Thanks for the reviews guys I really appreciate you taking the time to write one.

Hey guys this is confirmation that this story is not dead. I am really sorry that I've been away for so long but I really wanted to focus on The Return of the Betrayed Guardian.

Here's chapter 15 I hope you enjoy.

In conversations:

'- Translation of Poké Speech – No human unless otherwise stated can understand it. Ash can get the gist of what his Pokémon are saying due to his close bond with them.

"- Human speech

Disclaimer: I don't own Pokémon.

Ash and Salem woke up early the next day, their excitement at winning their next badge making it impossible for them to sleep. They both went to he dining hall and decided to go with just a bowl of cereal, they quickly scoffed their breakfast and left the ship headed for the gym. Whey they got there Ash and Salem walked inside the gym and found that the gym was pitch black so they cautiously stepped forward.

"Who are you and what is your business here?" a voice boomed startling both Ash and Salem.

"I'm Ash Ketchum."

"And I'm Salem Ashni."

"And we're here to challenge for the Knuckle Badge." they both said.

The lights suddenly switched on blinding Ash and Salem. When they could see again they saw a man turn around and walk towards the duo.

"Did you say Ketchum?" the man asked.

"Yeah and let me guess Norman told you about me."

"Yes he told me about you as did Roxanne."

"Have you heard of me?" Salem asked.

"Of course, anyone who can use electric types to beat Roxanne is worth talking about. So who's going first?"

Ash and Salem looked at each other.

"How about we flip a coin and the winner goes first?" Ash suggested.

"Sounds good to me." Salem said.

"Heads or tails?" Ash said.

"Tails."

Ash flipped the coin and it clattered down on the floor. They both looked at it and Salem let out a cheer as Ash silently swore.

"Fine you get to go first. Good luck Salem."

Salem and Brawly took their places and started their battle which was a hard fought battle that eventually ended up with Jolteon taking down Brawly's Machoke. They returned their Pokémon and met in the centre of the battlefield.

"Congratulations Salem here is the Knuckle Badge."

She happily took the offered badge and nodded, she then walked to the sidelines where Ash was sat.

"Good job Salem."

"Thanks Ash."

"Ash it's time for our match!" Brawly yelled.

Brawly had now returned to his position in the trainer box.

Ash got up and took Salem's place on the battlefield leaving Eevee and Ralts with her.

The referee seeing both Ash and Brawly were ready went back to his place at the sidelines.

"This battle is a between Ash Ketchum and Brawly the Dewford Town gym leader. It will be a three vs three battle where only the challenger can switch Pokémon."

Ash smirked as he stood opposite Brawly, they both took a poke ball and threw it.

"Medicham you're up."

"Zangoose to the battlefield."

Both Pokémon appeared on the field. Zangoose had a confident smirk on his face and his posture oozed confidence. Medicham on the other hand was stood there shocked that someone would send out a normal type against her. To be honest she found it almost insulting.

Ash's choice made Brawly raise an eyebrow, he was starting to think that Roxanne and Norman may have been a bit generous in the praise he had for this kid. He saw Medicham look back at him and could feel the rage radiating from her.

On the sidelines Salem watched on nervously, as even she was unsure about Ash's decision in using Zangoose. Despite knowing him for a while she was doubting whether Zangoose could stand up to the powerful looking Medicham. What surprised her more was that considering how powerful Raichu, Bayleaf and Wartortle why he hadn't started with one of them.

"Ash are you sure you want to use Zangoose?" Brawly asked.

"Yep, trust me when I say it takes more than type advantage to win a match."

Zangoose nodded and Brawly sighed.

"Fine but don't say I didn't give you the chance. Medicham Hi Jump Kick."

"Dodge with Quick Attack then hit her with Crush Claw."

Medicham ran forward and her right leg glowed white. When she was near Zangoose she leapt into the air aiming a kick at Zangoose. The mongoose stood still until the last moment when in a flash of white he shot off making Medicham slam her leg into the rock hard battlefield. She let out a pained cry and sat there rubbing her leg which was now throbbing in pain. Zangoose seeing a clear opportunity quickly ran forward and raked his claws which were glowing blueish-white across her back creating a trio of gashes that went from her shoulder blades to the base of her spine. Medicham and grit her teeth to stop herself from screaming at the pain coming from her back. She could feel the blood seeping from the wounds and when she looked back she could see her blood dripping on to the battlefield making a puddle of red on the ground.

Brawly was wide eyed as he looked at the blood trickling down Medicham's back.

"I'm disappointed Brawly." Ash said.

This made Brawly turn his attention to Ash who was looking at him disappointedly.

"You underestimated me and made an amateur mistake because of that."

Brawly wanted to retort but he couldn't think of what to say. After a moments thought he realised that Ash was right. He had made a stupid mistake which had now caused Medicham a lot of pain. He looked at Medicham again and saw that she had managed to push herself to her feet and stand in front of him again taking up a combat stance.

"You should call her back now."

Brawly looked at Medicham who met his gaze with a determined look.

"Medicham wants to keep going so I'll do as she wants. So use Close Combat."

"Match it with your Close Combat."

Both Medicham and Zangoose ran at each other and started throwing a barrage of punches and kicks at one another. At first they were easily blocking and dodging but gradually as tiredness took its toll they got sloppy and it ended with Zangoose kicking Medicham's injured leg. She quickly retaliated with an uppercut and both Pokémon fell back. As he looked at Zangoose and Medicham Ash was pleased with the outcome, Medicham looked exhausted and due to Zangoose's last hit she was struggling to stand. Ash was pretty sure that had Medicham been at full strength she would have given Zangoose a much tougher challenge.

"Drain Punch."

"Dig then Poison Jab."

Medicham ran forward and her fist was glowing white, she threw her fist forward but hit thin air as Zangoose had dug underground. Medicham looked around frantically trying to guess where Zangoose would appear. She got her answer soon as the ground shook and caused her to stumble forward. Before she could recover Zangoose burst out of the ground behind her and slammed his fist which was glowing purple into her back. This time Medicham screamed in agony at the searing pain caused by the poison which was now seeping straight into her open wounds. The immense pain was too much for her to handle and she slumped forward unconscious.

"Medicham is unable to battle. Choose your next Pokémon."

Brawly took Medicham's Pokéball and returned her apologising for what he had done. He then took a new Pokéball off his belt and threw it.

"Machamp it's your turn."

Ash took another Pokéball off his belt. Even though he knew Zangoose could go on he would it was obvious that he would struggle to beat a Machamp. So it made more sense to save Zangoose for later if he needed him.

"Zangoose return. Bayleaf to the battlefield."

Zangoose looked annoyed to be switched out but allowed Ash to return him. Bayleaf then came out and was about to tackle Ash until she realised where they were and looked straight at Machamp.

"Lets kick things off with Bullet Seed."

"Stop them with Close Combat."

Bayleaf opened her mouth and fired a barrage of bullet like seeds at Machamp who merely smirked and started aiming punches at the seeds. His four arms moved swiftly and were almost a blur as they easily destroyed any of the seeds that got near him. The sight shocking both Ash and Bayleaf who hadn't seen someone stop the attack so easily.

"Razor Leaf."

"Charge through the leaves and use Close Combat."

Bayleaf release a horde of leaves and shot them at Machamp. The fighting type ran straight at them and the leaves appeared to have no effect on him. It almost looked as if the leaves were just bouncing off of him. After getting through the leaves Machamp rained a barrage of punches and kicks on Bayleaf. Every hit made Bayleaf cry out in pain as it felt like she was being hit by solid steel. The pummelling stopped when Machamp slammed his fist into Bayleaf's face sending her crashing back to Ash. She managed to get to her feet but it was taking a lot of willpower for her to stay standing.

"Grab him with Vine Whip and throw him."

Bayleaf nodded and shot out two vines which wrapped around Machamp's upper arms. She used all of her strength to try and throw him but she found that no matter how hard she tried she couldn't move Machamp. The fighting type had dug his feet into the ground making it impossible for her to move him. Machamp then used his free arms to grab the vines in a painfully tight hold and began swinging her around. When he eventually let go Bayleaf went skidding along the ground and crashed into the wall.

Ash couldn't believe that Bayleaf was being thrown around like a rag doll. Her beating had gotten so bad that he had her Pokéball ready as he knew that she take much more of this and he didn't want her to get unnecessarily hurt. Bayleaf looked at Ash and saw the Pokéball in his hand and let out a low growl. She didn't want to lose and let Ash down, she then felt a rush of power and got back to her feet. Bayleaf then shone white making everyone shield their eyes from the intense light and when the light died down a Meganium now stood on the battlefield. Ash looked proudly at Meganium, she had been trying to evolve for so long and now she had finally managed to do it.

"Way to go Meganium. I'm so proud of you."

'Thanks Ash.'

"Ok, let's try this again go for Razor Leaf."

"Charge through again and use Focus Punch."

Meganium released a horde of leaves and sent them straight at Machamp. The fighting type wasn't concerned about the razor sharp leaves headed his way so he charged straight at Meganium. When the leaves hit Machamp he let out a low growl as the leaves created several cuts that littered his body. The attack had made Machamp lose his focus and the Focus Punch failed. He fell back to Brawly holding his lower right arm which had taken the worst hit from the Razor Leaf and was now badly bleeding.

"Use Vine Whip and throw him through the roof."

Meganium quickly sent out four vines which wrapped around Machamp's arms again, this time ensuring his lower two arms as well. Brawly didn't seem to mind what was happening as he expected similar results to last time. He was shocked to see that this time Machamp was easily picked up and swung around the room. After a while Meganium finally threw Machamp through the roof which created a huge hole. The hole in the roof was widened when he fell back down and slammed into the battlefield.

"Use Synthesis and when he gets up grab hold of all four of his arms with Vine Whip"

Thanks to the massive hole in the ceiling sunlight shone down on Meganium who was glowing green. This sunlight powered up her Synthesis and she could feel her wounds healing as her strength returned. She stopped healing when she heard Machamp groan and get back to his feet. Before Machamp could gather his senses Meganium shot four at the fighting type. The vines wrapped around all of his arms again and she lifted him into the air.

"Solarbeam."

"Get out of there!" Brawly yelled desperately.

The petals around Meganium's neck glowed green and a green orb formed in her mouth. Meanwhile Machamp struggled desperately against the vines but having all four of his arms tied up made it incredibly hard for him to just move let alone free himself. As he struggled Machamp looked at Meganium and saw the attack growing in power. He fought even harder against his restraints but it was futile as the grip was just too strong. All he could do was watch as Meganium fired a powerful green beam from the orb straight at him. When the Solarbeam hit Machamp, Meganium felt him go limp in her vines. She released her grip on him and he fell to the ground unconscious.

"Machamp is unable to battle. Choose your final Pokémon."

Brawly growled in annoyance as he returned Machamp. He finally realised that Norman hadn't been exaggerating when he had been telling him about Ash's skill. If anything he hadn't been complimentary enough about Ash's abilities. Brawly shook his head and cursed himself internally for not heeding Norman's words. Brawly sighed as he took his final Pokéball off of his belt. He looked at the ball that contained his strongest Pokémon and knew that it although he was powerful it would be nigh on impossible for him to win now.

"Hariyama lets win this."

"Meganium it's time for a rest."

The grass type reluctantly nodded and allowed Ash to return her. Ash placed her Pokéball back on his belt and now wondered who he should use. Raichu and Wartortle would be far less effective due to the intense sunlight shining through the roof so they were not a viable choice. It was times like this that Ash wished he had taught Raichu and Wartortle Rain Dance. He went through the rest of his team. Meowth and Treecko weren't ready yet, Eevee and Ralts were just kids, Crobat is not exactly on his side right now and Ash didn't want to risk Noctowl yet as he wasn't sure whether she had fully recovered from her wounds. That left Snorlax and Sableye and Ash felt using the later would be incredibly cheap as Sableye would probably be immune to any attack Hariyama knew.

"Snorlax to the battlefield."

Brawly was again surprised at another normal type but he had made the mistake of underestimating Ash once and it wouldn't happen again.

"Close Combat."

"Protect."

Hariyama ran at Snorlax and began launching a barrage of punches and the occasional kick at Snorlax but all he was hitting was a barrier that was protecting Snorlax. The shield stayed strong despite the countless attacks hitting it. Hariyama quickly realised that his attack was futile so he stopped the attack as he didn't want to tire himself out needlessly.

"Now counter attack with Ice Punch."

Brawly smirked which made Ash raise an eyebrow and he wondered why Brawly seemed so pleased. He got his answer when Snorlax hit Hariyama with his ice encased fist and both trainer and Pokémon were amazed to see that the attack did almost nothing. Ash immediately knew that Hariyama's ability had to be Thick Fat, that's the only way that he could make Snorlax's Ice Punch so weak.

"Vital Throw."

Before Ash could give a command Hariyama quickly grabbed Snorlax and with surprising ease lifted him above his head. Hariyama used all of his strength it throw the massive Pokémon at the wall trashing another part of the gym. Snorlax got back up and rubbed his head but otherwise appeared fine.

"Charge at him and use Mega Punch."

"Prepare a Focus Punch."

Snorlax charged at Hariyama at an astounding speed for such a large Pokémon and his fist glowed white. Hariyama meanwhile stayed still and began focusing his power into his fist. As Snorlax got closer Hariyama threw his fist forward.

"Now jump and use Body Slam." Ash said with a smirk.

When he was just a few centimetres away from Hariyama Snorlax jumped over the fighting type which shocked Brawly and Hariyama. The jump meant that Snorlax dodged the Focus Punch and Hariyama stumbled forward due to the momentum from his attack. He looked up and saw Snorlax headed toward him like a rocket. Moments later Snorlax landed the Body Slam which crushed Hariyama beneath him. Snorlax got off of Hariyama and saw that his eyes were closed. Assuming that he'd won Snorlax grinned and walked back to Ash.

"Now's your chance use Close Combat."

Hariyama's eyes shot open and he quickly got to his feet charging at Snorlax who didn't have any chance to react before he was subjected to a relentless assault. With one final punch Hariyama sent Snorlax crashing into the wall again. Snorlax groaned as he staggered to his feet, both he and Hariyama were now breathing heavily showing that they were exhausted.0 Ash and Brawly could see their Pokémon didn't have much left so now it was do or die.

"Focus Punch."

"Mega Punch with your right fist and stop his attack with your left."

Both Pokémon charged at their opponent and their right fists were glowing white. When they got close to each other they threw their fist forward but were stopped by their opponents offhand. Snorlax appeared to have taken more damage but he held strong. It became a struggle for dominance but it seemed to going nowhere fast as several minutes passed and both Pokémon were stood locked in the middle of the battlefield neither loosening their grip or weakening their attacks.

"Hariyama get away and finish him with Hyper Beam."

"Do the same."

Both Pokémon still didn't back down and were now forming incredibly powerful orbs of energy in their mouths. The orbs were mere inches apart and only got closer as the orbs increased in size. Snorlax and Hariyama stayed locked in combat and fired their attacks points blank at each other making the Hyper Beams explode. The explosion created a shock wave that knocked everyone off their feet and the gym was shrouded in smoke and dust. It took several minutes for the dust settled and the smoke to clear. The room had been eerily silent since the clash of the Hyper Beams as everyone was worried about Snorlax and Hariyama who were slumped over unconscious. Ash and Brawly went to their Pokémon and found that luckily they had strong pulses.

"Both Snorlax and Hariyama are unable to battle. Ash Ketchum wins."

Ash and Brawly returned their Pokémon and met each other in the middle of the destroyed battlefield.

"That was great battle Ash. You more than deserve this Knuckle badge."

Brawly took a Knuckle badge out of his pocket and handed it to Ash. He smiled and then placed the badge in his case next to the Stone badge

"Thanks Brawly. I enjoyed our battle."

Ash suddenly felt a pair of arms wrap around him. He turned around in the embrace and returned Salem's hug.

"Way to go Ash. That was a great win."

"Thanks Salem."

The pair broke the hug and Meowth, Raichu and Pikachu took their usual places on their trainers shoulders. Ash looked at Eevee and Ralts who seemed happy enough riding on Luxray's back so he let them be and the group left the gym.

Ash and Salem walked into the Pokémon Centre and handed their Pokéballs to Nurse Joy. After quickly seeing to them she handed them back to Ash and Salem who walked over to the phones so they could both make a call. Ash dialled Professor Oak's number and it was quickly picked up.

"Hi Professor Oak."

"Hello Ash what can I do for you?"

"Well there's two things. First I was wondering how the amulet for Eevee was coming."

"I have good news. Things have gone well so far. Professor Rowan and Juniper have already extracted the parts of the Ice Rocks that were needed and are now in the process of fusing them together. So it shouldn't be much longer until it is ready."

"That's great news right Eevee."

Eevee happily yipped and leapt out of Ash's arms. She then started to jump around excitedly on the desk making both Ash and Professor Oak chuckle.

"What was the other thing you wanted?" Professor Oak asked.

"Well I wanna switch some Pokémon again."

"Ok who do you want me to get for you?"

"I need Charizard and in exchange I'm sending Noctowl, Snorlax and Zangoose back."

"Ok you place their Pokéballs in the machine and I'll go get Charizard."

Ash watched Professor Oak walk off and he placed the three Pokéballs in the transfer machine. A couple minutes later the Professor appeared on screen and placed a Pokéball in his transfer machine. Ash watched as his trio of Pokéballs vanish and one appeared in their place.

"Ok is that all Ash?"

"Yeah it is thanks. See ya Professor."

"Farewell."

They both hung up and Ash then had to start the very hard task of trying to calm down Eevee who was still jumping for joy. Once Eevee had finally calmed down. Ash turned around and saw that Salem was now sat waiting for him looking crestfallen. He was concerned for Salem as she was usually so cheery so seeing her like this was worrying. He went over to her and took a seat next to her. Salem didn't even acknowledge him and kept looking at the ground so Ash pulled her into a hug. The move surprised Salem however she quickly returned the embrace. She looked up at Ash and could see the concern in his eyes.

"Hey what's wrong?" Ash asked softly.

"It's nothing." she mumbled.

"Salem I know that something is wrong. I'm your friend you can tell me anything."

"I just had a row with my father. He has never approved of my choice of travelling. He wanted me to be a part of the family business but I didn't want to be a part of what he does. When I told him that I wanted to travel he pretty much disowned me. Yesterday he sent me a message for the first time in five years asking me call him. I did as he asked and well from that conversation it seems that nothing has changed in the last five years."

A few tears escaped from her eyes and she tightened her grip on Ash.

"Work always came first to him. I hardly ever saw him and when I did he was usually thinking about his work. He got so wrapped in him own work that he barely even noticed when mum died. I was the one looking after her in her last few months while my dad was working. I can remember the funeral, everyone cried at some point except him. He showed no emotion at all, at the time I thought it was because he was hiding it really well but when I asked him about it afterwards he just said she's dead and that there was no point crying about it."

Tears were now freely flowing down Salem's face.

"I-I h-hate him, I hate him s-s-so much." she whimpered.

Ash held on to Salem tightly and ran his hand up and down her back as she cried hoping it would calm her. Eventually her sobs died down and she wiped her eyes on the back of her glove.

"I'm sorry."

"Hey there is no reason for you to be sorry."

Ash broke the hug and then stood up. He looked down at Salem and held his hand out to her.

"Come on how about we go back to the beach and introduce everyone to Charizard?"

Salem smiled and after taking the offered hand she gasped in shock as she felt Ash pull her to her feet.

"Sure I'd like to meet your Charizard and I think Luxray would too."

Ash looked at Luxray and saw the intense look in his eyes, it was the same look Charizard had when he fought Gary's Blastoise. Ash had to admit he was interested in how a battle between Charizard and Luxray would go. They all got up and walked towards the exit from the Pokémon Centre.

They left the Pokémon Centre and went back to the beach. Ash sent out Charizard who was about to shoot a friendly Flamethrower at Ash but then he saw the two young Pokémon in his arms and stopped himself. Ralts and Eevee looked at the large dragon in front of them and even though they knew he was not going to hurt them they were scared. They flinched when they saw one of his hands headed towards them but then let out a sigh as they felt him rub their heads gently. To say Ash was surprised would be an understatement, he had never expected Charizard to display such a gentle side. Ash snapped out of his shock and sent out all of his Pokémon except Crobat and they joined Salem's Pokémon. Ash and Salem watched their Pokémon and lied down relaxing in the sun with Eevee and Ralts. After about half an hour Ash passed Ralts and Eevee to Salem and he walked over to Charizard.

"Charizard can you come with me? I need your help."

The dragon nodded and followed Ash who stopped in the clearing he had trained in the other day. Charizard looked at Ash wondering what could be so important.

"So I caught this Crobat the other day and he is very dangerous. The other day he attacked Salem and he could have seriously hurt her. So I was hoping that you would help me give him a reality check."

Charizard smirked and gave a quick nod which was a relief for Ash. He took Crobat's Pokéball off his belt and threw it which revealed the bat. Upon seeing the human that had captured him Crobat charged at Ash but to his surprise the human didn't even flinch. Moment's before Crobat was going to hit the human an orange arm shot out and its three clawed hand grabbed him digging painfully into his flesh. Crobat looked at the owner of the arm and saw a very pissed off dragon. Its eyes were burning with hatred and he was sure that the dragon would kill him if the human commanded him to.

Ash shook his head as he looked at Crobat. He knew that threatening him is no way to get Crobat on his side but he wasn't going to join him willingly. After a little thought Ash saw that there was only one option left.

"You know what Crobat you're more trouble than you're worth."

Ash placed the Pokéball he had caught Crobat in on the ground and stamped on it which smashed it to pieces. Crobat looked at the shattered remnants of his prison and was shocked that the human had freed him. He let out a pained cry as he felt the dragon's claws pierce his skin and his blood slowly trickled from the three punctures Ash stepped forward and glared at Crobat.

"Go to Dewford Cave and I swear to Arceus that if you come back I will not be held responsible for Charizard's actions."

Charizard looked at Ash and saw him nod. Charizard growled in disapproval and he reluctantly released his grip on Crobat. The bat flew in place and looked at Charizard who maintained his glare and growled menacingly. Crobat quickly flew away not wanting to mess with the dragon. Ash and Charizard watched him fly away and were glad to be rid of him

When Ash and Charizard got back to the beach Charizard started sparring and Ash sat down next to Salem and took Eevee and Ralts back. After a few hours Ash and Salem noticed it was getting late so they returned their Pokémon and walked back to the ship. They got on board saw that there was a lot of crew now working hard on deck. The Captain was also on deck instructing the crew. He turned around and spotted Ash and Salem so he walked over to them.

"Hello you two. I have good news, we've managed to get a full crew sooner than I expected which means that we can set off for Slateport tomorrow morning."

Massive smiles suddenly appeared on both trainers. The Captain smiled at the overjoyed look on their faces and then walked away as he heard some call his name leaving Ash and Salem.

"Hey laddie I heard you and the lass there beat Brawly." a voice said.

Ash and Salem looked to where the voice had come from and saw the old sailor from the other day.

"Yeah me and Salem won our Knuckle badges earlier. By the way what's your name?"

"I'm Dalamyr."

"It's been great meeting you Dalamyr." Ash said.

The sailor got up and shook both of the young trainers hands.

"Same to you laddie and you too lass."

Ash yawned and stretched out his arms.

"Well I think I'm gonna turn in early. So what are you gonna do Salem?"

"I think I'll do the same."

Salem was about to go to her cabin when she heard something, it was only faint but she was certain that it was music. She stopped in her tracks making Ash have to suddenly stop to prevent himself from crashing into her back. He looked at Salem wondering why she had stopped.

"Wait, is that music?"

Dalamyr chuckled.

"Yeah lass. The Captain managed to get a band and they're playing in the dining hall right now."

A huge grin appeared on Salem's face and her eyes lit up. She then grabbed hold of Ash's arm.

"Come on Ash let's go dancing."

"B-but I can't dance." Ash stuttered.

"Please come and dance with me Ash." Salem pleaded.

Ash tried resisting the look on her face but it was futile. He couldn't deny her when she had that look on her beautiful face. Ash paused for a moment as he realised what he'd just thought and blushed. Salem looked at Ash and wondered why a blush suddenly appeared on his handsome face. Salem's cheeks turned crimson as she registered what she'd thought. Both trainers were silent for a moment and then quickly shook away the thoughts. Ash met Salem's gaze and smiled.

"Ok I'll dance with you."

Salem smiled and led Ash towards the dining hall. Ash looked back and saw that Raichu was being led by Pikachu and Meowth, Eevee and Ralts were riding on Luxray's back .

I'm thinking about starting a friendly Pokémon speed run competition – I'm not talking about crazy runs where you complete the game in a couple of hours. That's right two hours check out a youtuber called Werster if you don't believe me. I mean normal runs between people to see who can finish a Pokémon game first for a bit of fun. I've completed Nuzlocke runs on every game and I wanted a new challenge. If anyone is interested send me a PM
