Chapter 259

Kate Lockley thought about the shooting at the Warner place. Those bastards had raped several women, tried to murder three people that night. Since Kate's team stopped this a large number of former Phi Betta Kappas sufferred public scandal and/or financial ruin. Kate believed she had made this world a better place. But her team of zombie cops had murdered them, without trial or letting them defend themselves. Maybe raising the dead to do her bidding hadn't been such a hot idea after all. No plan was foolproof. But she had her father back, Kate couldn't lose him again. Trevor Lockley had never been good with emotions, but as a zombie he seemed even more detatched. Kate didn't blame her father for her troubles connecting with people, but his raising her had been an influence. Years ago she'd gotten pregnant, she couldn't raise the child alone, the father wanted nothing to do with it. So Kate Lockley found a fellow cop who couldn't concieve a child with his wife and they adopted the boy. Kate had craved her father's approval her entire life. Even now she wanted to believe her father approved of her. But she could never be certain.
