?
Daniel: I don't know. I'll be there, try to make sure Steven gets out okay, I don't know if I can stop Darla or Angelus. I'm sorry, if I had just staked Darla 15 years ago...
Justine: Hindsite is 20/20. I've always wondered, did you save him to keep a baby safe, or make those vampires suffer?
Daniel: To be honest, both.
Justine: And what now? What if Steven chooses his birth parents over us?
Daniel: I don't want to hurt him, but if he chooses evil, I don't know what I'll do.
Justine: Daniel, when I lost my sister, I wanted to die. To just kill as many of them as I could before they killed me. But then I found you, and our son. I will protect him, even if that means siding with evil. Even if it means going against you.
Daniel: I understand. If that happens, we'll see how it plays out.
