Epilogue

Edward's POV

It had been over a month since the Maria incident and so far, everything was going great with Jasper. The moment I had heard that Maria had returned, I went straight over the house to check on him. I know it seems cruel that I still didn't trust that mind of his but I needed to know how he was dealing with it. I had been worried that he would want to harm himself again or that he would go through another one of his depression phases.

Unfortunately, seeing his abusive previous coven leader again had him pretty shaken up and he appeared a little more skittish than usual over the next few days but we were all there for him. By reading his mind, I could tell that despite his actions and words with Maria, he finally believed Carlisle when he told Jasper that Maria didn't own him.

Only now, Jasper believes that he owes Carlisle everything. As it appears; it's very difficult to get a message through to Jasper but he finally understood though he has lately spent a lot of time relaxing in Carlisle's study when he is in there.

Jasper also had to deal with Alice who pretty much lectured him about being worth something and to never think that he didn't deserve her again. We both knew that he wouldn't stick to his word though because it was always the first thing that came to his mind when he slips up but he eventually gets over it.

All in all, there has definitely been an improvement. He hasn't had a flashback since the incident which was the opposite of what we were all expecting. I now understand the term of 'facing your demons'. It really was a cure.

Perhaps they might happen again when things get bad but I believe that the worst is now over with. Especially since he hasn't even had the urge to harm himself either. It's like I'm finally free from his tortured thoughts so good came out of it for the both of us. It's weird but I'm rather proud of him for the way he has coped with things recently.

Since I was now less preoccupied with Jasper, I was now able to spend more time at home without worrying that Jasper would harm himself. It was no secret anymore, they all knew that there had been something going on with him and now they all know that it's not going on anymore. I suppose that means that Jasper feels free, too, now that he has nothing to hide. I guess that's why he has been more relaxed than usual lately. I like the new him.

It's not that I hated the 'previous' him, it was just that he was rather complicated and difficult to be around; especially with people like Emmett, who has no idea of the meaning of 'be careful of what you say and do, Jasper is a sensitive person'. Of course no matter how often we all told him that, it just goes through one ear and out the other.

But everything is okay now. I know that by the talk Jasper and I had the other day. I was actually rather surprised that he wanted to speak to me but he had just thanked me for doing the right thing even though he didn't think it was at the right time.

He told me through his mind that 'we were all right' and I knew what he was referring to. He had a long think about the real reason why Maria had come back for him and he must have added the pieces together. He was no longer in denial about what Maria had done to him but he still wasn't willing to say it out loud but then again. We couldn't expect that of him. What mattered most was that we got through to him.

Not only that, but now Jasper was no longer hiding any dark secrets; nothing that he should ever feel ashamed of. He knows now that he has a family that wouldn't judge him no matter what he went through.
