Chapter 226
On their walk home Buffy tried to explain to Dawn what happenned.
Dawn: So Angel and Spike, they're vampires aren't they?
Buffy: Yes. And they're not the kind who sparkle in the sunlight and marry teenage girls. Don't go near them, or Conner again.
Dawn: I won't. How are you mixed up in all of this?
Buffy: I'm a potential slayer. There's only one chosen slayer at a time. Faith Wilkins is the current slayer. If anything happens to her I'm one of several possible replacements. That's why Mr. Giles trains me. He's a watcher, the ones who train slayers.
Dawn: Do they decide who becomes the slayer?
Buffy: Giles says no. Some higher power apparently chooses. We're all descendants of the first slayer.
Dawn: So does that mean me and mom are potential slayers?
Buffy: You yes. But we're descended from dad's side of the family.
Dawn: Than shouldn't I be trained as well?
Buffy: I thought you were too young. But you're right, maybe you should have ome training. In case something like this happens again.
Dawn: How long have you known?
Buffy: Since the night Dana tried to kill us.
Dawn: Should we be trained in firearms, because someone like that might come again.
Buffy: I'll talk to Giles. Don't touch mom's gun.
Dawn: Okay. We should lie to mom, right?
Buffy: No poin in making her worry.
