Chapter 266
Anne talked to her husband Ricky about what Charles Gunn had said. They weren't naive, they some of these kids had made mistakes, the police were a regular sight at the shelter. But a cop returning from the dead, only to shoot an unarmed teenager, what were they to do? Anne and Ricky told the kids to watch their backs, keep their noses clean. They spoke to Denver, Syed Ali, who were kind of the un-official chaplains for the shelter. They organized food drives and tried to provide spiritual comfort for the kids. Ben Wilkinson helped immunize the teens from certain diseases, he did this pro-bono. These five knew it could be dangerous, but they refused to abandon the kids. They made a vow that night never to turn their back on those kids in need.
