Joyce waited for Buffy to return home this Friday night. Her maternal instinct told Joyce that Buffy and Dawn were hiding something. Maybe this something had to do with Xander, Joyce noticed some tension between Xander and Buffy. Since Dawn had recently broken up with teven, maybe the sisters were bonding over their boyfriend problem. Joyce hoped this was just about a break-up. Joyce feared that Buffy could get pregnant in highschool like Joyce had. As much as Joyce loved her daughters, she didn't want them to repeat her mistakes. When Selena dissapeared, Joyce wondered if the cat found herself a boyfriend, which Joyce still hadn't done in Sunnydale. Buffy had always been responsible, more than most kids her aga. Joyce wanted to trust her, but she kept washing blood out of Buffy's clothes, and Buffy stayed out beyond midnight even on school nights. What exactly was going on?
