"You waited up for me again," he said, pressing his lips to her cheek.
She replied with a smile as she curled in the couch, one hand clutching his robe while the other brushed the hair from his face.
His eyes traveled to the growing bump in her stomach, eyes lighting up at the tightened fabric of her midsection. It used to be that he would run his fingers on the soft and firm skin, and he couldn't suppress the grin on his face while imagining something other than food inside.
"What?" she chuckled, curiosity lining her features.
"He's growing fast." He couldn't help the wonder in his eyes as he lifted her shirt and caressed the skin beneath. "We should name him!"
She raised an eyebrow. "How can you be sure he's just a boy?"
He kissed her stomach twice, letting his lips linger as he reveled in the heat from her body. Once upon a time he believed he could have everything he wanted, but even he didn't imagine it would be this good.
"Daddy knows."
"And if you're wrong?"
"I won't. I just know it. You're so hostile at me half the time because my son's spirit is leaking through you." He pulled down her shirt and rose from the couch, gently picking up his wife.
"You seem so sure," she whispered in his ear, arms wrapping around his neck. He laid her on the bed and watched her closely for a moment; unsure as to why she seemed worried.
"What's the matter?"
"Nothing. I just… Do you want a son so much that if it wasn't-"
His eyes widened in disbelief. "No! I know where you're going, Sakura-chan. And the answer is no. That child is mine - no, ours! I don't care if it's a boy or a girl!"
She fell silent, jade eyes searching. "But you won't love her less?"
"What kind of a stupid question is that? Wait.. are you saying we're having a girl?" he reached for her hands, unable to hide the excitement in his eyes. Their gazes locked, and in that moment her fears vanished as quickly as they came.
"We're having both, Naruto. We're having twins!"
"Twins?"
"Yes! A boy and a girl!"
"Wow… WOW! Sakura-chan!" He wrapped his arms around her and peppered her cheeks with kisses as a bubble threatened to burst inside his chest. "I'm sorry for making you worry, sweetheart."
She cupped his face with her hands, staring lovingly at his cerulean eyes. "I can't believe we're getting two… but now that I know I just can't imagine otherwise! I'm so excited!"
"Me too, Sakura-chan! I can't stop smiling now!" he caught her lips in a searing kiss, if only to let her know how happy he really is. This was so much better than when he found out he was going to be a father.
The room soon filled with their laughter as they lay in each other's arms, already exchanging name suggestions, or who's going to look like who. He came home after midnight and a few minutes ago was dead tired. Now he couldn't stop talking about his daughter and his son, still sleeping inside their mother's belly. Hopefully they didn't mind their parent's voices so much, for some reason they both just couldn't shut up.
A few hours later, the sun rose through the window and she finally fell asleep. He, on the other hand, was so wide awake he was sure he had just woken up. His hands couldn't get enough of that small bump as he gently stroked, smiling and feeling the rise and fall with her every breath.
There was definitely something other than food inside.
