Chapter 268
On Friday Febuary 8th Buffy knew what she had to do. She'd put it off for too long already. She had to break up with Xander. There was less than one week until Valentine's day, she couldn't lead him on only to have him buy her some gift before breaking hi heart. Things were bad between them, not just because of her growing attraction to Angel. Jenny Calendar still hadn't found the spell to restore Jessie's soul, it was likely lost forever. Which meant that Buffy's job was to kill Xander's friend. This made Buffy, and Xander, wonder what Buffy would do if Xander or Willow was turned. Perhaps partly because of this Xander had been spending more time with Willow, comforting her after Sheila Rosenberg's death. Although Willow was gay Xander would always have a piece of her heart that noone else could touch and vice-versa. Buffy went to him after school.
Buffy: We need to talk.
Xander: This sounds bad.
Buffy: We were friends before we dated. Things were good then, dating has complicated things, and I never want to lose you completely.
Xander: Are you breaking up with me?
Buffy: Yes. I'm sorry.
Xander: I guess I kind of saw it coming. Still sucks though.
Buffy: I don't want to hurt you. You deserve better than this, but the longer we stay together the worse it'll hurt.
Xander: Well then I hate to think what it would feel like a month from now. Sorry if I sound ungrateful.
Buffy: I deserve that. I never wanted to hurt you, not for anything.
Xander: Well I've got at least a weekend of misery to look forward too. See you Monday. Take care.
Buffy: You too.
