It had been over a month since Jessie had been turned into a vampire and drafted into the order of Aurelius. He'd told the Master all he knew about Buffy, but still lived in fear of what the Master might do. Jessie was rarely allowed to venture up to the surface. The Master said they lived below to pay tribute to the old ones. They went above only to feed and grow their numbers. Absolom took blood from Willy, they had to conserve their numbers. Lying below so long made them angrier, more ready to fight the slayer. One of Jessie's functions was to protect Colin. He was the annointed one, he who would lead the slayer into Hell. Jessie didn't feel guilt, but he felt bad when he heard about Cordelia's death. And he was becoming protective of Colin. Jessie knew about the Master's plan, this would involve all their deaths. Jessie wanted to survive, as long as he could. Even if it meant just a few extra months. But Jessie found himself wanting Colin to be safe. The Master had a father-son relationship with the annointed one, but was still willing to sacrifice the child. If the very powerful Master was willing to do this, and the slayer was willing to dust all of them, what chance did Jessie have of surviving.
