Chapter 258

Giles and Jenny researched the Master and the Cocillium Mortuum. The council ruled the vampire underworld for over a thousand. They often allied with feudal lords and wiped out their enemies. They realized that humans, their food supply, was a limited resource. The council never put on white hats and called themselves saints, they merely wanted to keep enough humans alive to keep themselves alive longer. Their preferred method was to keep the enemies of their allies alive in dungeons, slowly eating them, managing their resources wisely. The Master was different, older, more powerful. He was believed to be 6,000 years old. Originally belonged to a tribe of cannibals that worshipped vampires as gods. At some point he proved himself and was turned into a vampire. These older vampires were the Turak-han. As neanderthals were to humans Tural-han were to vampires, savage, a breed apart. The Master adapted somewhat, even joining the Concillium Mortuum. But his instincts were total annihilation, the end of all life. Thus the vampire civil war. Giles feared what could happed if these vampire groups fought. They might destroy each other, but innocent people would get caught in the crossfire. The council at least didn't want the end of the world. Should they ally? These vampires were powerful, perhaps too dangerous to be left alive. But would that matter if the Master brought about the end of the world? As Giles considered the dire possibilities he decided to sieze what happiness he could. Giles asked Jenny Calendar to marry him. She accepted and they agreed to spend the rest of their lives together.
