Chapter 238
On Sunday January 13th Colonel Mcnamara discussed this school's ROTC program with Principal Wood and Vice-principal Snyder. President Wilkins planned to make some changes.
Mcnamara: Our new President wants to increase this program. Let the kids know that joining the army is a good option after graduation.
Wood: I'm not thrilled at giving impressionable children dangerous propoganda.
Snyder: I have to warn you Colonel, recruitment prospects are pretty slim here.
Mcnamara: If you give me the chance, I can whip some of your delinquints into shape.
Snyder: Worth a shot. At any rate it might be a good idea to give a chance to the few students who want to be useful.
Wood: I'll allow this, but only for juniors and seniors. Only those who agree to it with parental permission.
Snyder: Sir, that could be a problem. If the goal is to turn juvenile delinquints around, they might e reluctant to volunteer.
Wood: I'm not forcing any of my students into this program. I am willing to allow juvenile offenders this offer in lieu of juvenile hall.
Mcnamara: Fair enough. Your conditions should be acceptable to President Wilkins. You both know the potential dangers this town faces. Hopefully you'll be more willing to allow an expansion of the program.
Snyder: Yes sir.
Wood: We'll see.
Mcnamara: At any rate I will report to the President what your attitudes are.
