Chapter 10: Worth it
Zoro had concluded that, being near the cook…was dangerous. Very dangerous. Maybe too dangerous.
He couldn't explain what had exactly happened back in the crows nest with Sanji, other than the fact that he had had the urge to kiss the blonde, to allow his lips to touch the other mans, and he didn't even know why, he just knew that he had gotten lost in those deep blue eyes the moment he had looked into them; it had pulled him in…and it had almost had him.
It was like a spell had been washed over him, that all thoughts and anger he had for the blonde before evaporated before being replaced by want and the urge and it would have happened if he hadn't mentioned the blonde's eyebrows quickly to stop himself and gotten painfully kicked away by the blonde, then he was sure that he would have kissed the blonde and then gotten kicked away anyway as well as receiving a disgusted look, fuck, he didn't want the blonde to look at him like that.
Not when he didn't even like the blonde like that, yeah sure, the blonde was attractive, but they were just Nakama. That's all they were. They couldn't be anything more, not when Zoro didn't think of him like that and because he knows that if the blonde had all his memories, he wouldn't even see Zoro like that.
Why did the thought of Sanji not liking him hurt?
Maybe that sea witch - not Nami, but the ghost one - had cursed Sanji to possess the ability to manipulate others with his eyes whilst taking the blondes memories away. But if so, why was no one else being manipulated by his eyes? Was it just him? Was it because he was hanging out with the blonde too much?
Zoro sighed, that seemed way too absurd, but he wanted to believe it was somewhat true and a possibility instead of him wanting it to happen, but because he was being manipulated by the blonde's eyes because of that ghost.
Yes, it was the ghost's doing. He was going to blame the ghost of his actions he had almost committed. Why did that still seem like a stupid reason?
He sighed once more, not noticing Franky's presence as he came wandering into the room - not so quietly.
"Yo bro! You're still up here?" Franky asked, looking at the swordsman, he was certain the man had went to the men's quarters.
"Yeah…" Zoro mumbled, not fully acknowledging the man as reasons - excuses - to his previous actions filled his mind to make some sense for himself.
"Something up bro?" Franky asked looking concerned at the swordsman's frowning face. Never had he seen Zoro look so deep in his thoughts before, it was just unusual.
"No." Zoro got up and excused himself, finally traveling to the men's quarters.
He didn't want to talk about it, or think about it, he decided that he just needed to sleep on it and forget about it.
Where as the other man continued to think about the moment that had almost happened in the crows nest between Zoro and him. Sanji stood at the other side of the ship, far from the crows nest where he had escaped as fast as he could to hide himself and calm his beating heart, smokey swirls escaping through the small gap between his lips. It was calming his nerves and slowly getting rid of the fluster feeling he had. What had nearly happened back there?
Zoro had caressed his hair and grazed his finger tips right over his cheek, his touch burning his skin. Sanji blushed, he could still feel the hotness and tingles Zoro's touch had given him, it remained there and he couldn't help but want to feel it again. He replayed the scene over in his mind. Had Zoro…was he going to….had he wanted to….kiss him?
The thought of Zoro kissing him, wasn't a bad thought at all and he felt quite disappointed that it hadn't happened, he kinda wished it had…so why didn't it happen? What had changed Zoro's mind? Maybe Zoro didn't actually like him, did he have someone else in his heart?
Wait, why did he want it to happen? Did he like Zoro? Was it possible for him to like someone like Zoro?
Well sure, since he met Zoro, he had been the kindest most caring member of the crew, as well as helpful and generous. It made his heart skip a beat thinking about the past few days he had spent with the swordsman, his laughter and his smile running through his mind like a movie reel
It - once again - made his chest swell with happiness and warm his heart at the thought of it all.
Oh god… maybe he really did like Zoro…
Yet, his heart ached as well, he couldn't help but think, was that actually Zoro? Had he fallen for the actual Zoro? Or was this a side to Zoro he had only seen because he had lost his memory? His previous self must have known another side to Zoro that he had yet to see, and probably wouldn't get to see…unless he got his memory back…which would ultimately mean his death, but he really wanted to know.
He was starting to want to know more and more about Zoro, and moments he had with the man over the years they all had known each other.
And it seemed worth dying for.
No, it was worth it.
Yet, he couldn't help but remember how mad Zoro had been for choosing memories over life…but Zoro obviously didn't know that at the end of the day, he was going to die with or without his memories. Wouldn't that make Zoro madder than then if he found out Sanji had known that he would die anyway and yet had given up on his memories like they were nothing? Even though they weren't if this was the end of him. If Zoro knew what he knew, Zoro would help him get his memories back, right? Zoro just didn't want him to die, that's why he wanted him to give up getting his memories despite the fact he had been helping in the first place.
He was certain he was going to get his memories back and hopefully, Luffy would tell them all that he would have died either way.
Then, they -especially Zoro- would understand.
He didn't want to leave them all just for them to all be mad at him.
